Omg, why...do we need Legos for Rock Band? This is the most pointless thing ever. We should have a lego DLC pack for LBP instead. At least it makes sense.

Do we need a new Madden every year? Do we need another COD game every year? It should just be DLC.

Yeah, that's right, I said it. And LRB is rated E - RB and RB2 are T. Lego Rock Band is for a whole different audience. It's not for regular RB fans. I for one am looking forward to it, because I've become a bit bored with the "story" mode of Rock Band. At least LRB has one. And if Band Hero has something similar to Guitar Hero 5's game modes, I'll probably pick it up too.

At least with the exporting features there's a reason to buy the older games after the new ones come out. It's a lot easier to export songs than it is rosters or maps.

I'm pretty sure it's the band unity thing. Where each member is either in sync or doing better/worse than the others.

Actually it doesnt seem to be, it seems more like they change the icon when all the band members are in sync and then split them up when someone falls too far out of the group.

Harmonix should be careful, I think they're getting a little too close to the kind of over-saturation that has made the Guitar Hero series just.. borderline dreadful.
And for those of you who are trying to compare Harmonix to Activision, the difference between them announcing spin-offs is that Rock Band has never disappointed before, so of course we'll all try to be optimistic. Over the course of just ONE YEAR, Activision has managed to churn out:
Guitar Hero: Aerosmith
Guitar Hero: World Tour
Guitar Hero 5
Guitar Hero: Metallica
Guitar Hero: Van Halen
Guitar Hero Smash HIts
Guitar Hero: On Tour
Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades
Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits
Guitar Hero III Backstage Pass
Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile
Guitar Hero 5 Mobile
Guitar Hero Arcade
and not to mention Band Hero and DJ Hero

Meanwhile, in that same frame of time, Harmonix has produced:

Rock Band 2
Rock Band Unplugged
The Beatles: Rock Band
Lego Rock Band
and I'll even count that Rock Band AC/DC Expansion

That's it.

Now which company sounds like it cares about quality and which one seems more concerned with quantity? Yeah..
Besides that, it's HARMONIX. They are amazing at what they do. Activision was never a music-game company until they bought up the rights to Guitar Hero after they realized it's "potential to be exploited every year across every platform" (sadly, those are the exact words of Activision CEO Bobby Kotick after they canned, among other titles, Brutal Legend, Ghostbusters, Wet, and The Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena in favor of..
...
Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon sequels..
...
oh and don't forget, Ice Age: The Meltdown The Game..
..
yeahhh I'd definitely rather play that garbage...

@No Kill Taylor

Yes I am. Just because they're portable titles doesn't mean they aren't as much of half-assed and sad cash-in's as their console counterparts. But even if you disregard the mobile titles, the difference between how Harmonix and Activision handle their music franchise is pretty damn clear, wouldn't you say?

We can't have a rhythm game article on Joystiq without some pompous, self-righteous RB fan jackass comparing the list of GH games to RB games! Thank goodness you've arrived!

@Matthew Perry

You misunderstand me good sir, I was not hating on Activision just for the sake of bashing Guitar Hero, I was simply stating that while I don't particularly enjoy the fact that RB is coming out with these GH-style spin-offs, I know that they will be handled with much more care than the clone army of iterations of the Guitar Hero franchise that Activision has regurgitated on a nearly monthly basis.

Nobody should compare the two companies or franchises because they are vastly different. And fine then forget the damn list, my point was still clear.

I don't go around Joystiq with my RB/GH logistics, I was just making a point.

Pardon my longevity.

Rock Band has Legoes, Guitar Hero has "Band Hero," which doesn't look nearly has interesting. Rock Band has The Beatles; Guitar Hero has Aerosmith, Metallica, and Van Halen (and The Beatles looks to blow all of them away). Rock Band has Unplugged, Guitar Hero has 3 On Tour games. No matter how much they've been "milking" the Rock Band series, Guitar Hero has always been way ahead of it.

(for what it's worth, Harmonix only have a supervisory role in Lego Rock Band and Rock Band Unplugged, the bulk of development being done by Traveller's Tales, and Backbone, respectively)

I can't see the vdo of the game yet, but if it plays like Rock Band and if I can export the songs from Lego Rock Band to regular RB or the other way around, then it's a day 1 buy to me.

If this was Lego Guitar Hero, the comments section would be a rage-fest instead of love letters. The RB fanboy legions at their best.

Anyway, I won't be buying this or Band Hero unless they're exportable. For the moment though, Band Hero has some awesome song selections. American Pie and Queen and Bowie? Hell yes.

See my above comment (which you even replied to)

I'll tell you the difference:

Activision makes sub-par GH spin-offs with minimal effort

Harmonix takes pride in their work and doesn't just cash-in

People are optimistic for good reason: this game will probably be GOOD

"Activision makes sub-par GH spin-offs with minimal effort"

I will agree Aerosmith wasn't very good and Van Halen looks lame, but as of right now, Metallica is the best rhythm game on the market.

"Harmonix takes pride in their work..."

What does this even mean? Why would you make this assumption?

"... and doesn't just cash-in"

How can you say this with a straight face? Just because they're not whoring out their property as much as the competition doesn't mean they aren't whoring it out.

"this game will probably be GOOD"

Nobody said it wasn't going to be. I just said that this place is full of fickle RB fanboys, and to deny that fact would be to deny that Sweden isn't full of Swedes.

Anyone else notice that there seems to be some issues with the construction workers hats? It really bothered me.. they don't seem to be staying in the same spot on their heads. They shift around with their movements, as if they aren't attached.
