90% of my youth was wasted playing Streets of Rage 2 and Golden Axe II.

How I miss those days...

Did any of you ever do that hot swap technique with Altered Beast? I think it was done with Golden Axe, but I don't remember for sure. Anyway, you would put in Golden Axe and then how swap it with Altered Beast while the system was on and then, IIRC, reset the system. You would then have access to some sort of debug menu in Altered Beast where you could set what type creature you could transform into. Just use the dragon for every level and tear shit up. Good times.

Vidikron - there was a code to do that, no need to do the swap thing (which I was always afraid to do since it actually did (albeit rarely) fry a few people's consoles)

ah the days of genesis. i loved it, even though it lacked the mass appeal of the SNES.

streets of rage 2, road rash 1&2 (particularly 2), toejam and earl!, shining force 1 & 2! lost vikings! so many good games.

Yep, that's it in a nutshell. Adam Oates scoring off the faceoff using "the move". Ray Bourque scoring on a slapshot from the point 1 out of 10 times. I freaking loved that game. And I'm not even a Bruins fan.

I'd have to give the edge to NHL 94 due to the one-timers but otherwise I can't argue with 93 either. I still play NHL 94 on a regular basis, it is undoubtedly the best game of all time.

I remember playing pretty much all the Sonic games on the Genesis and Sega CD at my friends house back in '97, good times, I thought those games were the killer apps for the system.

And the 10 year anniversary for the Dreamcast isn't far off!

While I don't have many memories of the genesis, I do however have a large history with the Dreamcast. That is the 10 year I'll be celebrating the most.

I had a SNES. My friend had a Genesis. Whenever we hung out, we were usually outside doing stuff, but sometimes we were inside either playing Mario Kart or Sonic 2.

Then we got PCs and played Mechwarrior.

In the year 1997, at the age of four, I played my first video game ever. It was either Sonic the Hedgehog, or NHL '96 (Can't quite remember), on the Sega Genesis.

I can relate to Richard Mitchell's story. I had to be pulled kicking and screaming into the Sony fray. I couldn't forgive them for wiping the floor with the Saturn. Of course it died mostly due to Sega's own mistakes, but still, they killed it so bad. Anyway, now Sony is the least of the 3 evils.

The Genesis game me a reason to actually be excited to buy and play Madden NFL. Also I can't count how many hours I burned on Streets of Rage 2 (and listening to it's soundtrack).

Those were the days indeed.

Man I was raised on the genesis being a 90s baby and my god did I play Jurassic Park like a mother trucker when I was a kid.... and like you said you only wanted to play as the raptor because 1. He's a raptor and 2. No one wants to be stupid Dr. Grant with his tranquiliser darts///

Eh, you're only half right. Don't get me wrong, the velociraptor was number one, but there was something very satisfying about the Dr. Grant vs. T-Rex match-up. You felt like such a puny underdog that it meant a little bit more when you won.

Back when I believed in Santa Claus, I found the Genesis in the closet before Christmas. I asked my parents about it, and they told me that they have to buy empty boxes so that Santa knows what to bring.

Well, the one I remember most is Mercs. Top-down run-and-gunnery at its finest. Great soundtrack too. I used to be a ninja at that game. Beat Arcade mode without losing a life. Can't play it nearly as well nowadays.

And then there's the first time I played it. My brother and I got it as a Christmas present along with a load of games, the first one of which we played was Streets of Rage. I remember staying on the first screen, just beating on my brother's character, while he did the same to me. We did not understand at the time that not every game with 'Street' in the title was identical to Street Fighter.

Jeez, so many memories. The really weird noise that kicking the ball in "World Cup Italia '90" made, the oppressive difficulty of Hellfire, the sheer joy of Story of Thor (Beyond Oasis). Eternal Champions being not-quite-as-good as Street Fighter 2... this really genuinely terrible 2d fighter that I can't remember the name of where you played as giant monsters with only 2 attacks... the maddening music of Theme Park... breaking level 30 on Columns for the first time... convincing my dad that my 10-year old ass was definitely mature enough for Mortal Kombat 3... getting scared half to death by Zero Tolerance... the wildly varying quality levels of the "Mega Games" collections (2 was the best)... Alien Storm, the most disturbing scrolling 2d beat-em-up ever created... I can't count the hours I invested into my Mega Drive.

Good times.

My best Genesis memory was probably Comix Zone.

I also played a lot of Golden Axe.

I actually remember those ads.

Anyway, we sold our Genesis to get a SNES. Mario was king.
