In an interview with VG247 during GamesCom, Square Enix producer Hiromichi Tanaka said that discussions with Microsoft surrounding its Xbox Live policy are one of the reasons Final Fantasy XIV has yet to be announced for the console. "Because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that's something we're in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement," Tanaka said.
Tanaka also revealed that the phrase "launch timing" was cut out of SCEA CEO Jack Trenton's "Final Fantasy XIV exclusivity" announcement at E3, but it does not mean that the MMO won't see life on the Xbox 360 in the future. Final Fantasy XIV is set for a 2010 release on the PS3 and Windows-based PCs, and is sure to include the cutest Chocobos you've ever seen in high-definition.

I'm still upset that they are giving these these MMO's a numbered release. This should be "Final Fantasy Online II" or "Final Game That'll Kill any Real Fantasies II"

Here's how this works: If the game creates enough hype and it looks like it might help sell few a PS3s, MS will send truck loads of cash towards Squnix's way.
How many people will want to pay for Live membership and for this on top of that anyway.

if you quote him carefully (I remember) Jack said "PlayStation 3 will be the ONLY console you can play Final Fantasy XIV, when it launches in 2010" he didn't use the word "exclusive". 2011 on 360? or only a few months after, but not the launch date?

I'm so glad there is a list of amazing MMORPG's coming out Champions Online, DC Universe, Star Wars TOR and Star Trek Online and seeing this added to the list will finally get ppl to finally escape the clutches of Blizzards MMO. This game has so much promise and with no leveling experience will get ppl to see a MMO in a different way, change is always good if it works right. Nintendo is a company they gives us change every few years and it may see odd at first, but it becomes the best thing you've ever tried. It would be nice to see this on all 3 systems maybe even a MAC. These companies want to make money and games are costing more and more to make so have exclusives just doesn't make sense these days, maybe 5 years ago, but these days these developers need to get paid. Here's to FFXIV for 2011 release now I hope MS is listening.

Nah. There's somethin not right here. Microsoft is willing to swiftly take Metal Gear, Tekken and any other exclusive that Sony has latched onto, but when Final Fantasy 14 is mentioned, they say so because of policy? That doesn't sound like Microsoft. Most likely Microsoft has looked at the game and said, "No. This is too much to soon. Final Fantasy XIII had all this hype and all this attention surrounding it and that's what we wanted. Something that would make us money, but nobody's really gonna care about 14 when 13 hasn't even been released yet.
It just doesn't sound right. Microsofts apt to taking anything from Sony with muscle behind it. So Microsoft is either gonna bend the rules to accomodate a game, or they're gonna say, "No, its not gonna sell. Its too much to fast."

You haven't hear, have you? Microsoft hates MMO's
I kid, but with some truth behind it.
There hasn't been a successful MMO this generation.

Still skeptical about the whole MMO thing. Most companies, labeled Not-Blizzard, have a hard time nailing down MMOs on PCs as is, but consoles must be a passing dream. I dunno. It's Square Enix. Alot of money is behind this one, unlike most. I would like an MMO on a console, only if the possible subscription leeched my prepaid XBL/PSN cards. Never trust the internet these days.

doesnt really matter, there will be the dominating WoW and the anticipated Star Wars: Old Republic clouding the games popularity. and for consoles, there ur DC world thingy for the PS3, and for 360...go get a PC

If it ends up on the 360 you'll be paying for it twice as you'll be paying for your xbox live subscription and then you'll pay for the FFXIV subscription!
I think it makes sense on the PS3 as there is no subscription fee involved!
I played FFXI on the 360 and didn't like the fact that I was paying double for the game and it didn't look all that good on the 360 compared to the PC!

What the Hell. I guess Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be the only PS3 exclusive game.
I want to see Square make an exclusive game for the PS3, because I want to see what they can do if they optimize the PS3.

FFvs13 will also wind up on the 360. SqEx likes money, and has no loyalties to Sony (nor should they).
Versus XIII runs on the cross-platform Crystal Tools engine, like FF13 and FF14 do, so there's no "PS3-optimized" going on there. The PS3 isn't even capable of better graphics than the 360 anyway.

This is incorrect. All FFXI servers are fully cross-platform and cross-regional.

So much for Sony saying that FF14 is PS3 exclusive. LOL.

They never said that. Watch Sony's E3 press conference and see what Tretton says.

"PlayStation 3 will be the ONLY console you can play Final Fantasy XIV, when it launches in 2010" he didn't use the word "exclusive".
Which should still hold true, as 360 will most probably be released at a later date. Welcome to corporate speak.
