I would think the best way to handle this would be have a 2nd disc with multiplayer that can be used stand-alone, or installed to the hard drive, then allow the 1st disc with the single player campaign to access the hard drive installed multiplayer.

Those who wish to install have the single disc advantage, those who don't want to install can still enjoy the full game, they just have to swap discs. Not a big deal.

I think all multi-disc games should offer this. Not a mandatory install, but those who wish to install can enjoy the full game swap-free.

If you refer to the 4 that will be a common theme between Rage (2 discs for single player, 1 for multi, and 1 for bonus content) and MGS4, as in the title, you are right.

But you're wrong.

It wouldn't bother me much. Would be nice if you could just rip the MP features to the HD with the second disc so no disc swapping but I know not everyone has tons of HD space.

Its rare that I will be playing a game with multiplayer and feel the need to go into single player or vice versa. Most the time I just play single player early in the morning when no one I know plays online.

Yeah I totally agree. They should replace it with installs every 10 mins and force us to watch some old guy smoke a cig for 3-4 mins. Soo much better.

It's 2009 and you still have to text friends on PSN. Wow. Get with the times. No wonder you're so fast at comments. All that texting practice among HOME friends. Sweet!! So have you all texted each other to see when they are going to have any release dates on games with specs but no game play visuals? I would have liked to have been there for those text sessions! I want to know when some of these titles are coming out.

Oh no. Please. Not disc swapping. I may have to get off the couch instead of sitting there like a fat ass like all the complainers out there. Serious?! Are we actually debating this? Who cares. As long as it runs great and looks great.. who the hell cares! Besides.. I can handle changing a disc. At least that's something I can fix. You can't fix PSN. It will always suck ass!!! :)

I'm going to give this game a chance when it's released, just because id has a decent reputation for making games that I like, but I'm really not holding out much hope for Rage. Unfortunately, a few of id's more recent games have been more like tech demos of their newest engine, rather than anything significant for gamers.

Still, I'm holing onto a shred of hope for Rage. Gah, I even hate the name.

Judging from your comment history, I would think you'd like rage.

And just from what we were shown at quakecon, it really does seem like this game has more meat than any other id game ever has.

It looks wonderful and seems to play wonderful as well.

I'm personally really excited for it after seeing the qcon demo. But I'm even more excited for Brink. Then again... I'm an ET kind of guy, so it's a bit more up my alley.

To the people who don't mind disk swapping, your either use to it or you like waiting 3 minutes to get to the game.
I for one, dislike disk swapping, from the games that have done it (Blue Dragon, and other RPG's out there) take a while to load.
I guess you need patience which, I do not have.

It's diet time Pillsbury Dough Boy!!!! Maybe it's not that you're impatient. Maybe it's just that you're morbidly out of shape. Cut down on the buffets and you'll not only have more money for games.. but you'll have more stamina to stand a bit and change out a disc. Hope that helps.

Installs are usually a one time thing, and not all games have mandatory installs. And Rage on the PS3 is supposed to run at 60hz when it releases. I would prefer the PS3 version, but there's no problem in switching discs.

Getting the PC version anyways. To be honest, I didn't know Rage even had a multiplayer segment until not.

Quake Live aside, I think I'm right in saying this is the first id game to be developed completely in-house in a long time, right? Even DOOM 3 had outside developers make the multiplayer part of the game.

This game was always going to be 2 discs on 360. The only questions was, will it be 3? Carmack was complaining about MS royalties on a 3rd disc and that it would look WORSE on 360 if they had to squeeze it onto 2. I don't give a shit how many discs it ends up being, it better not look like shit on the 360. id and MS better get their fucking bullshit squabbles settled.

why dont they just release the game on HD-DVD? with the greater storage capacity of the HD-DVD disc, disc swapping will be avoidable...

SOLUTION:

Why not have it so that if you install the multiplayer disc to your hard drive you could still play with just the first disc in the tray? No swapping necessary.

Blue-ray does not suck even through it costs an arm and a leg, it makes for less headaches as far trying to compress everything to fit in one disc.I still love the DVD-10 capable 360 far better games are on it and make ps3 games look like s***.But with that I know 360 dvd-10 spec for the drive is pretty fudged , they should have used DVD-18.

http://dvr.about.com/od/dvdrecordableformats/f/faq5.htm

all I can say is it's the 360's fault.ps3 games well they have alot of space but they suck a** for the most part.

Whocares. I can swap a disc faster than you can install one. I'll even race you to see who can finish first, lol. Whats the point of having all that space if you have to install it? Either way it's a set back with time and space on your hard drive. Even though we get more discs it's still gonna cost us $60 so it doesn't matter, plus we have the " OPTION " (not mandatory) to install if we wanted to and even that is faster than the process on the PS3 cause of the slow ass read speeds of blu ray.

I'll give Sony fans alot of credit tho, they are very patient. They wait for everything, wait for installs, wait for slow downloads and installs after downloads, wait for games that take about 10 years to drop (GT5 still not out), wait for 3rd party titles that the 360 sometimes gets first, wait for price drops, waited a year and 1/2 for a killer app that had nothing but installs and cut scenes, and wait for features on XMB and PSN that the 360 and XBL had since launch, even had to wait an extra year for the PS3 to launch cause Sony didn't stick to the original date. I didn't believe Sony's 10 year plan but now I do cause they delay everything, just now getting features the 360 had since launch. That's alot of waiting

Suck. They should give you the option to install the multiplayer disc to the HDD and then you can load it through the menus on the singleplayer disc. I hate swapping discs... I know it's the arch of laziness, but I will often just play a game because it's in the 360, or it's an HDD game.

Installing to the hard drive sounds like a good idea , but how much of the multiplayer are going to install.I've had my 360 for awhile and barely have about 4.3 gigs , and I'm not deleting anything. In this case I would rather swap the damn disc out. or if I had ps3 time to dust that thing off.

I'm fine with this. My multiplayer disc will remain in perfect condition while my single-player disc will get all of the wear and tear.
