EA, Ubisoft pleased as punch post-PS3 price plummet

As happy as you might have been to read about the PS3's price being slashed to $299 in the US, trust us: Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot and EA Games president Frank Gibeau were much, much happier. Not only will, theoretically, more systems fly off shelves but buyers will have a little extra cash in their pockets for the companies' games.

"It's exceptional news, actually. I think the machine is a great machine, with the Blu-ray," said Guillemot, who was having kind of a rough day with English it would appear. Gibeau shared his enthusiasm, telling GamesIndustry.biz, "It's an old line, but it still rings true for us: 'We make the ammunition for the hardware wars.' So the lowest priced hardware possible is a good thing for us."

Also, we never noticed how much Gibeau looks like Radar O'Reilly.

I'm assuming that little troll Bobby Kotick said nothing, even though he threatened jumping from the platform because people couldn't afford the PS3. Right before announcing a $200 game.

I'm confused about this statement. If someone goes out and spends $300 as opposed to not spending $300, how will they have more money in their pocket to buy games?

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the price cut. The people who were waiting for it to go down to $300 theoretically have $100 more to spend on games or whatever they want.

Now they should lower the price if games so we have more extra cash to buy more games

Yea, I've actually gotten some exceptional deals on games. You just need to know where to look and when. I've purchased GTA IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, and GT5 Prologue all for $20, $20, and $10, respectively (when they were relatively new). I've also gotten the Orange Box for $10 and a whole Rock Band 1 kit for $40. I just used a deal where I got Fallout 3, Top Spin 3, and Burnout Paradise for $60. Just keep your eyes and ears open and look out for good deals. For example, when you sign up for the Toys R Us rewards program (or are already a member) you can get a $20 gift card to Toys R US when you buy Batman:AA. If you do it on a Tuesday, you get a $30 gift card. They have these promotions every so often, so next time they have it, just use your old gift card and get another one through the deal.

Ah but think how much better the deals would be if the games were 10 dollers cheaper.

you know what .. the games are too much money from Activision i wanna price drop in the games from Activision in Canada i don't wanna pay $78 or $79 total for their Guitar Hero's and their Call Of Duty's Or Tony Hawk Games ... i wanna $10 price reduction or i'm not getting their products anymore cause it's just not worth it.

I still will never understand why the hell games went to $60.00 dollars. They are still $50.00 for the PC so what gives? Are you really going to try to convince all of us console gamers that it cost more money to make them on the console then it does on PC?
Yes you can get good deals on games but not on day one. Who wants to wait a couple of months to buy the game cheaper (maybe) just so when you finally get the game you can get your ass kicked by everyone online because they have been playing the shit out of it for the last few months!!!
Lower the fucking price back to $50.00 dollars and quit screwing us!

xbox fans are going to hate but the truth is ps3 will pull ahead of ms eventually. they are just making more exclusive first party games and thats a fact. or at least more quality ones like infamous, uncharted, motorstorm, killzone, resistance, gran turismo etc.... i wouldnt mind having both systems but if i had to choose one itd be ps3 by far. who in their right might is going to disagree with the fact that uncharted and those other games are better than ms first party offerings? i just want to see ms release some good first party stuff and i dont see too many coming in the next 7 months. i hope they get their stuff together cause competition is good.

The gap is currently upwards of 8 million, so even assuming that all prices remained fixed from this point forward, Sony would be hard pressed to catch up by 2012 or so, when the gen ends.

I did a Google Image search on Guillemot and almost every one of his pictures looks like a pose for Tiger Beat or some such magazine. Much more pleasing to the eye than that troll Gibeau.
