Try as Activision might, we're still not convinced we need yet another peripheral for our already cramped living rooms. Consider that we've already used our BalanceBoard for snowboarding, Sony's EyeToy is sounding more robust every day and Project Natal is promising a board-free skateboarding experience. See the common denominator? No new, large plastic objects in our houses! That's a win-win to us.

Oh. And Guitar Hero: Mindless Self Indulgence would be terrible; Steve Righ? is absolutely notorious for his disjointed, fret-with-your-chin-if-you-want chords.
Imagine playing to Mastermind: Chord... Walk to kitchen, make sammich... second chord...
The guitarist could practically go to sleep while the vocalist was spazzing away like a crazed crack monkey.

I'm not a big fan of the never-ending stream of plastic peripherals either, but if you honestly think Natal or Eye Toy will do anything like this, you're an idiot.

I'll bite, although I don't understand how either of Sony or MS's motion controller efforts relate to this article. Where appropriate, I think a plastic peripheral can help the gaming experience. The Wiil, I personally find to be absolutely awesome when it comes to playing Kart. I think it adds a lot to the experience, and I like the handiness of where the B button is placed. I find it less important in Wii shooters, which I have very little experience with. Had fun on RE with a zapper shell, but found it to be less essential.
What always gets lost in translation on bait like this is if you like it, great, if you don't, then no big deal. Don't use it.

Sony already did this using eyetoy on PS2 in a game called anti-grav
So if you honestly think they can't do something like this with PSeye/natal, you are an idiot.

Maybe I said too much. Admittedly, one of my least favorite things to ever see on here is some idiot saying "if you don't like it, you don't have to read it"
It's the dumbest, most brainless type of statement to make when commenting on a blog, and now I'm sort of guilty myself.

Hmm. Can u say, "Out like the Nintendo Power Glove"??? I'd be SHOCKED if this thing isn't in the clearance bin in about 3mos, for real. I think TH needs to hang up the video game deally...unless he and Activision just wise up and just take the Skate series controls and ideas and slap his name on it.

I think a cooler idea would be if they went the opposite route and went full on arcade-style with surreal skate park designs, insanely huge ramps/jumps, and ridiculously over the top tricks. And slap a jet engine on the skateboard for good measure.
I don't know if Tony Hawk would get behind that kind of thing though.

No, but I'm pretty sure they didn't have jet-engine skateboards.

I may be in the minority here, but while I am all for new control schemes and stuff, I'd have to compare the Tony Hawk series to Megaman. I just want the series to pull a Megaman 9 and have a brand new game, perhaps on Xbox Live/PSN/Wii Ware with the controls and features from the 3rd installment.
Also, I didn't care for the controls in Skate, as I guess I prefer a more arcadey style game when it comes to skating.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I can't believe Activision went for this and NOT Brutal Legend.

You'd rather buy the cheaply made plastic board with sensors on each side and an accelerometer in it?
I guess you're just one of those people who really, really wanted to learn how to skate, but was either too lazy to leave their house or too scared to get hit in the nades a few dozen times.

I want this to fail! Why? Well not so much because it uses a peripheral. If you're into those, good for you. I personally despise them! No, it more has to with the fact that you're forced to use that motion board thing. You're given no other control options.
Imagine if you're in a wheelchair and love the Tony Hawk series. Oh too bad, you can't play!, but also, If the game succeeds. A domino effect will occur, where It'll send a message to other developers, that gamers want peripherals, not regular controllers. You'll see a slew other games follow suit and start favoring peripherals over regular controls, until peripherals become the norm and I won't be able to play video games anymore.
The bottom line is, give the user more options, don't force something on the consumer, just to sell your expensive add-on and make more money.

i figured the advanced setting on this game would at least tip its hat a little to semi-experienced skaters. like maybe actually doing a kick flip with the piece of plastic would do one in the game? heel flip, etc. no it's just that cheap. another game i won't be buying that comes with a peripheral to mark up the price. what a gimmick.

Is that the Lakai Fully Flared clip?
Cause I dunno why that's in there cause I highly doubt Lakai is that involved with this game seeing they seem to have no ties with Hawk.
