This was what Castlevania was supposed to be when it went into 3D...or at least what it should have been.

I used to be worried about CV, but I'm becoming very hopeful.

I know a lot of people are excited for a more action orientated Castlevania, but I really hope they don't turn this into a straight beat'em up like Devil May Cry.

The entire Castlevania series (well except for the N64 and second PS2 game) has always had outstanding atmosphere and beautiful music. If they can somehow meld the exploration bits with the new gameplay, I'm sold.

I personally liked the PS2 castlevania games giving iga credit cause they where his only two 3d games he has made for the series. Even thought the combat system was better in lament than curse, I have always played the games for the story mostly and gameplay second. But Hopefully this new producer does not let down any long time fans since the first one on nintendo. I just want them to make a 3d castlevania game that allows you to explore draculas castle freely that would be sweet.

It's a shame they didn't start it off as Castlevania, because even if what they say is true I think most people will always see it as a rebranded game.

Personally I think that was a horrible marketing decision. They stole their own thunder if this is the case.

Without wanting to be a pedant Castlevania II was actually the first non-linear sort-of-rpg. Fucking loved that game until about half way through when you had to decipher an completely abstract and oblique clue that made no sense whatsoever in order proceed. Only discovered what to do fifteen years later on the web.

so...yeah. I, III and IV were action, as well as rondo and the gameboy ones

1. Yep, Simon's Quest was pretty much a MetroidVania title.

2. You never had Nintendo Power / a playground? The ending of Simon's Quest was so bad-ass. I'm sorry you missed it for so long.

I think I got the game after it had been out a while and nothing was in the magazines

plus it was one of the first games I owned and I didn't really know what I was doing

no one else had that game :(

I actually figured that part out myself, and I was DAMN proud when I did, because the clues they gave made absolutely NO sense. Still, fantastic game.

3D Castlevania was perfected by another franchise, Devil May Cry.

It's going to take a shitload of effort for Konami to convince me this is a Castlevania.

Having Patrick Stewart on board is a huge bump up, though. *Engage.*

It's kind of...EXACTLY what the series needs again.

The pouty-faced transvestite thing worked fine for Alucard, but applying that style to every other character in the series since then was an awful mistake.

I call BS. They're just trying to save face at this point.

Real question is why they continue to spend time and money making games that will obviously suck balls.

Seriously, look at Shadow Complex. Now go make a game similar to that in the Castlevania universe. I would buy that game. This generic 3D action title with the Castlevania name slapped on to move more units? Not so much.

I kind of agree with John. I wonder how much interest I'd have in this if it didnt have the Castlevania name. Furthermore, if they did a SotN/GBA/DS game for the HD consoles, in the same vein as Shadow Complex, I would definitely be more intersted.

This still does look pretty good tho.

Agree with NaeemTHM though and Hope this doesnt turn to Devil May Cry style

If it really was always a Castlevania game why even announce the game without the Castlevania title in the first place? Should have just waited Judgement out I suppose.

Also a big mehhhhh to it being entirely action oriented. Nothing wrong with that, but after Shadow Complex I really would have preferred another SotN-like game. Ah well.

I'll be getting this game regardless of whether or not it was originally intended as a Castlevania game. Why? Because the story is intriquing; the gameplay looks promising; and the voice actors are top knotch. What's not to like?

And to head off all the whiners who will compare this game to God of War because of Gabriels moves with his whip. Who cares!

Actually, with the voice they gave Dracula, this would sound great.

I haven't played DMC and I'm really interested in it, and GOW is good at first but short and repetitive. I hope Castlevania doesn't go the same way and combines action, exploration, and what it seems to be an interesting story, perfectly, because that trailer looked pretty damn epic.

FTA: "Cox pointed out that some of the best entries in the series (notably Castlevania II and IV) have been action-only affairs."

Most will disagree with Castlevania II being one of the best, but I won't be one of those people. I've always held Castlvania II as one of my personal favourites, despite its flaws. I really wish they would revisit that formula.

This game's just had an air of half-bakedness about it from the beginning. As i've said before, it's outsourced twice, and conceivably has nothing to do with actual Castlevania games.

Now, Metroid Prime has proven that the Metroidvania formula can be both outsourced, and made 3D, and excel tremendously (to the point of becoming the best game of all time), but only when you hand it off to competent devs, which this group has not proven

It looks really good for a God of War style game, but we'll see just how good it is at being Castlevania.

I'm gonna give it a chance just because they got Patrick Stewert on board.

Enticing with its elements (seemingly) pulled from God of War, Devil May Cry and Prince of Persia. I'm expecting a solid, memorable title.
