According to the UK's Pocket Gamer, Nintendo is launching a new initiative to reinvigorate the DSi's digital distribution platform, DSiWare. Though prices will stick to the current model ($2, $5, $9), the piece reports that developers will have a lower barrier to entry for publishing their games on the DSiWare store. Nintendo apparently still has some say over developer pricing, as it will charge developers different rates based on a game's file size -- the example given being a $5 game must be under 200MBs, otherwise Nintendo charges a higher royalty rate.
After Sony announced the upcoming Minis for the PSP this week, it appears as though Nintendo has responded. Considering the fairly light support that the company has offered in the way of DSiWare -- that is, if you're not into themed clocks and, um, more clocks -- we're hoping that this effort will revitalize the downloadable game catalog on Nintendo's newest handheld.

I don't care, i have a DS lite.
(though that one that translated langauge in photos sounded cool).
Do you mean to say you CAN'T port VC games to DSi? Why does nintendo always ignore the obvious?

This was always going to be the case. Wiiware is a clear example that Nintendo are clueless about what online is all about. People who may have been genuinely excited about DSIware were naive bordering on stupid and they deserve to be disappointed.
As the days go by, the DSI continues to be Iwata's greatest failure. It's a pointless pep project and the plug should have been pulled as soon as the idea hit the Powerpoint screen.

I still don't know how to get online with my DSi. I don't have wireless so what are my options?

-Get a wireless USB dongle and plug it to your computer.
-go to a friend's house that has wireless
-go to McDonald's or maybe some little coffee shop with wifi
and if you're desperate, walk around your neighbourhood and find some house that has unlocked wifi.

The drivers for the official Nintendo wi-fi dongle messed up my XP computer's internet connection, so I'd stay away from that. I'm not too sure about any third party solutions, me not being much of a fan of third party hardware.
If you shop around you could probably snag a cheapish wireless router instead. That'll probably be much more useful in the long run.

Long time ago Nintendo decided it was above the console wars and decided not to really fight.
Sony doesn't think so.
COMING THIS WINTER: DSIWARE: THE RECKONING

I've heard very mixed thigs about the official Nintendo USB wi-fi thingy. The fact Nintendo pulled it speaks volumes I guess. To be honest I'm not really a fan of wi-fi at all. I've certainly no need for it in my house so getting it just to hook up the DSi seems a bit overkill to say the least. But if a USB wi-fi dongle could work then that would seem like a very good solution for the cost & requirement.

I think the thing to take away from this is that Nintendo is looking to open up to more developers, particularly indie developers. This may be the first steps to allowing a legitimate way for homebrew developers to create and publish apps for the DSi. There's most likely still a bit of work that must be done, but I really hope this is where this leads to.
