The results of the poll dont matter, nothing we say changes the fact that sony decides when it will release the slim and for how much. There's no reason for them to make this system any cheaper than the current models and every keeps thinking that the minute it arrives it'll signal a price drop.

IT DOESNT.

The slim is just another revision in the life of a product just like the PSone or the PStwo, there's no reason for this to be over blown into some crazy milestone of an event that people will just be disappointed with when it doesnt set the world on fire.

i hope it's real and i hope it's announced at gamecom because i'm tired of all the speculation and i'd like to see more people with PS3s. i'd also like for it to be true so more people will be able to afford a PS3 and have one with full backwards compatibilty.

Yea.
Most of my friends that are holding off on buying a ps3 are doing so either because of backwards compatibility and/or the price.

However, if there was a system that needed a whole new model and re-branding, it's the 360. I know more people holding off from buying a 360 because they're still scared of it spontaneously combusting on the shelf.

Great choices we've had this generation, huh?

200$ ? hey psp go costs 50$ then that. its not going to happen. kind of think of it...ps3 will cost 50$ more if sold at 300$. hmm.

I totally agree. If the slim does come out It will not cost any less than $400. It will probably lower the cost of production, wich would make it easier for sony to drop the price in the future, but it wont be cheap right away.

I think its true. But not the price rumor. i wont get mad if they announce a price cut or even ps3 slim with 299 price tag IF they give backwards compatibility... even if its only for some games

I guess you want to keep your cake and eat it too. There is no way in hell they will launch a $299 model with backwards compatibility. Not now and not ever. This is one of the few times where us early adopters didn't get shafted by additional features to less expensive models. Besides, Sony will start selling PS2 classics on PSN before they release a software solution to BC especially with PS2's being so cheap and owners wanting features like cross game chat and invite, custom soundtracks and Home integration for trophies among other requested features.

"Sony will start selling PS2 classics on PSN before they release a software solution to BC"

If they do that though it would mean they have a software BC solution. I don't think we will see a PS2 Classics section without also seeing some form of software PS2 BC.

@johnnynumber5 if you had been a true early adopter, you would have BC. The first few models did have it.

my 60gb ps3 died a couple of days ago, i'm thinking of buying a slim (as soon as it is released) for 300€, rather than paying up to 200€ and waiting far too long for repair of my old one. i hope some software backwards compatibility will be present, i still have couple of ps2 games to play

I haven't heard about the rumored backwards compatibility but to be honest, I mostly just glance at news concerning the PS3 Slim nowadays. If it has backwards compatibility (and is real, of course), I'm glad I've held off on getting one until a price drop. That's a system seller for me as my PS2 is on life support.

Bam, what a deal.

You can't swap hard drives from one PS3 to another and keep the data. You can't install a back-up file made on one PS3 onto another. You can copy non-protected saves (and certain other files) to an external storage device and put them on a new system. You can also re-download games, demos, and DLC to up to 5 different PS3s. In short, your plan won't work as is.

To whoever came up with the price point of $199.99 - what were you smoking and where I can get some? :) That's hillarious - non-realistic too. In any event, I think a price drop of $100.00 across all SKU's would be a good thing to help increase the movement of PS3's. Then again, people could....gasp....what a concept!.....actually try saving for a change to be able to afford it. I know its a new concept for many people, but try putting $50.00 away every pay cheque and you'll be able to afford a PS3 soon.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I don't use mine much apart from Blu rays & tv recording but the shiny polycarb finish of the current model is so easily scratched and is annoying to keep free from fingerprints. I sold my 80gb last week in anticipation of the cut and I'm hopeing for a matt finish to replace it.

One thing the polls need is an option for people that already own the PS3. I think it's great that we may see a slimmer PS3 at a reduced price, but I'm not interested in one because I already own one.

Its real. It is SOP with Sony. PS2 Slim. PSP 2000/3000/Go.

Slim plus Price cut on Phat for Holiday 2009 plus Spring 2010 lineup equals BIG jump in console sales for the next 6 months.

and the Playstation/PS1 slimline. I'm sure it'll happen. Makes sense for Sony to drop the price on the 'fat' PS3s and discontinue them then (eventually) lower the slim PS3s to match this price..... or not.

Great poll!!
