I'm not surprised. This is the first Madden game I've bought in a looong time (like, the 90s I think), and I'm floored at the learning curve. It's pretty ridiculous, even for someone that plays a lot of games in general, just not sports games. It feels like it is definitely targeted at the Madden hard-core, which would necessarily limit its sales numbers. I'm certainly enjoying the game, but it's a brutal experience and very hard for me to compete at any difficulty beyond All-Pro, and that's a challenge too. I'm not sure how word-of-mouth works for these games, but I would think that a lot of less-than-obsessive gamers might be choosing to sit this Madden out.

I have Madden 08 only because it was a Christmas present other than that $60 for the dame thing every year is a bit much. I am all for buy the $60 copy and then pay $15 - $20 for DLC for a couple of years on rosters and schedules would suite me fine. I played the demo and I was not that impressed. You were caught trying to look at formations while the scroll was telling you that this is what is going to be here in the final release. On top of that buy it a month before the season starts and get the roster update if you are lucky by the second week of the season. If EA really cared they would bundle NCAA and Madden together and sell it for $80. The trend I thought was you buy NCAA play it for a montht hen trade it in on Madden.

Plus spend $60 on the game or $50 on the SI offer and still spend another what $12 on DLC for stuff that should have been in the game already.

Probably in the Minority here, but I have fun playing Madden 09 other than some of the cheap pass routes and hard as hell running, but when I played Madden demo 2010 it felt like they took a setup backwards. Looks basically the same, and the control scheme feels worse.
