Seen@GamesCom: Same location, different PS3 ad

Remember that awesome deal we saw yesterday before Sony's press conference at GamesCom? It was the one that had the PS3 and PSP for €399 -- a pretty awesome deal ... yesterday. Well, not only does electronics retailer Saturn hate "teuer" (translation: expensive), they apparently have lighting-quick gnomes changing banners.

This morning we passed the same sign and behold: the new deal was the just-announced PS3 Slim and The DaVinci Code for €299. Not a better deal, but boy, is that ever efficiency at work.

Ouch, either way the deal would suck. PS3 Phat + PSP = meh. You're just getting the old models...

But now... PS3 Slim + The DaVinci Code..... no comment... -.-

And this retailer must have known about the Slim, they put up that new banner a little too quickly for my taste. Hm....

when you say old models you talk like its a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen Ipod which changed over time and each generation was different.

the ps3 phat and slim are running the same software and hardware and therefore are the same machine in a lot of ways.

the psp 3000 and psp GO are running the same software and hardware also.

this wasnt a new generation of machines here....
the ps3 phat will do the same things as the slim FOREVER, except travel well.

and btw if you lived in germany, they are not the worst deals at all.

actually space the funny thing is the older models can do more in a lot of ways.
with the 3000 i can play games/movies/etc from a memory stick or UMD disc.
with the GO i would be hindered to memory only.

i dont get why you feel the new models offer more ?
that is the point of releasing a new generation of machines, this is just a new model of the same product.

''newer'' doesn't mean anything and definitely does not mean better.

All good points there sk8monroe. By old models I don't mean they're necessarily worse, but imagine being someone who bought a PS3 Phat the day before the Slim is announced when they prefer the Slim, I'd be kinda pissed if I were that guy. =/

And the old ad stated 399 for both the PS3 and PSP, and now the PS3 is 299 there. It really is not the best deal around, idk how much a PSP 3000 costs there but it can't be that much more than 100 euros(or w/e the currency is). So you really wouldn't be getting a deal. For about the same amount you could be buying a PS3 Slim and the PSP Go.

All depends on personal preference though...

yeah the worst is if you bought a ps3 the day before for $ 400 and the next day it was $ 300 and the retailer you chose said no price changes after sale.

i think the psp goes for $ 150 eu price ?
so slim at $ 299 + movie MOST dont want to own + psp @ $ 150 = $ 450 eu
phat + psp = $ 400 eu

either way the psp deal was only if you wanted both and probably wasnt attractive to most people at all.
nothing beats a $ 300 ps3 and your right the newer model is more appealing in so many ways, but not in some also.

Be karefull wizz zee german ads, you will zink "Ooh watz a great deal dizz izz" but zen, when you leazt expekt itz, Zaturn will have all zee money and they will keep itz all too zem zelf and zen, zen you'll have to pay more for zee chokolat pooding cause there izn't enough money in zee world, and zey raize zee prizes.

the da vinci code is a fantastic book, but barely decent movie IMO. i think the old deal was better.

There is a Step 1, ????, 3. profit joke in there somewhere.

Can't stop thinking about the PS3 Slim. It's as if it's corrupting my mind...No problem there.

So when is Sony gonna announce an EXACT release date for the Slim.

rumors say its going to launch on September 11th.

Sony has the perfect marketing strategy for the Slim: They'll start with 2 PS3 phats standing side by side in a city skyline. Then, all of a sudden, 2 paper airplanes will crash into the sides of twin, towering PS3s. And finally, out of the rubble the PS3 Slim will rise.

Totally flawless marketing.

Welcome to Europe, im from Poland but we got them too ^^ MediaMarkt and Saturn (they have same owner) is a rain of such offers, you can find something new every week, ones they selled xbox arcade with 2 games + extra pad... in same price. They main theme (at least here) is MM: "Nie dla idjotów" (Not for idiots) Saturn: "Żer dla skner" (Food for misers) ^^

Sorry maybe i overdo it a little :p i had price of Premium xbox :p
