Smartly catering to customers with enough patience to wait for the announcement of a redesigned, cheaper PlayStation 3 -- but not enough patience to wait for it to actually come out -- GameStop is offering PlayStation 3 Slim pre-orders online and in stores. The retailer's data currently indicates a shipping date of August 24, which is less than a week from today and notably removed from the system's expected September arrival.
If you're not yet convinced, be sure to check out our various unboxing images, videos and other utterly childish reminders that we already haaaaave one.
[Thanks, Dustin]

Yep, I did what I said I was gonna do and bought the old fatty last night at the cheaper price instead of the slim. I don't like the look of the new one at all and I have my consoles on display, so the look mattered to me. So far, so good.
I wanted to buy Uncharted but they were sold out since the price dropped on it. (Also maybe people were buying it in anticipation of getting their new PS3?
I ended up buying the first Resistance. (I'm disappointed with it, to be honest). Can you guys recommend some old PS3 games that will be good. I'm think that Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted will be my next purchases.
I also bought my first BR - The Watchmen. It's pretty.

A bunch of my buddies have mentioned that one to me, too. I'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks.

I'm just trying to catch up on the older, good games that I've missed out on.
@ Longhorn:
I definitely want to get KZ2 but that's still regular price. I've played LBP and can appreciate it, but it's not really my thing I guess. I've only played a bit of the Metal Gear series. I was holding that in my hand for about an hour before I put it back. It looks pretty amazing. I'm sure I would like the game, but I doubt I would understand what the hell was going on in the story, haha. Would I still like it without knowing the story?

LittleBigPlanet for sure (but you should wait til the GOTY edition that comes out in Sept).
And I second Heavenly Sword. Short but sweeeet.
I was disappointed with both Resistance games, personally. :(

I'd say that Resistance 2 was a bit better than R1, but I wouldn't pick that as my prime FPS...I'd go with KZ2...it's nice and LOUD, not to mention pretty. If you can get Resistance 2 on the cheap, do it for the co-op. It's not pretty, but a lot of fun IMHO.
For racing I'd go with MotorStorm 1 or 2, also Pure and/or Burnout Paradise. (I'm more of an arcade-style racer fan) If you already have Pure or BP on 360, bully for you!
Heavenly Sword, definitely. Solid game...short, but still underrated in the realm of gaming greats.
Folklore is also another underrated title, and now you can get it uber-cheap. It has a good bit of text to read, but its atmosphere and gameplay were refreshing to me.

Wow, Heavenly Sword seems to be pretty underrated, indeed. When it came out, a friend of mine was in love with it and still talks about it. I'll be sure to grab that one. I should be able to find that fairly cheap, too.
Thanks everyone!

Definitely Metal Gear Solid 4. While you would understand a lot of connections easily by playing the previous games Kojima released a MGS Database you can download free from PSN. It is a pretty detailed account of all the MGS story, character relationships, and events that took place over all the game's saga. That ought to bring you up to speed.
If you are specifically looking for older games then definitely Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm, and Folklore if you want an RPG. To this you can add Warhawk if you want some mutiplayer action, and Lair (which was seriously underrated and whose controls are very good). All of these you can find for cheap now. You can also add Genji to the list. It is not an incredible game (specially if you are getting Heavenly Sword) but it is not bad either. And of course R&C and Uncharted already on your list.
If you want even cheaper games there are plenty on PSN. PixelJunk Monsters and Pixeljunsk Eden are very good, High Velocity Bowling (since last year you can play online), Echochrome, Stardust HD, Elefunk, Fat Princess, Flower, Everyday Shooter, etc (most of these have demos you can download to try for yourself).
And of course plenty of recent games such as Infamous, Killzone 2, Motorstorm: PR, Valkyrie Chronicles, Socom Confrontation (get the bluetooth mic).
Plenty to choose from.

@Uncle - you want to play the entire series. MGS4 may be enjoyable, but you would enjoy it much more having played at least MGS2 and 3.

Why the need to specifically pre- order/get the Slim model when you can get the original RIGHT NOW for the same price?
I get that the price drop is a big deal for most people but it seems that some are more interested in the design of the slim than the console itself. Personally, if I were looking for a PS3, I'd pick up the $299 cool looking original over the $299 slim any day of the week.

Hey Jack.
You are free to get the original or Slim model as you please. And if you want to save a few cents (not bucks, cents) a month on your electrical bill to have more money for games by all means. But please don't fall for all the "green" nonsense out there.

i know im late on replying cuz i just finished playing FFX and X-2 till now.
but to think that its called PS3 for only playing PS and PS3 games only then whats the use on calling it a PS3 y not just call it PS1.5 w/ HD Games.
if its not goin to play all the previous systems.
i have like 60 PS2 games and im still playing it with my 4 y/o PS2 console.
and all im saying is that they might if they think whats good or not. even if i have to w8 or dont buy it at all it depends.
still im just putting my opinion so that i know what ppl think about it.
