Persona 3 coming to PSP with new female character
Atlus just isn't quite done with remaking Persona 3. A new issue of Famitsu has hit Japanese newsstands and one of the most notable entries is an advertisement for Persona 3: Portable. While details are slim, the ad prominently shows a new female character standing aside the nameless main character of Persona 3 and Persona 3: FES.
The ad proclaims the game will be available on November 1st, which, honestly, seems rather sudden. (No Q1 slump for Japan?) If it follows the model of the PSP port of the original Persona, we're bound to see a ton of extras remixed into the game.

Huh. Cool, kinda. I hope they update it with some of P4's features, though.
Alton Brown [Planeteer | Power of Dueling Banjos] @ Aug 18th 2009 12:15PM
Controlling your other party members would be nice. I lost to Nyx the first time I fought her due to AI incompetence.
Jampirow @ Aug 18th 2009 12:26PM
They already confirmed that you will be able to control your party members.

Emos, rejoice!
Damian @ Aug 18th 2009 11:20AM
So they bring Persona 1 Remake, and Persona 3 to PSP.
Why not bring 2 before 3?
Also Europe is not getting the Persona remake, and i cant import it from playasia or amazon.com, what do i do?
sony boy @ Aug 18th 2009 12:05PM
have you tried ebay or american gamestop??
shaffy_oppa @ Aug 18th 2009 12:13PM
videogamesplus.ca
the best place for imports into Europe imo they tag everything as a gift and a different price so you don't need to deal with customs and gamestop is good too but there will be a custom fee but hey its worth it for 1-2 days shipping from NA to UK.
Elranzer @ Aug 18th 2009 12:39PM
Persona 2 is the only one stuck in "PSone limbo" where you can only buy it overpriced on eBay and the "Innocent Sin" spin-off isn't even available outside Japan.
Atlus is sitting on a potential goldmine. The PSP is desperate for good titles at this point compared to the DS. They could bundle both Eternal Punishment (original) and Innocent Sin in one package for English regions.
I know I'd buy it.
Access Granted [No one can stop Mr. Domino!] @ Aug 18th 2009 11:22AM
Sweet now I can finally kill shadows on the go! (p1 had demons only no shadows...)
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Aug 18th 2009 11:22AM
Another remake? Is that really necessary?
DangerMouse @ Aug 18th 2009 11:39AM
On the PSP? Yes.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Aug 18th 2009 12:16PM
*shrugs*
I guess if people bought the same game twice, they might as well buy it a third time.
sakeya @ Aug 18th 2009 1:59PM
this is actually great for me. i've wanted it a long time but i just don't have the time to sit and play my ps2 anymore. a psp version would be great since i can have it anywhere anytime. its like they made it just for me!
Obie @ Aug 18th 2009 11:23AM
Get on this Giantbomb!
CH3BURASHKA @ Aug 18th 2009 12:59PM
ENDURANCE RUN, HO!
Kyle @ Aug 18th 2009 11:26AM
Just by looking at that picture, You might be able to choose your gender of the Main Character, I mean look at the similarities.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 18th 2009 11:29AM
Based on that synopsis, I would say you won't be able to choose your gender.
They both look like chics.
boltu222 @ Aug 18th 2009 12:14PM
I agree with you... seems pretty clear to me that it allows you to choose your gender...
Reinard @ Aug 18th 2009 11:28AM
Oh, wow, I didn't really think to look at the picture. Kyle is right, that's gotta be a female protagonist. The female Orpheus kinda gives that away (Eurydice?)
Reinard @ Aug 18th 2009 11:30AM
...as do the headphones/mp3 player >_> And, you know, the tarot card.
devilsei @ Aug 18th 2009 11:29AM
I hope the portable version includes FES with it as well.
I also wish they'd remake the 2nd one, loved the rumor system and the joker.
cyberalyman @ Aug 18th 2009 11:34AM
Oh, awesome, I was just about to buy it for PS2 but I think i'll hold off now. Having played Persona 4 i'm very keen to play the bits I missed, but i'd rather play it on PSP than on PS2, coz the PS2 looks truly awful on my TV right now. Could proberbly use a component cable...
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 18th 2009 11:36AM
Progressive Scan FTW.
EDW @ Aug 18th 2009 11:47AM
what?! YES! atlus, you have made me very, very happy today. persona is one of my favorite series, but since i didn't have a ps2 i couldn't play 3 or 4.
OiBlimey @ Aug 18th 2009 11:50AM
Yes! There are a lot of good games on the PSP now. It's time to get one.
But I hope they make the game more friendly... I mean they should keep the same level of difficulty during combat, but add auto-save or checkpoints, since it will be on a portable system.
D-5 @ Aug 18th 2009 11:52AM
She ain't no Mitsuru....
kwizzeh @ Aug 18th 2009 11:58AM
She's probably gonna end up as another heroine to date.
Taco_Hell @ Aug 18th 2009 12:01PM
Probably they will let you choose between male and female in the remake since the female in the picture is almost identical to the main character, has the same headphones, and the personas look very much the same.
TJF588 @ Aug 18th 2009 12:04PM
She's a new player character, though your comment, kwizzeh, makes me wonder if she'll be in if you play male (which, in reverse, would mean our mostly-silent protagonist could have dialogue!). Oh, and if you go female, Igor's assisstant will be male (heck you get a female-ish Orpheus (his deceased wife?) as your starter persona).
BTW: The 'old' prot. does have a name, though it was only given in side materials -- Minato Arisato (or Arisato Minato, if we're goin' surname-first)
kwizzeh @ Aug 18th 2009 12:20PM
That be kind of interesting. I would think they would give Minato some dialogue in the same way they gave him dialogue in the manga. He rarely talked and always looked sleepy (the only thing I remember from the manga was "I nearly died" and that's when he was holding his breath underwater). I'm hoping for vice-versa too where the female MC would end up being exactly the same. Rarely talks and always looks like she's about to fall asleep.
boltu222 @ Aug 18th 2009 12:22PM
Not really an official name, given to him by Shūji Sogabe the fellow who wrote and drew the manga...
AsherR [Planeteer | Power of Lightning] @ Aug 18th 2009 12:06PM
I loved Persona 3, but Persona 4 has still been my personal favorite.
Although I know a remake of Persona 4 would be totally unneeded right now. What I want though is a new Persona. Come on Atlus. Persona 5. NOW.
G-Anderton @ Aug 18th 2009 12:08PM
You're totally just going to be able to select her as the main character. As a male I probably wouldn't take advantage of this feature, and personally FES is good enough for me considering the updates to the male's story are negligible I'm betting. I know I'm just making excuses but I can't buy every remake of every game I enjoy guldurnit...
Frank @ Aug 18th 2009 12:08PM
I never really got into this series, and hell I don't even know what it's about apart from people shooting "personas" with a special gun to their cranium, but it seems so very hyped by the gaming community.
I'd really like to know what Persona's about and if it's connected to Shin Megami Tensei and that one with the kid in those stripes.
Leroy_Octopus [Planeteer: Power of Asian Disability] @ Aug 18th 2009 12:22PM
I never played any SMT games, but this and P4 myself. The basic synopsis is that you go to high school during the day and fight demons at night.
Nox @ Aug 18th 2009 3:08PM
If you're looking to get into Persona but aren't sure, watch these guys play it.
http://www.giantbomb.com/endurance-run-persona-4-part-01/17-219/
They're up to episode 131 now, but watch the first couple to see if the series would interest you.
TJF588 @ Aug 18th 2009 12:26PM
If it can even be partially discreditted, that's fine by me, since "Minato" sounds kinda feminine to me (prolly "Misato" right there in the same game). Though, by player-name's got that beat in goofiness (TiJae Furlle).
kwizzeh @ Aug 18th 2009 12:40PM
Minato is a gender neutral name. The manga is officially sanctioned by Atlus, but in all other official material, it's just "The Protagonist".
CH3BURASHKA @ Aug 18th 2009 1:00PM
Playing P3:FES right now and it's is pretty good. A pretty big grindfest, though, but the gameplay mechanic is interesting enough to make it worthwhile.
Jesus Christ, too much good stuff coming out on all platforms, and I don't have enuf moneyz!
Rein [Planeteer | Power of Unicorns and Rainbows] @ Aug 18th 2009 1:28PM
I'll have to keep my eye on this. Not so sure if I'll be buying this game for a third time, but if the updates are important enough, I definitely will.
kekey @ Aug 18th 2009 10:07PM
i thought that was Aegis without her armors :d anyways i hope they continue the story instead of remaking
AlphaOmegaSin @ Aug 18th 2009 3:15PM
as much as another persona game pleases me id rather them have redone persona 4 since they already made FES. and i played through the original and FES all the way through. a 3rd time might be a bit much even if its in portable form. 4 was without a doubt one of my favorite rpg's for ps2 and would like to see some extension to maybe the story or the characters in some way
giantenemycrab @ Aug 18th 2009 3:22PM
Whoa! Between this and Gran Turismo... I think I want a PSP.
Feba @ Aug 18th 2009 3:25PM
I'm not buying P3F again, but now I'm torn. Do I wait for a P4P that may never come, or do I buy it and miss out on portable goodness?
vhayste @ Aug 18th 2009 4:21PM
YES!!! More Persona! I can't wait for this!
Emophia @ Aug 23rd 2009 10:54AM
But but but but but but...
I'm atleast 3/4s the way through Persona 3 on the PS2...
Why do you hate me Atlas... why...
