I'm not sure if cloud gaming will be economically viable for a while yet, but I do know that digital distribution will cause brick and mortar shops more pain as they go. So maybe he's right that investing in game stores is not such a hot idea at the moment.

As long as they keep churning out premium editions with extra crap, B&M won't die. I'm sure kids will line up at midnight for the release of Modern Warfare 5 to get their artbooks, soundtracks, real land warrior headsets, and a street legal APC, along with the MW5 download code.

Yeah for the time being, but as more and more people start to realize that they don't NEED to stand outside a store for 5 hours or even leave their home and get it immediately, that trend could change.

"We have no intentions to stop making video games for the current consoles ... that would be nuts."

Damn that's too bad.

Anyone else think Mr. Dyack could stand to lose a few pounds? Looks like he's been dealing with Too Human's reception by diving into the ice cream a bit too much.

In any event, he looks a lot bigger in that picture then other ones in recent memory.

I think cloud computing may work in the end. Although if all think think about is money (ala. RIAA), then they are going to ruin it before it gets off the ground. They need people like the ones who make Ubuntu (Or other free Linux Distros). Or maybe the people who created the internet (Al Gore).

@Wicker Man-Yep. I dropped the cash for SF4 (I should have waited), but I'm just getting ready to buy Bioshock this week, then Uncharted, and these are just a couple of great games I've been missing. . However, I own a ton of PSN games, because I don't mind dropping $10-$20 once a week.

After Too Human, is there a market for SK games?

Still, we need more devs pushing for the next gen. This generation has been a dissapointment compared to the last.

Speak for yourself. The only way I can see it being a disappointment is if you're in love with japanese games, as they've fallen this gen.

How is it not a disapointment? We've got the 360, arguably one of the least reliable consoles ever designed. Hardcore Nintendo fans are being screwed over every day by Nintendo and the Wii, Sony fans are wondering where the price cut is and how the Microsoft upstart is crushing the former market leader, and both the 360 and Wii have been essentially maxed out. Natal? It's a joke. And the primary games this gen (with a few notable exceptions) are shooters or sequels.

I already own my ps3, and am not worried about a price cut. I for one am loving this generation. It's just getting to the point where more good games are coming out than I can afford, and this is a good thing. Actually, I'd rather see the price of games come down than the console.

Agrees with @Neohumpty. Getting awfully tired of $60 games. Very few are actually worth that price. At least more people tend to flip and sell back games.

Personally I don't think RROD ever did much too 360 fans other then made them go outside once a year.

@Robo,

I agree with you 100%. I find myself waiting months now for price drops or sales. I loved playing SF4 but did not pick it up until it was 19.99 the other week. I just do not have that kind of money anymore. Only the best of the best can get me to drop $60 bucks at launch. Batman may be that one.

Cloud computing doesn't make much sense with the ISP industry wanting to move to a model where you pay for the amount of bandwidth you use. If gaming went cloud, our monthly internet bills would skyrocket.

As long as the market is there.

Well with your 10 year dev cycle, theres time for, what, 1 more sub par video game from you guys?

I guess Dyack didn't notice that the "dumb client" system of gaming died at E3 this year when Sony and MS announced their motion input systems. See the "dumb client" idea is that you don't really need any compute power in your house, all you need is a USB jack so you can plug-in a d-pad and the USB signals are transmitted over the internet and interpreted by the game running "in the cloud".

But now all the consoles have fancy input systems which use image recognition and that means you need hardware in your house again, because sending 60fps of video upwards over the internet for recognition is not possibly with many people having such slow upload rates.

Look at Natal, if what we are told is correct, it has two video cameras plus an infrared camera's worth of data to upload and recognize.

Ah, there I go, I've honestly given this guy more attention than he deserves. He just likes the idea of OnLive because it'll make his "one console future" diatribe correct.

Hey Denis, with art such a big part of the cost of a game now and games being so expensive they become a make-or-break for companies, do you still believe a company shouldn't contract out for art?

instead of saying they should "keep doing console-based games", what they should do is "keep doing GOOD console-based games". thanks.

Well that settles it everyone. No Half Life Episode 3. It looks like Dycak ate Newell. :(
As a side note to prevent myself being devoured too, I did like Too Human but it needs a lot of work if there will ever be a sequel.

I can't even get 100% on the first too human. I want to, I just cant bring myself to play it again. That game was good, and at the same time, disturbingly awful.

I'm in the middle of playing Too Human right now wondering if there will be a Too Human 2. The story is out there...but if it truely is a trilogy they're not going to give you all the information the first time around. It's taken some time to get used to but, but the combat is passable. There is no doubt that the valkyrie death scene is annoying as all heck. Skip button next time please.

But they do have an interesting world, and like any sequal they have a chance to right their wrongs. So I am looking forward to what they can come up with for Too Human 2. Before Too Human I pretty much trusted any game they made, so I am willing to give them a second chance.
