I prefer the Xbox 360, because of the online superiority, as well as the better exclusive games like Gears of War and Halo. I don't doubt PS3 also has great games, but I recently been playing PS1&2 games on my PS3 most often. Also, Microsoft doesn't have the bad rep of having its last gen console (xbox) outsell the current system.

If you didn't know, PS2 sales are above PS3 sales, but that might change with the price cut.

Paul, my brother, I dearly love my PS3. Rumors that no games exist on the PS3 haven't been true for some time. There are a shit ton of titles to play.

That said, the 360 has more games available. And Live is a superior service; it damn well better be for $50 dollars a year + advertisements.

hardware>software
software, just like firmware can always be improved (Which sony has done a lot of since their initial firmware). but being stuck w/ DVD9, the lack of a easily upgradable (and decently priced) HD, being able to play bluray movies...sorry i dig that stuff. same thing goes w/ the software library. there's A LOT of big name ps3 games coming out late this year, and into 2010. the software library argument, is officially dead to me. one reason i still wont buy a 360 though (hardware was the biggy before first RRoD, and now e74) but now just the cost of ownership doesn't appeal to me. 360s online service is superior no doubt about it, but one more bill every 6 months/year doesn't fly w/ me. I dont netflix anyways, so no biggie.

"...as well as the better exclusive games like Gears of War and Halo."

See, I'm with you insofar as Live. But the rest of your reasons are narrow minded. I want a 360 for some exclusive titles, but Gears of War and Halo are not among them. So calling them "better exclusive games" without qualification is like me declaring that living in the US is better because, "we're number 1". I'll enjoy MGS4 more than Halo; the same is probably not true for you.

As for not playing PS3 games...of course not. The 360 is your default console. I'll have perhaps 5 360 games likely by the end of the cycle. Because I'll buy every title not exclusive to the 360 on my PS3.

People havnt got a clue about the PS3 software lineup. Personally I think it's far superior to what the 360 has these days...

The PSN is 90% quality content (XBLA is like 10% decent)
and the platform exclusives are a million miles better.

Sony's problem is Microsoft and their army of American media buddies, doing their best to convince American gamers to stick to American consoles.

How else can you explain how such a crappy product can have such a loyal following? It's not even loyal it's beyond that. The amount of anti-sony propoganda spewing from every American gaming blogs orifice is unbelivable...

Shouldn't we be rewarding the company that makes proper consoles, not rushed out junk? Isn't that is what is wrong with most American goods, it's mostly crap, but those things can be hidden by PR, Viral Marketing, and buying media buddies via advertising budgets...

The Xbox only has a bigger library because it was out a year before the PS3! The PS3 gets every significant new 3rd party game that comes out and some the 360 doesn't, plus tons of titles from Sony's epic in-house developers.

Ask gamers what they wanna play: a number of Xobx 360 exclusives from 2005 or new games now? What a crock of shit by the analyst.

Lots of people don't have PS3's yet, and probably because of cost.

Not many people who want a 360 don't have one already.

I'd say, PS3 gets more sales.

thats my thoughts on it.....sure there are Blu-ray players for $100(shitty magnavox & dynex ones) but I believe that more people will pick up a PS3 for a BD player still instead of a stand alone....its simply the best BD player out there for under $300

I'm tired of seeing commenters get boners off your goddamn avatar. Any regular 'stiqqer would realize he's never divulged the answer, and who cares anyways... I didn't buy a PS3 initially because of both the cost, games I wanted to play, and what I consider to be a shitty controller design. I'm old-fashioned I suppose, but a new console gen to me = new controller design. I definitely want one due to the immense amount of awesome games, and will probably pick one up before year end.

BUT, "not many people who want a 360 don't have one already." - I don't think there's any reasonable basis from which to draw this conclusion at this point. I don't doubt the PS3 will get a sales boost over the 360 at this point, but I don't think it'll be for that reason.

"Lots of people don't have PS3's yet, and probably because of cost.
Not many people who want a 360 don't have one already."

Without any qualifiers, that is a ridiculous statement with no logical basis. You point to no reason why the 360 has a lower potential customer base. Now, adding "who want a 360 AT THE CURRENT PRICE don't ..." would make more sense, but still be fallacious, because the 360 is selling quite strongly at the moment.

What you fail to realize (and, from my experience reading this site, most gamers fail to realize) is that there are people at every price band between the current price and zero. Any price drop will reel in new customers. Unlike "gamers," who are a very small minority of potential consumers, most folks wait to purchase a game console until it is at a cost that fits their budget and value-to-cost requirements. What may seem even more amazing, is that the number of people who will buy increases with each lower price band.

Do you really think that if Microsoft matched this price drop with a $50 - $100 price drop of their own that people would not buy 360's in volumes never seen before?

yea I'd agree that $299 is a "sweet spot". but hell its pretty much common sense that it will most likely stay there until 2012....by that time they will hit $199 and be making way for the next gen....as for focusing on "natal" and "Sony Motion thingy" to help boost sales I'd like to think that games NOT using those will be bigger sellers, and hate to say it but those might just get old fast.....

Problem is, they haven't got the balance right in the UK.

PS3 @ £250 with the price cut, and if the X360 Elite is going to replace the Pro then that will be £190.

Being that Microsoft just upped the price of the Arcade to £160 in the UK due to the poor Pound to Euro exchange rate what makes you think they would price the Elite at £190?

And wait ANOTHER 2-3 weeks without their 360s? Most people aren't patient, I've seen it firsthand (especially people going through their 3rd+ XBOX)--they always ask for the price of the used PS3, but settle for the cheaper [insert shitty company here--not MS] refurbished P.O.S. 360 core that comes back the next day.. That's when I suggest the USED 360 core... These are people that have gone through the warranty and don't want to wait for their system to get fixed. [The whole dilemma just isn't normal]..

There are loads of gamers out there that have been waiting for this day. I can see people finally moving up from the PS2/Wii as well with this news.

[Currently employed at a shitty game shop--can you guess which? (I also own all current-gen systems--except for the Wii--so I'm not completely biased...I think.)]

You could just as easily say the PS3 is at a disadvantage because so many people already have 360s. There are so many games and so few exclusive titles nowadays, only hardcore gamers with lots of time and money can justify picking up another console.

I still don't understand the 360 having "superior online services" part - I'm not sure about the rest of you but I want my gaming console to play games and online.
Can Xbox do that? check. Can PS3 do that? check. I don't care to chat with people playing other games or log into facebook or twitter about my gaming while I'm gaming or whatever it is people do - I want to PLAY THE GAME.

For me the PS3 is superior online (yes, I have both) because the online service is FREE. I'm a 'casual' online gamer and no way am I paying a monthly subscription to game online.

I still think MS were insane not to release a 360 redesign (i.e. a 'slim') just to get away from the hardware reliability issue. However much they tout stats and new heat sinks and motherboards and whatnot it's still the same grey box and the same RROD. They should at the VERY LEAST have altered the RROD into something different. When a design feature of your hardware is a byword for failure then you need to redesign that feature.

Being able to friend people on the fly, mute people at a finger's press. Being able to see detailed information about your friend's gaming activity and compare it to your own.

I know you can surf the web with the PS3, but hey, that's what my PC is for. It's great that it's a free service but Xbox Live is much more robust than the PSN. And the thing is, when Microsoft first entered the gaming market, they knew that's what they wanted their console to focus on and they've shown that. Sony, they're all about the games and the experience and they have shown that.

(I don't know if XBL does it too but..) PSN has region locks on most online games which is a pain in the arse for two reasons.

a) Can't play with my friends in the US.
b) Nobody else plays Rock Band PS3 online in Europe.

If people actually take the time to research the titles coming out for the two systems, my money is on the Playstation.

Xbox: Halo ODST, Forza Motorsport 3, Left 4 Dead 2.
PS3: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Uncharted 2, R&C: Crack in time, Katarmari Forever, LBP: GOTY

So these are the "big" exclusive releases coming out for the systems leading up to Christmas. Minus of course, the huge games releasing for both consoles, there's some good stuff there, depending on who you are. For my money, it's going to be PS3. First time buyers should be enticed by Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank and the LBP Game of the Year edition for sure. But that's just me.
