If you already know for a fact you're going to buy Halo 3: ODST (and you're not planning on hocking games with GameStop for it) this may just be your best bet. Slickdeals points out that pre-ordering the $60 game from Amazon will net you a $10 video game store credit (plus $5 extra with coupon HALOODST) and a $5 Amazon MP3 Credit .
In case you're not so hot with math, that effectively brings the price of the game to thirteen dollars. We're not sure how anyone could pass that up.

I managed to use the coupon yesterday, but passed it to a friend and she was not able to use it. Checked the slickdeals forum and apparently many people are not able to use the coupon. YMMV.

Seems more like it brings it down to 40 dollars. Also Amazon FTW!

Joystiq, the $5 mp3 credit won't work on this!
On the rules and regulations on Amazon for this deal, it says:
"Promotional offer is valid from August 5, 2009 through August 31, 2009"
Also:
"If you pre-order or order the qualifying product and place it in your Shopping Cart but do not complete your purchase of the qualifying product, or if you return the qualifying product, you will not qualify for the promotional offer."
Amazon doesn't charge you until it ships, so the sale is not final until Halo: ODST comes out, which is after this offer expires. I have this preordered from Amazon for $46 + the $10 vg credit. Excellent deal still.

Your title "Pre-order Halo 3: ODST through Amazon, get $20 in credits" is contradicted by your brilliant writing of "In case you're not so hot with math, that effectively brings the price of the game to thirteen dollars. ".
Two things, check your math and to effectively bring the the price of the game down, there would have to be a rebate or instant discount on the game.
Credits for the Amazon MP3 store and a FUTURE video game purchase do NOT bring the price down for ODST. The game is $60.
Some of the worst writing on the web!

I think seeing as "thirteen dollars" is italicized maybe he knew what he was saying.

I'll tell you how I can pass it up. Will Amazon have at 12:01 on the 22nd? Every time I've pre-ordered from Amazon, and I go with free shipping, it shows up a week after the game came out. Fabulous. I'll stick with my Best Buy Pre-order.

they don't even have the collector's edition, nor Sgt. Johnson. I hate GS but I'm gonna get me my ODST controller and Sgt Johnson unlock.

Only buy from GS if you want the controller. Best Buy has Sgt. Johnson if you pre-order as well. I'm still on the fence about the ODST controller. I have the Halo 3 edition 360, so I have a green controller. And along with my other 360, I already have 8 total wireless controllers, and a wired one. Do I need another?

Same here. My guess is they won't turn the code on until a week or two before the release. As long as it just says there's an error I'm happy. If it said it was already used, then I'd be pissed.
