PlayStation Network to go offline tomorrow, 8/18

The PlayStation Network will be undergoing a few hours of downtime tomorrow during what Sony calls "maintenance." The entire PSN will be down from noon EST to 2PM EST. Ignore that this is happening exactly at the same time as Sony's press conference tomorrow. While the PSN is down, PS3 and PSP owners will not be able to access the PlayStation Store or play games online.

Wait, you're not ignoring the fact that this is happening during the press conference? Well, it's time for your conspiracy theories. See you in the comments section.

Hmmmmm.... I wonder what they are up to...

They are just going to add more emphasis on PSP downloadable games. at least I would hope....

As it stands now the PSP section currently gets a little lost in the game section. They should get that worked out before the PSPgo arrives.

The problem with that is in the future, they use your fingerprint to assess your ID for purchases. But if I make a purchase in the future that my future self didn't make, it can result in a time paradox that can unravel the space time continuum and destroy the very fabric of time!

*sigh* I guess I'll just wait for the announcement and see what happens. Besides, Doc has the only time machine since that train hit the DeLoean back in 1985. I asked him to give me some tips on the future, but he always warns me against using the information for personal gain. :(

Brandon, on updates with new features they usually post a video on PS blog about a couple days before.

That seems likely as the jump to the next whole number is pretty big.
It could be something(sorry for bringing the iPhone into this, but it fits) a la the jump to iPhone OS 3 with the release of the iPhone 3GS.

So my guess (hope, dream) is that in parallel with announcing the PS3 slim they'll announce F/W 3.0 which will include backwards compatablity.
