If you read the petition, then you would have realized they are just being factious.

Okay, upon reading the actual text of the petition, I did chuckle a little. I kind of thought Joystiq was serious with this post--the text of the post is really serious, then the beta petition is a joke--should have added a little more humor to the post to indicate sarcasm there, Hinkle, haha...

Oh and AsheR, holy CRAP that was a fast response, haha...I read it immediately after posting, and by the time I was done revising my statement you had already swooped in and corrected me.

Like I said, the actual Joystiq post just seemed a lot more serious. Glad they weren't though.

yeah they proved that over 2 years when the public makes MW the most popular and best selling shooter game of all time we get 1 map pack and no more updates.

really proved themselves on all fronts.

another update and map pack would have been great espcially for the popularity of the game, but that would have cut into their time schedule imposed by their parent company, ACTIVISION, which states a COD game needs to be released every year, and IW just didnt have the staff to do this in the same time frame.

most other developers would not care to release a game on an exact date and would more care to support all their products and make games on their own schedule. but i dont think IW was complaining about their paychecks.

just realize if IW was not owned by ACTIVISION, we would probably have more support for the game, a lower price tag, and a beta.

activision really wants us to be waiting for this game and not know much about it and want more people to pay the higher price in Europe.

ITS BUSINESS, lol.
polish of the game''- you mean single player ?
i don't know how much polish you get with lag, cheats, glitches, hacks, etc online...

@skatemonroe81

What I said has NOTHING to do with add-on DLC. So I'm throwing that out the window right now. DLC has no bearing on whether a product ITSELF is good or bad. I'm talking about judging the BARE game. Not GOTY edition, not "with extra maps", just MW2, and that's it, compared to CoD4.

And as for polish in CoD4, the single player game was good for an FPS, AND IN ADDITION, the multiplayer is some of the best multiplayer on a console today. That's why more people play it than pretty much any other online game on modern consoles, whether you do or not. So yes, it does have polish. It's an excellent game.

i understand you want to look at it from a business standpoint. The every-year schedule IS ridiculous. But no one is ENTITLED to a beta. No one is ENTITLED to anything except buying the full game. If you're lucky, a company will put out a demo. But that's their decision, not an entitlement of the gamer. Don't like it? There's not much else you can do about it. We do have expectations as gamers, and that's okay. Can't set the standards too low, or you'll wind up with...well, the kind of shovelware that muddies the Wii's gaming lineup. But expecting betas and demos is something that is altogether unnecessary, especially when we've had a taste of the style of gameplay from the original CoD4. A beta or demo would be a waste of time for IW to work on right now, in my opinion.

yeah they did such a good job everyone and their dog played cod4

oh wait, the only people who cared about it were the 6 guys still playing cod2 and the new game every month retards who wouldnt know a good game from a bad one if the difference was spelled out in 42pt font.

people played it and realized it had no potential. IW doesnt want people to have a beta for MW2 because theyll lose a lot of people who would have bought it, played it for a few weeks and moved on, and theyll lose all of the people hoping that this is finally a replacement for counterstrike.

total attempt to increase day 1 sales.
especially during the EU test of higher prices.

if they released a beta there would be some different group opinions i think.

1) best shooter eva !
2) needs some work
3) more of the same, getting old
4) not worth $ 90.00, ill wait to buy.
5) im getting tired of playing the same thing
6) day 1 purchase for me.

more than half of these group opinions would lead to less sales for Activision.

This is fine. The majority of the people who "beta test" games, just play it without any regards to actual testing.

that is the definition of beta testing..

just playing the game as your normally would eventually finds unknown problems and issues when many people are just playing the game.

what do you think game company beta testers do all day for $ 10 an hour?
they play games.

Ahhhh. A beta would be nice... but I have Halo 3 and COD4 to keep me busy till Halo ODST... and that will keep me busy till MW2. I'm curious to see the live numbers between MW 1 and 2 when it releases. I wonder if MW2 will render MW a ghost town. I love these titles. There are tons of noteworthy titles on these consoles... but if these were the only games I had for my 360 I'd still be happy. :)

I don't think this is disheartening. A multiplayer beta at this point would only be a glorified multiplayer demo. And no, they don't need to test the servers, they already know what to expect after COD 4. This isn't an ignominious call by Activison.

I am a little perplexed that Infinity Ward hasn't said wither or not there may or may not be a beta.

I'm not trying to be a smartass so please dont take it that way, but I think they'd need a beta since its a new game thats either on a new server or on top of an already popular game's sever. Can the servers handle the load is a valid question I think.

As for a glorified demo....GREAT, DEMOS ARE GOOD. They tend to save me money

How are you being a smart ass? I don't have a problem with a differentiating view point.

Yes, they would probably have to test the new servers to see if they work (to see if they're compatible with the game and complies the game's data properly). However, they can do that in an internal beta. They don't need all servers online to see if there is a discrepancy. I think they know how many players they'll have on D-Day, thus they have an idea of the amount servers they need.

And yes, demos are good. They'll probably have a single player demo before the game is released. But I don't think anyone is on the fence with this game.

Well this sucks for me since I was gonna use the beta to see if I actually wanted to buy MW2. I don't like COD's system of never ending enemies in SP and I loved W@W, but didnt like MW1 as much. MW2 is lookin like MW1 with the same smaller maps than W@W which also means more grenade spamming.

Also, the beta would have been great to fix any unforeseen bug and glitches or exploits that pop up in every FPS. What is whoever is in charge over there thinking?

after that whole 1, just 1 map pack deal from COD4 THEY OWE US!

Not to mention im with the others, lets stop the glitches, etc. now instead of after release and having the game going sour until patches get released.

I'm still worried if they will just cash and run again when this title releases. Hate to say that, COD4 is solid, but man they let me know in support via updates and maps.
