Here's a beautiful FIFA 10 trailer from GamesCom
We may not know much about the athletes on the various covers of FIFA 10, but we do know that this trailer looks damn impressive. In fairness, the game often looks rather stunning, but the sizzle reel that EA has whipped up for GamesCom (found after the break) is specifically meant to show off the game to its most active market -- which certainly comes through in production quality. Though we don't watch a ton of sports (and we play even less) we're legitimately looking forward to EA's next entry in the FIFA series, set to release this October.

Is it Fifa or PES that has the new analogue directional movementy thing? This looks good, but the new PES looks to have actually improved as well, decisions decisions.
Eh @ Aug 19th 2009 1:23PM
FIFA, PES is probably still using the PS2 engine.
mike_p @ Aug 19th 2009 1:36PM
PES looked like it hasn't left the PS2 for ages, it desperately needed a facelift!
I'm all about the FIFA anyway. Lots of my mates in the UK used to swear by PES until '09 came out. Pro Evo has been lacking innovation which is why FIFA is the new champ.
Monchis @ Aug 19th 2009 4:40PM
Well, you have to see the new PES so you can stop with the negative comments.

I'm surprised that joystiq is only givin attention to fifa and forgeting about PES. Why is that?
Tom @ Aug 19th 2009 1:22PM
What's Soccer?
SpaceFox @ Aug 19th 2009 1:29PM
A fancy American word for Football.
WINterfang @ Aug 19th 2009 1:32PM
and Football is an fancy English word for Futbol.
Eh @ Aug 19th 2009 2:13PM
"Futbol" did not come before football, thats an american myth people get from TV and smartasses, England was the first country to create a professional team that plays modern football and officially coin the term
WINterfang @ Aug 19th 2009 2:52PM
What I was trying to say, is that it's called Football in non-American English speaking places.
Mazrael @ Aug 19th 2009 4:50PM
Dutch - Voet ball
French - Football
German - Fußball
Spanish - Fútbol
Portuguese - Futebol
Far as I know it's only Americans who call it soccer..
Eh @ Aug 19th 2009 1:22PM
With all this improvement in defense they better have improved AI trying to find open space, especially in the box. It was hard enough trying to even land a cross in 09, if they make the defense even smarter and leave the offense just as stupid and lazy then it will be impossible.
NitroMikeo @ Aug 19th 2009 1:28PM
I think you'll find they have improved both attack and defensive hugely, only problem is, will they cancel each other out?
Richards | PSN: F4WMR @ Aug 19th 2009 1:33PM
At Gamescom they showed the new "urgency" system in place for defense and offense. Players do now move into open space, making it much more accurate. By far I feel Fifa outshines PES. The one thing people will find attractive about PES is the whole strategy system, allowing you to tweak everything down to a tee. As an avid footballer in real life and in game, I'm so with Fifa it's not funny. My only gripe is that unless there is a major build to the game design, most things can be update via DLC. But there seems to be a number of vast improvments and mechanics, I'll buy a new copy. Meh, FOO0TY!
mike_p @ Aug 19th 2009 1:36PM
Been waiting for improvements to the keeper's AI for a while... Never had a problem scoring goals though =D
Bobs @ Aug 19th 2009 8:34PM
Aye mate I never had problems attacking or defending, it was just the darn goalkeeper that would make unnecessary dives or punch outs instead of just grabbing the ball.
WINterfang @ Aug 19th 2009 1:32PM
Hank Hill disagrees with this game.
oOWallaceOo @ Aug 19th 2009 1:37PM
I hope EA release a World Cup DLC expansion for FIFA 10 rather than release a new game at the start of next year. And if they even think about releasing a FIFA 10 Road To world Cup I will flip out
Mr. Joe @ Aug 19th 2009 4:05PM
that's the best comment i've read all day.
seriously ea, world cup dlc.
Ryan_P27 @ Aug 19th 2009 1:37PM
It looks and sounds better than 09 to me. They are allways improved every year but this year i might but my first PES game aswell.
Whoppy @ Aug 19th 2009 1:41PM
Cheers, I think this might be the year I switch to FIFA, unless PES can pull some jazz out of the bag. I might get Fifa purely because they have the Championship and I want to play as Newcastle :(
Whoppy @ Aug 19th 2009 1:43PM
Reply failure..... I feel a reduction in my manpoints everytime :(
natureboy46 @ Aug 19th 2009 1:57PM
I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a FIFA game (early ps1 i think) but this could be the year for me. The game looks great and from everything I've seen and read it has the gameplay depth to match.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Aug 19th 2009 2:21PM
Last and only football game I have is Fifa 99. Until uni, I never played a football game, then housemates at uni got me back into it, and might finally get myself another 11 years later.
butaneko @ Aug 19th 2009 3:08PM
You have to pick it up just to try the Be A Pro Career mode. If you're not aware it's just controlling one player with a very different camera style following your one guy. I find myself playing it more often than the regular manager mode.
natureboy46 @ Aug 19th 2009 3:18PM
Be A Pro sounds very intriguing. There's a similar mode in the Sony MLB games which I love. But with the ball going end to end doesn't the camera swing make you want to vomit?
Mr. Joe @ Aug 19th 2009 4:16PM
the camera is actually decent. it just zooms out to let you see what the others are doing. i usually play as a striker, so the camera zooms out so i can see the back line messing with the ball and you just try to get in a decent position for a counter or go help if they're really putting on the pressure. you get points randomly throughout the match and position is one way to get more points.

Get in my PS3
Ash Anderson @ Aug 19th 2009 3:42PM
Got '09 last year and I just don't think this is worth another $60 will probably wait till '11
avan @ Aug 19th 2009 3:53PM
@ Ben Gillbert, What do you mean by "We may not know much about the athletes on the various covers"???? Anyway Football is better that Football... :P
eilegz @ Aug 19th 2009 4:18PM
looks great, too bad that the wii version looks like crap
natureboy46 @ Aug 19th 2009 4:27PM
Aah, it makes sense now that I've seen the video. I was expecting it to be a direct third person camera.
fabian @ Aug 19th 2009 7:21PM
That looks so unrealistic, peter cech couldnt save anything :P
