The news coming from
BlizzCon has been fast and furious -- and we can hardly blame you if you haven't been able to keep up with the announcements coming from Anaheim so far.
- WORLD OF WARCRAFT: A little expansion by the name of Cataclysm was officially announced, with a world of pain now on its way to classic Azeroth and two new races. So what's new in Azeroth? Two new races, Goblins and Worgen (Horde and Alliance respectively), the reordering and rezoning of much of Azeroth, an array of new race/class possibilities, a brand-new secondary skill, and some shake-ups in class mechanics and character/guild advancement.
- DIABLO 3: Meet the Monk, the game's latest class and -- so the trailer suggests -- a kick-ass martial artist. Also, surprise surprise, the game may still be coming to a console near you.
- BATTLE.NET: Battle.net will gain new features in the expansion, including an Xbox-Livesque ability to see what your friends are playing and which servers they're on, in addition to sending messages to them.
- PICTURES: Here's a map of the reordered post-Cataclysm Azeroth, a gallery of the art display at BlizzCon (containing some Cataclysm art, employee-decorated noobz, and StarCraft and Diablo universe pieces), a dedicated gallery for Cataclysm concept art, and a gallery of the costumes at BlizzCon.
- VIDEOS: We have video for you of the Cataclysm trailer, what Azeroth zones will look like post-Cataclysm, and the animation for Human-to-Worgen transformation.
- THE GUILD: The entire cast showed up and brought the funny at their live panel and at our reader meet-up. Gallery here!

Even being a fairly large (well ex, now) WoW nerd, and SC, I don't really see the point of Blizzcon.
You go, you see at MOST 3 games (this year, years past it would be basically WoW), and learn of things that you could of found out from home.
Now PAX on the other hand, has hundreds of vendors, dozens upon dozens of demos for upcoming games, much more diverse panels of speakers, and much more variety overall.
How BlizzCon sells out in like .00003 seconds and PAX doesn't, is beyond me ._.

Well, lots of people are crazy into WoW. Like, I play it all the time when I'm not in school, but I mean some people are *too* into it. You know. Like even in person, that's all they talk about.
But I think one reason BlizzCon sells out so fast is its proximity to Disneyland. That's a big plus for me. Disneyland rules.
Anyway, I never in my life thought I'd buy a PPV of a special event, but I actually bought it for BlizzCon this year. Amazingly, it hasn't been disappointing. I'm only really in it for WoW, though I might buy Diablo 3. The worst part has been the competitions. I learned long ago at Comic Con in San Diego: Comic Con is for nerds; masquerades and such are for UBER nerds.
How much did BlizzCon cost, though? It was really expensive, right? I think I got the better deal spending $40 to watch it at home in HD. Also, as a girl, I was compelled to get my own Grunty. That thing is crazy cute.

girls play wow? a/s/l plawkz or are you overweight like 95% of the wow population?
a5ehren @ Aug 22nd 2009 9:52AM
At least you went out of your way to show you're a douche like 99% of the WoW population.

Actually most of the people I've run in to at BlizzCon are pretty cool, it just seems to be redninja15 who is a ginormous douche.

@redninja: If you've ever wondered what a vagina looks like, let me give you a detailed description: something you obviously haven't and probably never will see in person in your lifetime.
This is exactly why I hate WoW. Stupid fucking idiots using a shitty MMO as a penis-pump. Too bad you can't chat filter 15 year olds entirely.

I know this is sort of off topic, but when I keep reading Cataclysm I'm thinking of one of the Homeworld games. Sadly I dont have that game anymore else I'd be playing it again.
