Update: Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has given the final word on a Modern Warfare 2 beta, saying it's not out of the realm of possibility, but also not very likely. "While no Public Beta is currently announced we do plan on running an extensive Closed Beta among Infinity Ward, Activision, and possibly first party partners worldwide ... once the internal beta is completed, if for any reason we feel we didn't receive the feedback, address the issues, or have the result we expect, we would consider pushing forward with a public one. However at this point only an internal Closed Beta is planned." And that's that! ... or is it?! (We're pretty sure it is.)
We know you had a great time testing Call of Duty 4's multiplayer component before the final game launched, so we're sad to note CVG's report that Modern Warfare 2 will not go the same route as its predecessor. An Activision spokesperson confirmed to the outlet that there will be no multiplayer beta for the game.
We also know that sucks, so in an effort to get Activision and developer Infinity Ward to change their minds, we've started this online petition. It's bound to get their attention, right? Hello? Are you going to get a pen? It's on the internet, you don't need one!
[Thanks, Cr4sh Dummy]

Let's make a petition to get rid of every great title Activion has, and give it to poor-er publishers who would do an excellent job releasing it.
Seriously, fuck you Activision.

I don't get the whole activision/hero bashing.....see the whole thing is....not too many publishers can supply IW with the huge budget that MW2 demands. Activision can do this because of guitar hero. guitar hero pays for MW2. EA can afford to take chances with dead space and mirror's edge because Madden is a cash cow for them!
deal with it, it's a necessary evil.

I've got nothing against a higher price point for AAA titles, it'll allow them to increase budgets and ultimately make greater games.
But the real plus is that it gives an additional advantage to B grade games, as they can use a lower price to differentiate themselves, and give the consumer extra incentive to buy.

I hope it's not a move to hide defects in the game.

my thoughts exactly.
considering how poorly cod4 was supported IMO and left to hacks, lags, glitches, cheat spots, floaters, weird roof snipers, etc. i wouldnt be surprised if cod6 was looking to go down the same road.
**waiting for cod4 level 55 players to get mad**
1 map pack for the most popular shooter to date?
no more updates?

cod5 is at least playable and fair IMO.

dark wayne-
turn on cod4 online and you will see what i mean.
its not worth playing anymore IMO.
i dont even know how people still play the same maps over and over.
the only people in the game lobbies are level 55 players too, so its not new to them.
debikul- that is why ACTIVISION is testing a $ 90.00 price tag for MW2 in Europe.
because you will buy it, no matter what comes in the box.
and activision knows they have millions of suckers.
sorta like madden used to have, but those numbers have dramatically decreased year over year.

COD4's still playable as far as I've seen....I've only seen kung-fu flying people in one round so far.
There are still some unrepaired exploits, like hiding inside a rock on "Creek."
If MW2 can take all the good things from COD4 and WaW, I'll be happy. *crosses fingers*

I vote no beta - ruins the excitement of a big game release like this. There will be bugs regardless of a beta anyway.

I missed the Gears 2 part. Anyway, people just want a Beta so they can play it earlier and then also brag to all their friends that they got to play it before them.

of course thats what betas are for. We just like to say that we want to help develop the game to be better.
I think what IW is trying to do is to purposely not give us a beta so that we will want the real game so much more. a beta would calm the hype and that's exactly what they don't want.

If you are going to petition something, try to make the petition sound coherent. I'm all for multiplayer beta, but when I read this petition below I didn't want to sign it. It is embarrassing. It has no punctuation, what is "MULTIPLEPLAYERS BETA" (you mean multiplayer beta), "CALL OF DUTTY"?, and "FARE" should be fair.
"ACTIVISION WHY WON'T YOU GIVE US A MULTIPLEPLAYERS BETA FOR MODERN WARFARE 2 YOU DID IT IN CALL OF DUTTY 4 THIS ISN'T FARE AND CAN YOU PLEASE TELL FOURZEROTWO TO ACCEPT MY FRIEND REQUEST KTHXBYE"

No. Just no.
IW has proven themselves through CoD4, they don't need to prove anything in MW2. The online beta is unnecessary because the formula for CoD4 WORKS. Betas aren't meant to give you the opportunity to play. That's what a demo is.
Betas are meant to FIX things. IW has a good enough sense of what they're doing now that they don't NEED to offer a beta. If they do need to, they will. But people need to stop treating betas like gamers have a right to get betas, rather than what they really are.
So no, I will not sign your petition. If a beta will distract from development (and it will, if they deem a beta to be unnecessary), it will only detract from the polish of the game, or delay the game.
