If Pocket Gamer's sources are correct, we'll be seeing some shockingly low-priced downloadable titles coming to the PSP's next iteration, the PSP Go. Reportedly, games on the download-only handheld will be priced at "1, 2 and 5 Euros" per game (roughly 2, 4,and 10 dollars, depending on the exchange rate), apparently challenging Apple's App Store head-on. The piece unfortunately doesn't clarify if these will be existing UMD-based titles, PSN titles, or brand new stuff.
A few months back, rumors arose about the unveiling of an app store for the PSP Go at next week's Euro game convention, Gamescom. This report seems to corroborate the idea of an app store for the device and even posits that Sony is currently "sourcing iPhone developers to bring existing titles to PSN." We asked Sony for comment on the subject and will update this post when we hear more.
One thing's for sure: Sony has a whole mess of rumors on its hands and Gamescom would be a good place to put some of them to bed ... or bring them to fruition.

I still don't know why they didn't add a touch screen in the PSP Go. If they did it would make more people with older PSPs buy one, because rather than being less of what they already have, it would be something different. Also, a touch screen would have made apps more useful, much like the ones for touch screen smartphones.

its quite simple why they didnt add a touch screen. If you own an iphone you'd know that some of the games can be extremely annoying to play, with your hands covering most of the screen and very uncomfortable controls. Besides games (or apps) what would you really use it for? scrolling through the PSN store? is it really worth adding an extra $50+ just to add a touch screen? i personally dont think so.

I seriously doubt they will use the same store. Because that would mean it can be accessed via all PSPs and the 1000 model is missing things that the 2000 and 3000 have so some apps might not work there...

well this can go one of two ways. one - the app store and the cheap downloads will not be available on the other psp psn stores which will make me very angry or two - it will and will finally give me a reason to shell out money for something downloadable on my psp besides beats and final fantasy 7. at this point i just want more final fantasy games on the psn. whether its ps1 or whatever, i just need my final fantasy fix on the go that isn't tactics or crisis core

I really think we're seeing an evolution of a PSP Phone. I know they tried to pass a PS Phone once before through Sony Ericsson but I mean, c'mon. PSP Go is the size of an iPhone. It's getting an "App Store." It supports Skype (which the old PSP did as well but still). It's got games, media, wifi, etc etc. I mean christ, add a touch screen, a receiver and ear piece and maybe 3G and put that bitch on a service that doesn't suck (as if one existed) and tada! PSP Phone. Totally speculation but the more the PSP "evolves" the more it's looking like a phone.
Not complaining. Just saying.

...and why should this app store fail? What reason is there that this should or will fail? Granted this isn't a phone but Apples got one. Blackberry has one. Hell, I'm pretty sure Android has something of an App store as well. Is it because it doesn't have 3G so you can't download apps anywhere? Neither does the iPod Touch but IT has access to the App store. I'm not seeing your logic here for positioning the PSP App Store as a failure.

Why will it fail? Simple. The app stores you mentioned are all for what? Mobile phones. Key word is "PHONE". I wrote it in caps so Mr. face can read it without his pop bottle glasses. The convenience of the app store apple has created is the fact I can DL apps/games ANYWHERE one has cell coverage. Wifi Coverage not so much.
Unless the Go will start producing a place I can insert a SIM card into or register an ESN number with a carrier like Telus or Verizon I don't see this succeeding. The app stores RIM devices and android devices have are nowhere NEAR cutting as much of a profit as the apple app store. You know why? Cause ppl can install them easily themselves via Blackberry's app loader functionality which is part of their software suite which comes free with their phones. Andoid as well has ways of getting free open sourced software on the device without a problem. Apple however requires a bit more trickery and most users of apple iPhone and ipod touch devices (I myself included) are too lazy to use third party software injection methods that not only have a good chance of bricking the device but can cause your other functions on your device to start messing up. I had this happen a few times on my first generation iPhone.
Second, Apple's app store is focused on apple users, who most of which are not very tech savvy at all and just want to buy now, load and use in under a minute. I am not talking about ppl who post on sites like here and engadget, I am talking about the guy in the office who has to have the same devices as everyone else cause they want to be cool too but have no idea or real need for that kind of device and trust me there are. When I worked for T-Mobile tech support 90% of the ppl that called my department were so tech-daft that didn't need a PDA phone at all. Anyhow I am getting off point here.
Fact of the matter is I do believe that downloading games to the PSP will definitley work but as far as applications go I doubt it. The PSP has an analog stick and control pad. Both of which suck to use when browsing the web. How much better can that be when you are using an application? Like say a calculator? Or some other form that requires data entry. Oh wait that's right, the PSP Go lacks a keyboard, who has a keyboard in some form or another? Right, Blackberry phones, iPhones, Windows Mobile devices and Android devices do. Right.
The PSP Go is a gaming device. The people who use a PSP are gamers and the PSP lacks the versatile mutli-touch or keyboard/trackball/touchpad interface other devices have that have decent or mega successful app stores. If the Go had a touchscreen that would be different. Because then you open up the possibility of having a touch screen keyboard.
Although the PSP does not require you sign a service agreement for 2-3 years in order to acquire it for it's MSRP unlike it's cellular counterparts, I still don't believe the app store will fly unless the device produces an interface with more than 8 buttons (not including the gamepad or analog stick).
As far as Mr. Face's pregnancy comment goes, who I whole heartedly believe needs to lose about 300 lbs before he can impregnate anyone himself and lives under the absurd delusion that he will one day be able to Marry his cousin and have normal functioning children with, you should be more concerned about losing your virginity to a woman that isn't a family member than insulting strangers on a gaming blog because they say something negative about your favorite brand.

If by iTouch you mean the Ipod Touch and not the doll you use to describe to the school Councillor where the neighbor touched you.
The iPod touch has a rabid following due to the fact it has the word "iPod" in it which has been a force to be reckoned with sine the early 2000s. The PSP nowhere near has that kind of following unfortunately.
Second, Trolls have long, unnecessary and childish usernames such as yours Thirdly I don't need to "paste anything" from any other source as I happen to have a mind of my own as well as opinion unlike mindless fanboys. Trolls also start insulting strangers in the comments like yourself. I don't spew insults unless they are called for which in your case, they were.
@Chromekeeper You're right, my response was too long but I was accused of not making a point which I didn't initially due to the the results that followed which was my (thorough) response to amanteduck.
As for Mr. Face I suggest any further comments to yourself unless it's an intelligent response written beyond your pitiful middle school English level along with matching maturity level. Thanks.

the ipod touch is not symbolic of the ipod brand, in fact the ipod touch is not a very popular ipod. like it or not, the psp is a very popular media player and a tremendously popular game system and for good reason, the device is feature packed
whereas the iphone literally costs thousands of dollars to use and its only value proposition here is simplistic gaming + mobile phone and the ipod touch is not a mobile phone so it's just simplistic gaming and it doesn't have things the iphone has such as a camera so it can not play as many apps

@coyo t
I will have to disagree with you on a note that we both probably live in places where the polar opposite happens. Hear me out. I know in the USA UMD movies have not been discontinued as some friends of mine south of the border reported. Here UMD's have been gone for over 2 years now and are only found in bargain bins with 5 year old content. I also never see someone watching a movie on a PSP, I myself included. In Canada at least the number of ppl I see with an ipod touch (which is still iconic if you want to believe it or not, at least here in Toronto) dwarfs the amount of people I see with PSPs unfortunately which is where I get my perspective from. As well as with my friends (from the US and Canada) the ratio of PSP to Iphone/iPod Touch is about 1:6. I put the two together because there is a LOT of ppl here with one or the other. Again, i am assembling my opinion here based on what I see. Where you may be located is different but here the PSP market is very slim. I am not saying the PSP is crap because I own one and like it but as far as I am concerned the iphone/ipod touch app store sales speak for themselves. I like the media functions of the PSP however, using the current model as media player is way too bulky and one thing I am concerned about is how much room there is for my hands on the GO. The Apple device has a huge adoption rate and the PSP can't compete with that. Also the games sold on the Apple platform are about 99% casual which may seem ridiculous but they have the money to burn.
I have owned 2 generations of the iPhone and in total has not cost me a thousand bucks in over 2 years. Maybe 400 at most. I do not add data costs and cell cost because I would use those features whether I had an iphone or not. I can't really see your argument there. One of the reason apple has it's users hooked is itunes because ppl have spent a lot of time configuring that software and their playlists and as humans, we are naturally lazy and the thought of having to do that again with another device, unless disgusted by your apple device, would be an easy choice not to switch.
Thank you for making a well though intelligent point BTW ;-) sorry for the essay like response lol.

Oh also Coyo, seems there is a rumor floating around that the next ipod touch will in fact have a camera which I believe because it would be silly of apple to allow video recording in their iphones now and not in their iPods. Apple isn't stupid, otherwise they wouldn't have the number one selling portable media player for nearly a decade. Second, unless the Skype app on the Go has been revamped heavily and doesn't sound as crappy as Chris Grant demoed on the Podcast I don't see it as a feasible way to make calls either.

The ipod brand is popular indeed, however there are actually many media players that are more popular than many ipods. For example the psp is the second most popular media player (seriously) and there are in fact a lot more psps in use than there are ipodtouchs. If you have a hard time understanding Apple's use of the term ipod see shuffle, nano, classic and all the prior variants. they are in no way equals in the way a psp is to a psp.
As for a camera in the next touch, the iphone took pictures before it could handle video and during that time no camera on the ipodtouch, so yes they may continue to intentionally stunt the ipodtouch in hopes of getting people to pay for play, also known as move up to their iphone (which costs thousands to use though you do not like to include usage so lets use the saying it costs tens of hundreds of dollars).
As for that pedestal you put apple on, I would not. They are not the end all or be all of anything beyond marketing themselves (and even that is waning for them).

but saying that the psp's app store will purely because your cant download anywhere is just plain retarded.
many of my friends have an ipod touch, they seem to have no problem waiting to get home to add a new app, why would the psp be any different?
some of friends and professors who have an iphone never feel the need to spontaneously download an app. so stop being a douche/troll and let the psp app store at least launch before declaring it a failure.
and if this was said already im sorry my glasses havent arrived yet and all the damn words this troll wrote made me dizzy
