Well, linebeginstoblur, looks like I may have to eat crow.

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2894018#post2894018

According to this post by a Harmonix Developer on the Rock Band forums, this is a misheard rumor, with more details later in the day.

Sounds like SingStar: The Beatles may not be real. And though I hadn't said I would, here is me in a dress:

My apologies, good sir.

It's quite all right. And sorry for the arrogant douchiness with which I posted. When it comes to video games and other nerdy things, I can get too worked up sometimes.

You look fabulous there, by the way. ;)

I think they'll just put a Singstar over the Rock Band logo.

Add to this article that Sony have said they have "no news/plans to release a Singstar Beatles".

That's a straight out denial, which pretty much means no, rather than the usual "maybe, maybe not" comment.

Well according to this, Sony won't be releasing it.

For those that don't understand the point of this when there's Rockband: You know, some people don't want to play plastic instruments, even if it's the Beatles. My mum won't play Rockband, but she'll play Singstar no problem. Karaoke is much more mass market than peripheral-based rhythm action.

All you need to do, then, is by the stand-alone TB:RB. Remember, Rock Band should work with any USB microphone. Plus, if you want a definitive karaoke, why not go with a game that features three-part vocal harmony? If MTV Games really wants to release a karaoke-only version, you'll see a bundle come out with TB:RB, three microphones, and nothing else. The idea of MTV Games publishing a SingStar title is many times stupid.

You can sing in Rock Band.

Why does it seem like this is new to everyone?

This is not related to the topic, sort of, but can someone please tell me if I buy the Limited Edition of TBRB, could I play only the drums in single player mode? Or could I only sing in single player mode instead of playing the guitar?

Yeah, if you're in single-player, you shouldn't be limited to any instrument. You want drums? You've got drums. Just want to sing? Just sing.

I don't get why I should cry over this.

I do find it a bit unusual, I'll say that. But if I already wanted Beatles: Rock Band, why would I be angry that there is another game coming out too. and if I didn't want Beatles: Rock Band, maybe this would appeal to me more, it gives me another game to consider buying.

@Mystile Yes I am, genius.

I don't necessarily mean from the consumers point-of-view, but Apple Corps. They always have/always will want to keep complete control of all things Beatles. They fought EMI for control over catalog music distribution. They fought with Apple Inc. for over twenty years over the name. They (i.e. Yoko) exercised control over how Harmonix portrayed John Lennon's eye movement.

Do you really think they are going to let them slap together a SingStar project in a couple months, just to make a couple extra bucks?

I stand by my original statement (and first tee hee) of whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

Having expletive that, I suppose Singstar does offer a better interface for people just wanting to sing, better backgrounds (proper film clips), and proper duets.

Makes good sense when you think about it, just the details of publishers and the link is confusing. I wish they would just release all sing star add-ons via DLC.

So since this is published by EA and not Sony, will it be multiplatform? I don't care myself since I have a PS3, but I'm surprised no one has asked the question yet.

They haven't asked because the fact it was for PS3 only was in the article.

"Inventive deal will see EA distribute PS3 exclusive, instrument-free port of Rock Band, MCV understands"

This sounds like exactly the kind of whoring out Apple Corps has been trying to avoid all of these years. The beauty of The Beatles: Rock Band was that it was going to be THE definitive Beatles video game experience and that their name wouldn't be smeared over thousands of games.

I bet EA found a loophole in their contract, and they're trying to capitalize on it.

Here's a benefit of this news: maybe a SingStar game with scrolling vocals will come out.

The static vocal style is awful, both because the pitches on one screen are not necessarily relative to the pitches on the next, and also because you have no idea what's coming up if you're not already familiar with the song.

The old Karaoke Revolution games were just so much better and more playable games than SingStar because of this.

You can change the vocal style in Rock Band. The style you allude to is an option in the game.

I know that; I'm referring to the fact that in all SingStar titles released up to this point, you're stuck with the static style and *can't* change it.

I am getting The Beatles: Rock Band, because I WANT to PLAY the guitar/bass/drums/sing The Beatles songs. I can't very well play the guitar/bass/drums with Singstar... so let whoever wants to pick it up pick it up! When they see the rest of us jamming with our plastic Beatles replica guitars, they can all politely smack themselves in the face and say "Could Have Had A V8.... I mean Beatles Rock Band!"
