Aside from announcing the first three Beatles albums to be released as DLC for upcoming tear-jerker The Beatles: Rock Band, MTV Games and Harmonix today revealed intentions to bring the Rock Band DLC count to 1,000 songs by this holiday. At the current rate Harmonix is releasing songs for the franchise -- without factoring in the Rock Band Network -- that's roughly 500 songs per year.
Additionally, the companies have revealed a number of the artists that will be contributing to the holiday goal, including Queen, Nirvana, Tom Petty, Elton John, Iggy Pop, The White Stripes, Pantera, Talking Heads, Korn, and The Raconteurs, as well as the ever elusive "and more." You can always find out what new tracks are coming to Rock Band as DLC (and what's on the way) by using our Rock Band Weekly feature.

I like when HMX pulls something out that was in a previous GH game back when it was Guitar-only. It's the same thing NS did with GH:SH, but it works. Since the early incarnations were mostly covers it's nice to get the original stuff.

Sounds like a lot of those groups are already in Guitar Hero. I wouldn't be surprised it they were the same tracks, too. I picked up GH:WT, Smash Hits, and GH5 is on pre-order. Those have saved me from using up some of my free Pepsi Rock Band awards.

So Queen WASN'T exclusive to Guitar Hero like Jimi and Tool are? Jesus, where has Harmonix been?

Maybe Queen was a timed exclusive? It would be hard for me to imagine any label agreeing to pure exclusivity for life - there's too much money out there to be made. However, it's possible a lot of these artists are inking one- or two-year deals with Activision or HMX to get a nice bonus of cash up front.

I decided to read the entire announcement and came across something that made me laugh. In this statement, Harmonix totally disses Guitar Hero, saying that Rock Band is "completely dominating its closest competition". At least they were smart and made it subtle, right?

Yeah, the Stones were a notch on the GH belt, hopefully HMX will get some too.

I assume that this will include the Beatles DLC, and Lego (if it has it's own.) If that is the case then I'm not really suprised.

As much as I love these bands, it's sad to see that most of them I can already play songs by them on either Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Very excited to see White Stripes mentioned. I just read the GI article on the RBN, which has me really stoked. I guess that goes in to beta this month, which could mean that by this holiday a number of labels will start pumping out new songs and back-catalog into the game through the Rock Band Network. Very exciting.
