The company isn't currently discussing whether there will be a subscription model. The initial offering of comics will be from the "all audience" category, so we won't be seeing any of the niche Marvel stuff just yet. You can't really see it due to the focusing issue, but the PSP picture is beautiful. We're looking forward to seeing more of the service.

Well, they have a reply button for a reason. Anyways, that was a useless comment.

$1 for a digital comic, I'd totally buy. $2 is pushing it and will limit the number of comics I buy if I buy any at all. I mean I could get all 199 issues of the Civil War saga on DVD, legitimately, for $80...
But then again, Marvel has always shown convenience and price for consumers is a perplexing issue for them.

I also think $1 is a great price and will contribute to many impulse buys. $2 you already start thinking about it. They should also offer bundle package of big series where you end up paying half the price .50 cents for buying all of them together. Also why downvote somebody who thinks a reasonable price should be .25 or .50 cents? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if that's what's he thinks is the perfect price then so be it.

Are the Batman comics in the "All audience" category ?

Yeah, but I'm sure DC will sign up sooner or later.

Marvel isn't only doing "All Ages" books -- shown here are titles from All Ages to A to T+. I think they just said that to let you know none of the MAX titles will be on here.
DC doesn't use their own ratings system like Marvel does, but if they sign on, I'm sure Batman titles will be available.

This could be a great service to revitalize both the PSP and Comic book market.
$4-5USD for a 30 page comic is pushing it these days, but something like this might make more people want to purchase a tradeback once it comes out.
It's real important that they get this right.

So then not only did you not watch the video showing how it will auto-zoom to important sections and text, making it perfectly readable, but I also assume that you don't care about comics seeing as how anyone who even REMOTELY likes comic books is excited about this.
Why are you watching a video for this service then and making multiple comments about it, then?

i went through the first few pages of his comments, and in them, he wasn't saying one sentence comments or putting links at the end of his comments. yeah his comments are retarded, but that doesn't mean he's a marketing droid. it just means he's an idiot.

ive not heard someone call an analogue stick a "joystick" in an awfull long time. and i dont think ive ever heard someone call shoulder buttons "top control parts"
this is a great feature to have. i love a comic when im on the shitter. but i think that the price has to be right. i fear the europe prices particulaly in the uk just wont be of the same value for money as the us price would be.

Good thing he's a Marvel representative, cause I'd be worried if he was from Sony

Wait I think you guys got that wrong. Sony dosent have "the final say on price". They stated this like 2 years ago at GDC. The only other control they have on price is charging Marvel or any other company a fee per gigabyte of non exclusive content.

"With the PlayStation Network, a lot of the land is still up for grabs," said Eden, promising that developers would be able to retain creative control, own their own IP, and see larger royalties than on competitive services. "Sony want to manage, but not own the platform," he added.
Eden said the PSN was open to distributing a number of different types of content: downloadable games, demos, add-ons, trailers, original videos (coming this summer), digital strategy guides, soundtracks, comics, and psOne games.

Eden added that what differentiates PSN from the competition was pricing, as well. "We don't set or recommend prices, or have price slots," he said. "Sony just acts as a digital reseller, you're free to set your own prices."

You appear to be correct. James of the EU PS blog said this about the comic service: "pricing is in the hands of the publishers, much like third-party games on the PlayStation Store." in response to the 4th comment.

You can listen to music while watching comics! Oksy, so that's not a big deal for paper comics that you read at home, but reading an issue during a commute while listen to mp3s is friggin' hot.

I got something from or capcom i forget which saying I get a free month of the service for being one of the first people to buy MvC2 when it came out on psn last week. It says that I can just take the free one month but it still wants to know your payment info (CC info and all that).
I'm sure its legit from sony/capcom and not some scam site but if they giving it free why they want my CC info. I smell some kinda loophole where they charge you or automatically sign you up unless you unsubscribe eventhough it clearly gives you an option that says "only the free month"

So that you can only get the free month once (per card at least)?
Though I would think store login IDs would work well enough. But maybe there's loopholes there that the consumer could exploit.

Yes. Yes it is! This has got to be epic fail. Any thing digitally distributed should be cheap, really cheap. There is no resale value so why should the price be comparable to the real comic? Same goes for games on demand MS! As LoCuSt pointed out above, you can get it for free so why push people to piracy?

There is an 'in focus' video of the reader in action here: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/08/19/chatting-comics-in-golden-square/ and don't forget IDW, iVerse are also signed up with more publishers to be announced soon.

2 dollars when you could get demonoid and get them for free though...
Unless they offer a subscription base where it's like 20 a month or so for everything I have the feeling you will only have people focusing on one character.
Say I like Iron Man, at $2 a pop i'm only going to be buying Iron Man comics, the other comics I want I can just download.
It does look like a nice little application though.

That auto-flow feature is pretty sweet. It's really a necessity, in my opinion, for digital comics, especially at that size.

People that were hacking there PSP's could have done this for free years ago.
That being said I would pay $1 for comic if they are NEW issues, and not back issues. The marvel online service now is stuff that is a year old or older. I could buy a lot of physical comics that are that old in a 50 cent and dollar bins. Why would I pay $2 for something I could never resell when I can get the real version for way less?

again I am a fan of the hardcopy wagon in this case as well as UMD games going digital. I don't own many comics myself but odds are the ones I am going to buy I'm going to buy a physical copy of...
But I have to agree 100% why would people pay $2 for something that they could get real copies of for around if not under a buck and in this case there is no post production, printing etc fee and a minimal digital distro fee, EG sony taking a cut of the profits. So they could probably do the .25-.50c price point and make a killing. Especially if their comic selection is of the year-old+ variety and seeing they have made their money off the comic run over a year ago in physical sales, again assuming their comic selection is not current.
I mean I might even opt to buy comics I already have just because I love reading them and would like to have them with me at a moments notice but not for $2 a pop. plus like Rish pointed out they have no collectible value that is in my opinion 3/4 of what COMICS are about.... I buy them because I want to read them and COLLECT them if I just wanted to know what happens I'd go read a spoiler blog.
honestly its almost like saying we are going to charge you near full price to full price for digital baseball cards that you can look at but can't do anything with .... well at least comics are more entertaining.
