We're just going to lay it down right here: We have no idea what's going on in this Tekken 6 trailer from GamesCom. There's something about a (possibly evil) corporation and there's some other company, and one of them declares war on the world. Somehow, this results in a fighting tournament ... we think. There's also a bear-God-thing, a dragon, a mech and ... was that a panda? (At least we've been able to pinpoint the Scenario Mode, a 3D beat-em-up of sorts, spliced into the footage. See it?)

King's belt is an ancient device that serves as a lock to an alternate dimension. Inside this dimension (called Jimenoshi Space) lives an alternate Dragon (Dar-Ei) whose heart is a power sphere which can grant any wishes. Said wishes will only apply to the alternate dimension, but G corporation has been researching ways to bring it to our reality. Jin is trying to sabotage G corporation to get hold of this secrets.
is it just me or does that dragon part sound very similar to Dragon Ball Z? ...if the winner of the tournament recieves dragonballs im ompletly convinced :P
There IS a story to Tekken. I started to actually pay attention to it from T3 on up. Try to look it up on Wikipedia some time to get a grasp on it as I'm sure it's there. Also T6 is continuing from T5 very smoothly. This must take place a year after judging by the characters aging (or lack thereof).
It is pretty hilarious to see the silliest of things listed in the trailer, but for people that have played the game, it actually makes sense. Yes, the mech, panda, and dragon can all make sense together if you just play it....for a while...
I wouldn't go as far as saying that it looks like a PS2 game but I agree with you that graphically is not impressive.
On the PS1 and PS2 the Tekken games were always a graphical showcase of the system, but in this generation it seems no 3D fighter (Tekken or Virtua Fighter) is pushing any of the consoles too hard. Considering that even with multiple levels you still only have two fighters on- screen at once there are many more details and effects that could be added to make the graphics look more real or detailed. After all we have seen other action and adventure games with more characters, explosions, and events taking place on screen still feature hair details, facial animations, and much more. By now one would think that these 3D fighting games would look super real.
Tekken 6 looked amazing when I first played it last year and BR is even better-looking. There is a lot of detail in both the characters and backgrounds that just doesn't show up in low-res Internet videos.
Reserve your judgement until after you see the game in motion.

Jin Kazama took over the Mishima Zaibatsu (evil company) after the last tournament, and after that he kinda turned evil (corrupted by Devil). Gotta do your homework before posting, guys... you're making it sound as if you don't really deserve to be working here.
I think the author was just poking fun at how nonsensical the story is, especially to people who are new to the game. I can't believe that he really didn't have the slightest clue what was happening in the trailer.
LOL@PS2 graphics comment. You obviously haven't seen the game IRL.
Also, nobody plays FG's because of graphics. If you do, you don't get the point of it all.
@Joystiq: Tekken's story started at Tekken 1. You guys are probably... under 22? Too young to remember (or appreciate) the golden past of fighting games (SSF2T, VF2, T3, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, Tobal 2, Soul Calibur, etc. the list goes on).
Kids then are the journos of today, and all you grew up on were the easy and shallow games. Sad.
I guess that kind of confusion happens when you had never played before previous installments of the franchise. And with Tekken 6 now coming to xbox alot of newcomers to the series are guaranteed to have the same kind of feeling.

Wait until you see it up close.

I pity the fools that buy Tekken 6 for xbox... Especially with that horrible d pad..
The xbox version should not be allowed out of the store without a stick. because they'll need it.
