Borderlands isn't even out yet. Sure, you know about its three million weapon combinations, but you also know that's not enough. Don't worry, because Gearbox is on the job, as company president (and consummate yarn-spinner) Randy Pitchford informs Eurogamer that DLC is "already in motion." He says that "people are going to be surprised" by what the content is, and how soon it will arrive. He adds that Gearbox will be monitoring what players want after the game launches in October, so the company can adjust DLC plans accordingly.
An announcement regarding the first batch of DLC should be made "soon." We have no way of knowing what the DLC will be, but we're assuming that exploding spiders and flaming midgets will be involved.

What are we talking about, the game, or a dictionary? Because I think it's obvious you'd rather suck balls than read one of those.

Before anyone says it, he said on Twitter that it will not be content already on the disc, nor will be it content that was previously cut.

It just seems strange to say, before the game is out, "we're doing our best to make this game awesome. But we're already planning ways to make it more awesome, which you have the chance to pay extra for, hooray!"
That said, so long as they put in effort into making this cool and worth it, and make sure they don't finish it *before* the game is shipped, it's all fine by me. My problem with the Beatles DLC is that it's tracks that probably take about half a day to program in (unless each comes with a new visual 'soundscape') being announced waaay before the game is even out.

Baron, this has been talked about before on here, but it's always worth repeating. At this point, they really can't add anything to the final disc, it runs too much of a chance of introducing new bugs/glitches, so it doesn't matter if they finish DLC tomorrow or two weeks after the game ships. Now is the best time for a dev to work on DLC, as their core designers/artists have nothing to work on for the final retail project, but can ensure that DLC comes out in a timely manner, not a year later.

*Sigh* No wonder people are complaining about DLC just being a way to get more money out of us.
This DLC should be in the game if it's already being worked on before the game has even come out. -_-

They have to pick a point in time to stop working on new content and polish the game for release. But that doesn't mean they can't stop coming up with new ideas and stuff to include in the game after that cut off point.
There's a big difference between RE5 and a 100kb add on that seems to add features already included on the disc, and complete packs along the lines of the Fallout 3 stuff. Don't just assume all DLC is stuff that they held back to squeeze us with.

DLC is both a gift and blessing. This is a perfect example... unfinished game has DLC already. Maybe they should just keep quiet till game is out for a good month

The game is finished. They are polishing it. The people who are not at work polishing it are working on DLC. comprende?

So, instead of writing out simple words like 'then', 'this', and 'suck' and come out sounding like you completed a basic elementary education, you rather come out sounding like an idiot?

why would we use short text? If anything it's more difficult to read and type that. For us at least, being stupid probably comes naturally to you

If what Randy Pitchford said is true ("We'll be looking forward to what mods will come"), then there'll be no need for DLC.

Just release it with the retail game. On the disc. for free. Assholes.

So, what exactly are the designers supposed to do after the game's content has been finalised, during the testing, bugfixing, finalisation, manufacture and transit of the game? Twiddle their thumbs and wait for the game to be released before starting to develop DLC?

It's now Xbox Joystiq, all of the writers for the stories are the same, they are just covering more news than they used to be. You can click on the little button up top that says Xbox to only receive mostly Xbox news if you still want it to be like X3F.

Could you do us all a favor and follow spydertaco's advice? It just makes it a lot easier to gloss over unbelievably faded comments (honestly, I have to adjust my monitor) if they're all together in a nice thread.
See that? That's called punctuation and spelling. I don't get on people's case for little stuff very often, but you epitomize everything that is wrong with humanity, and you do if with so few letters!

it's one thing to plan dlc, but it's another, more annoying thing to work on it before release. this and assassin's creed 2 get my scorn for that.
they ought to observe the feedback within the release period to see what went well, and what went wrong and fashion the dlc from that. working on dlc before the game is released - might as well consider it witheld from the disc and charged for it later (i'm looking at you, RE5)
