I don't know Wayne, it is starting to look like that and the blood is all it has to offer. I love the hell out of Bioware, but this game just doesn't feel like something they would make yet. My guess is its just bad marketing and a poor attempt at being "edgy". I hope it will be good, though I would prefer a new Jade Empire...

im really excited for it actually prime, im glad to see bioware go back to their classic style. I really loved Mass Effect, but it felt really lacking on the exploration and party member interaction. I bet the scene with the nearly naked lady takes a lot longer to achieve and develop a much deeper relationship with her than talking with Ashley about being racist and her dead father and grandfather, hopefully more like the Bastilla romance in KOTOR, although I wish this game was able to do it with voice acting for the player

Surely the fact that there's a character who sounds like Katherine Janeway from Star Trek Voyager is more than enough to entice you to buy this game... that and the prospect of seeing a small person drink from a giant goblet and a lump of metal with a tiny head, it's like they forgot how to do proportions or something, I'm surprised the scantly clad lady isn't more Japanesey.

Actually 1:46 is where there is nudity. Its a quick flash. Looks like a succubus. You see her clearly, but without the nudity just afterwards.

Hey finally a good lord of the rings game!

Seriously, what's the combat like in this game? I've heard different things. Some say it's like the old PC wrpgs, where you click an enemy and watch your guy slash until he's dead. I hate that so much, I actually prefer turn based jrpg combat over it.

But I've also heard it plays like an action rpg where you actually have control over your character and use X or whatever to attack. Hopefully the game uses this.

Tmac, go to Giantbomb and watch the gameplay video. It sure as Hell looks like shitty, shitty point at a dude and watch your dude hit the other dude combat to me. I am so damned skeptical of this game now, after watching that video.

Bioware makes such good stuff, but after playing the cinematic masterpiece that is Mass Effect, I can't help but feel that this silent protagonist-having, old ass combat style-rocking game is just not going to be as good. Lord of the Rings plot or otherwise.

I sincerely hope they prove me wrong.

Wow that looked really really bad. There's a reason why wrpgs didn't become popular until they ditched that horrible combat system, why the hell would Bioware go back?

Now I don't know about this game, we need some serious hands on previews for this to set the record straight so I know if this will be a rent or a buy.

That's the thing, I can't play those games for very long. Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape, Fallout 1 and 2, and neverwinter knights all have horrendous combat because they use that system I described. Those games are all remembered for their story and script too, not for their gameplay.

Even kotor had pretty bad combat, but they had finally moved in a great direction with Mass Effect (and even that was sub par combat wise compared to other third person shooting games). Why they're going backwards now....I have no idea.

I think you are in the vast minority when it comes to the opinion of those games. Many people have been asking for them to bring back this style, and the KOTOR game's combat system was a very simplified and restricted version of the Infinity Engine games.

The only people I've ever seen demand that archaic battle system are irrational PC fanboys. You know, the ones who think Fallout 3 was a bad game because a different developer made it (and also because this developer "betrayed" the PC and focused on consoles).

Then again, I'm on the opposite side. I can't fathom why someone would want that battle system back. It was literally right click on an enemy and watch your guy run up to him and slash mindlessly until the enemy died. To make things worse, everything was decided by a dice roll. It's much better to actually control your character like in Mass Effect or Oblivion/Fallout 3, where your skill determines if you hit an enemy...not a magic die.

Oh I'm sorry yes, they were shitty games and that's exactly why they're constantly praised and placed highly in "Top-X" games lists, every single publication and reader that liked them is an idiot fanboy.

Eh, the battle system looks more like an MMO battle system. Better than the old Diablo click-fest but not as fun as my favorite JRPG menu based systems.

I have not played KOTOR or Mass Effect (gasp) so I can't comment on whether those are an improvement over this or not.

Tmac has a point, I'm not sure why people are getting up in arms about his comment. Certain combat systems work better for certain games. Neverwinter Nights (Nights, not Knights, haha) works well with the d20 system of combat (I've found it works a bit better if you play a caster on the player's end), as there's not nearly as much action as this game looks to have. I agree though, frankly, the combat system here looks fairly terrible, just from that trailer jerkface posted. Looks like MMO combat, with 24 healthy doses of knock back.

A.) Lady's wearing a bra and underwear! Where I'm from, that's nearly naked. I'm sorry if you were raised in The Titty Twister.

B.) The first line was a joke. Honestly, the game looks good and it's disheartening when BioWare throws in unnecessary sexuality for either controvery's sake or cliché's sake or, well, I don't know why. But it looks cheesy and forced.

Blood, intense violence, language, partial nudity, sexual content... Zzzzzzzz

You have to do better than this, Bioware. At the very least i was expecting some dwarf tossing, chicken decapitation, wench spanking and gnome kicking in that rating.

"If only they could hold off on the hint of crazy industrial music"

Yeah, why can't EVERY fantasy game have a sweeping, orchestral soundtrack? This genre ain't big enough for the two of us, you crazy industrial music, you.

If it were LotR, or some other classic license, I'd feel more upset. But since it's their original IP, I won't knock their stylistic choices. Especially since I kind of like it.

I really, really like industrial music. And I agree that too many games of this genre have the same type of music. At no point did I imply this should have that music as well. That being said, the industrial bit stinks of the ridiculous "bigger, better and more badass" marketing that came with Gears of War 2. The game looks to be deep and interesting -- why cheapen it with out of place (literally, anachronistically out of place) music in the trailer? But it's a personal thang. If you disagree, you do. C'est la vie.

I agree on the point of anachronism, though I would argue that similar uses have been effective--and awesome (e.g. NIN in trailers for 300). I think it comes down to the tone the developers wish to set, and they appear to be going for a very "summer blockbuster" feel, as evidenced by their cinematic cuts as much as the industrial music present in (nearly) every trailer.

To be fair, though, I haven't played it. I can't comment on whether or not the trailers are misleading viewers about the game's overall tone, so it could very well be that the game itself would be better represented by a more era-appropriate soundtrack.

It is my hope that Bioware picks a tone and runs with it, rather than toeing the line too much. Well, I say that as if the game were not nearing completion. So I hope that, whatever their tone, Bioware has chosen wisely.
