Namco bringing STALKER: Call of Prypiat to PCs this November
24
In its GamesCom press conference in Germany this morning, Namco Bandai revealed that it would be handling publishing duties for GSC Game World's latest entry in the STALKER series, titled STALKER: Call of Prypiat. Scheduled for release in November 2009 for PCs only (where's the console love?), this "standalone expansion" contains approximately seven to nine hours of gameplay -- "more if you want to explore the free world." It's not clear if Namco is handling publishing duties outside of Europe, but we'll update this post when we find out.

How far did you get in the game, Vidikron? I thought Shadow of Chernobyl was very good and made even better by mods like Oblivion Lost. The game becomes a lot better a couple hours into the game when you start getting better gear and start understanding how to play it. The expansion Clear Sky was just okay, though.

I honestly didn't go very far. I played a few hours and just said, "Screw it". I disliked almost every thing about the game.... even down to the way your character seemed to run like he had a corn cob stuck up his ass. I know the game wasn't trying to be CoD or anything like that, but if one of your main mechanics is going to be FPS combat then do it right. The combat just felt stiff and awkward. That was probably my biggest turn off from the start.
Perhaps I did give up too quickly on the game, but I've got a life, the consoles, and a capable gaming PC. So I don't waste much time on games that don't grab my attention from the start. There's always another game or another activity I can be doing instead. Plus, I felt burned by the hype. I just quit and never went back.

Amen, my friend, amen. PC gamers are getting shafted far too often these days with shoddy ports and missing features/content.

Man, I hope I can work up getting excited for this.
Clear Sky really spoiled the series for me. It was fun, but when the number one complaint of the first game is that it is super buggy, don't make the second one exactly the same.
Plus 3 times now they've said, "this game will be awesome, you will want to have it's babies"
And twice it's been disappointing. When your fans have to fix the game for you. Someting isn't right.

I would love to see this series on a console.

For god sakes guys, make some proper patches for your first two games before working on another sequel!
I think Namco knows the game will be too damn buggy to be released on consoles, at least, not at the same time.
Don't get me wrong, I love STALKER, but I reeeeaaally wish they were better made.

Well I've always loved the STALKER games despite the massive amount of bugs and it's difficulty, the atmosphere always gets me immersed into the game.
While they would like to say otherwise, I expect this game will be buggy as hell, but I'll still play it because there are few games that offer that kind of atmosphere.

I don't see why people are complaining about the bugs when Fallout 3 is a shit-ton buggier then any of STALKERS. This also would not be too good on the consoles at all because it would control like tank, I know because I once tried to play it with a controller.

To be fair, SoC wasn't too bad and Cs was fixed with the latest patch, but even die hard Stalker fans like myself know that Cs was a failure at the GSC, I think some people were fired over it?
Either way, the series is incredible and I have been so excited over this news. I cannot wait until November. Sucks that this is only an expansion, but look at the facts...
SoC (5? Years in production) = Good!
Cs ( 1 year after SoC release) = Bad start.
So I'd take quality over game play at this point. However, a Stalker 3 has in fact been announced on the Stalker Planet, so this Ex pack will hold us over =)

I find it somewhat amusing that previously console-centric Japanese companies like Sega, Namco, Square Enix, Capcom, etc. are now supporting the PC as a gaming platform while Microsoft as all but abandonned it.

I'm a little confused. The web says it's bit Composer Games who is the publisher. What's Namco to do with them? Owners?
