Try as Activision might, we're still not convinced we need yet another peripheral for our already cramped living rooms. Consider that we've already used our BalanceBoard for snowboarding, Sony's EyeToy is sounding more robust every day and Project Natal is promising a board-free skateboarding experience. See the common denominator? No new, large plastic objects in our houses! That's a win-win to us.

Yeah because that giant 100+ dollar natal camera isnt large or plastic enough to count.

Natal isn't that big, let alone the size of a skateboard
Besides, it goes on top of the TV, so it's not gonna take up any extra space in your house

Are you an idiot or a Tool?
Have you seen the size of natal? It's a couple of cameras, It's not big.
Have you seen MS assign a price to natal? Link please.

I'm waiting for the first news story to mention a player smacking the board against someone or something because they got frustrated with the functionality. Or because their weight broke it. Whichever comes first.

By all the money Actipission is getting from plastic things, they should have enough to buy their own country by now.

peripheral fail.
Surely most gamers who used play tony hawks did so because they didn't have to prance around like a fool?
I still prefer gaming when sat down. I can exercise outside for real!

Peripheral fail definitely.
I mean, the reason a skateboard works in real life is because it has WHEELS. These wheels allow the board to roll at high speeds. The momentum which is built up allows the boarder to do tricks and so on.
I can't see how it can be intuitive or realistic when you're standing still. Try telling a pro-skateboarder to do a grind or something while standing still.

Man, I bet they never dreamed this thing would be so almost unanimously rejected by the gaming community - the amount of flack and ridicule they get all over the web is almost brutal. And they were probably hoping for an easy cash cow by jumping on the peripheral bandwagon. Poor guys...
But honestly, I love the early games (they peaked with 3, I think), and I wouldn't consider buying this thing either.

Im going to use my TH skate board as a shelf in my toilet.

I can buy a skateboard for cheaper than this and actually go outside and skate for real.
..and if you think this things going to be injury free.. give some thought to the combo based gameplay of the Tony Hawk series in the past. Now imagine yourself spinning 180 on that board with every flip trick into a grind, into a manual, into a grind.. Exactly how many times can the average person spin 180/360 degrees without getting dizzy and falling into that nice HD TV in the corner?
Yeah, I'll stick to a controller and skate.2, or my real board and a skate park thanks very much.

Watch what you say about Tony Hawk. The man still competes professionally, not to mention is pretty much a founder of the popular sport.

I know we are all supposed to be negative about this game... but it actually looked kinda fun.
This is the first time i've seen it actually being used, and it was a looked A LOT better than i expected.
Of course, until you get to try it yourself, there's no way to be sure.... but if rodney mullen says its cool...

Awesome article! I remember seeing this video... what... months ago? GG to joystiq for staying current.
I avoid cocktaco cause of the slanted, biased advertorials in their articles. I'll deal with Joystiq being days behind cause they tend not do have the same kind of slant. Joystiq - if you're gonna slant, at least check www.daysbehind.com for your news first.

Dear TH team,
I think I will pass, but I have to say I am sorry that me and the TH games had to have this break-up. It wasn't me, it was you. I would have been very content repurchasing an updated THPS2 with better graphics, if this meant, of course, that i could play graffiti mode online. But no, you had to give me this present and ask me to make a very big comitment to you. I am sorry because of your recent failures (anything after THPS3, with the exception of maybe THUG), I can not make this comitment. Prove to me you can bring your franchise back up to a level were I can trust you and maybe then we can start over. I am just to scared of getting sonic'd all over again. So,I guess this means we should go our seperate ways. I will always remember the good times we had and hope one day we can still be friends.
love,
TheC0A7S

This shit looks fucking lame. Fatties will have busted ankles and broken hearts in no time. They should have just done an open world online thing in the vien of THPS2. That was the best one imo.

Seems like people will hurt themselves on this. I can imagine most people are as dexterous as pro skaters. Even then, this board seems like a bad idea with people leaning, twisting, turning and probably face planting, crashing through coffee tables, etc. Good luck Tony.
