You think $15 is expensive for a game that promises at least 10 hours of entertainment, not counting the inevitable replays?

I feel the contrary in this case. For a full, original game I'll pay $15. Its all the remixes and re-hashes that they're charging high dollar for that gets me.

yeah if anything, you picked the wrong game to complain about the $15 price. Should have done that to Trials or Marvel Vs Capcom, but not this.

You know the DS/GBA has had half a dozen Metroidvania games priced at 30 bucks that people gladly pay for.

This Metroidvania game looks (graphically) 10 times better that that and we're paying half the damn price.

I feel this game is the perfect content to dollar ratio. I wonder how they got away with this price, maybe someone screwed up and typed $15 instead of $25....whoops!

The proper term is "Castroid."

If you listen to Idle Thumbs, that is.

This game looks to be worth $20 easily buddy. Quit complaining about prices. I friggin hate all the complainers on this site. It makes no sense. One could argue that this game's length is comparable to Dead Space (which took around 12 hours), but is built to encourage replays. Dead Space was $60 at launch, this is $15. How the he'll can you argue that this is expensive?

You're getting a whole he'll of a lot more here than with your average XBLA title.

I don't really like the term Metroidvania. I feel the "Castlevania" portion doesn't belong, as Metroid has invented and pioneered the genre all by itself. Castlevania just copied it and didn't pioneer anything into the genre.

I refer to all of these types of games as Metroid-style (or Metroid clones).

Very, very true Elranzer. However, I feel the Castlevania did bring something fresh to the Metroid franchise. Mainly action; you'll recall Metroid is more about exploration, where as the Metroidvania's are more about straight up ass kicking. There's like 20 bosses in those games!

Shadow Complex seems to be something in between.

Elranzer: "I feel the "Castlevania" portion doesn't belong, as Metroid has invented and pioneered the genre all by itself."

So what? Stop taking this so seriously. Just because Wolfenstein pioneered the FPS doesn't mean other games didn't improve on the formula later on.

Not to mention the fact that it looks like Metroid has abandoned its own formula anyway. Castlevania is still doing it, and doing it with quality titles. Don't discount Castlevania just because it had the audacity to come along later.

Metroidvania/Castroid/Whateverthefuck should only really be used for Castlevania games that play like SOTN. Otherwise, it really doesn't make any sense to call any action side-scroller a Metroidvania game. Doesn't that kinda denote that it would be a Castlevania game?

iPhones must be against swearing or something. Even though "what the hell" is like the lightest swear next to "you ass." It always auto corrects "hell" to "he'll." I know it looks like English is my second language from that post above, but I swear it's the iPhone. XD

Actually, THIS is how it SHOULD be. Great big production original games should have the $15 price. And all the other "smaller" games (but still great) should be $10, leaving the simple remakes or re-releases of old games being just $5.

I'd rather have Fat Princess, Battlefield 1943, or MvC2. This looks like just a typical shooter.

I'm sure some people will drop the cash, though.

You have an awfully strange definition of "shooter" if you'd rather have bf1943 than SC – do you know what a Metroidvania game is?

metroidvania is a strange name, strangely loveable that is. Castlevoid on the other hand would make a very good dead space clone. Thumbs up both ways. (not sexual you perv)

I hate the Metroidvania moniker too. Metroid, Metroid 2, and Super Metroid all came out before Castlevania switched over to a less linear formula, and the term makes it sound as if Castlevania had as much a hand in establishing that game structure as Metroid.

However, I won't argue with people using the term, since it is a widely used term to describe a certain kind of game. "Metroidvania" is an easier word to use than to say "Metroid-like," as it is a separate word in itself. So I hate it too, but I use it like everyone else.

I agree that Fat Princess and BF1943 are more appealing that this game. I own both of them and they are both fantastic for $15. A single player game like this has very limited reply value if any. Fat Princess has a single player portion that takes a few hours and hte online play I've already racked up 10+ hours it's great. That been said, I'm sure this game will be decent.

Sony needs to drop their price, so MS can drop theirs, so I don't feel guilty when I buy a 360 now.

There aren't that many games around? Maybe if you're someone who spends every waking hour playing them, and buys every single appealing game that comes out. for the rest of us, there is -always- an overwhelming number of good games we have yet to play.

Trials HD just doesn't have the speedrun feel, no matter how much i try... i find my self doing tricks rather then racing through the levels...

The plot might not be as well fleshed out, but I did enjoy the little touches, such as all the eavesdropping you get to do while duct-crawling. Those were well designed little snippets of plot delivery.
