The protagonist in Activision's Singularity has the ability to age and, um, youth-enize people and objects, which led to a burning question on the minds of a few people during a presentation of the title during GamesCom. See, when you age enemies, they'll turn to dust. However, when un-aging them, they'll turn into "Reverts," creatures in an unnatural state that can assist or attack the player. It only seemed reasonable to those in the room: Why wouldn't they be turned into babies?
An Activision rep explained, "If we start turning them into babies, and kicking babies, we're going to run into ratings issues." Oh, come on! There's the ... and the ... okay, we can't really argue with that. It's also worth mentioning that Singularity's violence is edited on the show floor -- something about German censorship issues.

It's funny that you bring up South Park, cause they never really shied away from anything. Their reasoning behind it was that if you draw the line at one thing, the other things you make fun of seems like that's acceptable to do. But if you just make fun of everything, no one can say you're being malicious towards one thing or another.
I think they should've just left the ability to turn your enemy into a baby in there. And who said anything about kicking the baby? From what I understand the Activision rep is the one that brought that up. Why can't you just turn 'm into a baby and stick 'm in a closet. What's the baby going to do then? Why does Activision think you need to kick or kill the baby?
So are they trying to say if they had the abillity to age or un-age someone, they'd be ok with turning 'm into dust, but not ok with turning them into babies, cause they'd have the urge to kick a baby?
Sorry for the incoherent rant, I just woke up.

Because if you stick a baby in a closet, it will eventually "come out of the closet".
And that's a whole 'nother issue right there.

Ha! That's true. Mutant babies with tentacles with projectile-throwing tentacles, but babies nonetheless.

Isn't it obvious?
If you let us kick and beat babies in a game, we won't need to do it in real life now would we?
Why do people who don't play games have to spoil games for those who do?

Their reasoning seems incredibly ageist. That's like saying there's no females in the game because hitting them is bad. Call me when the babies of the world fight for equal rights. Censorship makes me sick. If I want to virtually pop a cap into a babies head I should be able to. That's my god given right.
What's the difference between killing a baby, and running over hundreds of people in GTA. F you ESRB you dictator punks.

I disagree with everything word you just typed on a fundamental level. I'm not even going to touch the female thing you threw in there, because it just makes no sense. As far as babies fighting for equal rights goes, I have simply this to ask. What the fuck?
The difference between killing a baby and a person is clearly non-existent to you, so providing a reason would be useless because you apparently lack the moral fibers that define a person as sane. That is all.

I tend to do whatever the fuck I want, and then say "It is all part of gods plan." If that includes killing babies, blame god for his shitty plan, not me.

Honestly, it makes more sense for the people to turn into "reverts" rather than children/babies anyway. Think about it. What is the definition of growing old (in technical, medical terms)? It's when your body's organs begin to weaken and, eventually, shut down -- a process that starts the moment we're born. The heart becomes weaker, the lungs inflate less easily, bones become brittle, skin changes color, muscles atrophy, etc. Eventually the organs can no longer support each other and the body shuts down. Once this happens, the effects of death set in and everything decays. So technically all this machine in the game does is speed up this process -- a very do-able prospect (we already do this manually by smoking, taking drugs like cocaine and meth, and even drinking).
However, to actually turn someone back into a child you would have to rebuild tissue, strengthen muscles, repair bone structures, actually decrease the size of the bones and organs, etc etc etc. Most of this isn't even remotely possible without simply replacing the organs, bones, etc, and even then the negative ramifications are impossible to predict.
So honestly, it just makes better sense to change the characters instead of reverse-age them. Granted, it could always be explained as just being future technology or something, like most games and movies do, but the point is that it's not like the game just doesn't make any sense now. It makes perfect sense.
And to D -- the one who says it's his/her "God given right" to kill whatever they want in the virtual world -- there are some things even a video game or movie should not approach, and video games are far from having anything to do with your rights, God given or not. Honestly, you strike me as someone who is dangerously close to losing touch with reality because of digital entertainment, and your comment about it being your right only solidifies the fact. You need to get your head out of the game for a while and get back in touch with the real world and things like ethics.

The difference between a baby and a normal person is literally just a number. What makes them different to you? Is it size? Is it because they've been built up as a picture of innocence? Of course they're innocent they're innocent. Retarded people are innocent too.
The social norms of killing babies need to stop. If babies had were smarter than chimps I'm sure they would also see that they should be treated as equals.
And the fact that you had to ask what I meant by fighting for babies equal rights shows you have the humor level of... well a baby. Do you giggle when people jingle keys in front of you? Everything I've written has been in a joking matter. Though seriously, it's a baby made of pixels. We've crossed the social norm of being able to slap around women in video games (since you didn't figure out the analogy hopefully that just cleared it up). If anything it would save on production value. Way less pixels per enemy if you ask me.
And let me ask you this: Would you kill Hitler as a baby? I mean obviously this game, you're not going around killing the most innocent of people here. You're killing bad guys. So what does it matter if you kill the bad guy adult, or the much more easy to kill bad guy baby? It's the same virtual person. They've got the same virtual DNA!

I said this (well something similar) on another post, if you want to kick babies then there should be ramifications. You kick a baby, the game takes away your weapons and makes everything within the game instantly want to destroy you into little pieces leaving you helpless whilst the mutilate you and the teabag you until you throw your controller across the room in a tantrum because "the games being unfair to me". The game then ends, deletes all saves for all games on your hard drive, resets your gamescore, and red rings your console (or whatever the equivalent is in other consoles). You will then have learnt not to kick babies. You continue on with your life never kicking a baby in any situation ever again.
If that happened then I'd be fine with it, as this doesn't then I'm fine with them putting in some restriction that means you don't get the opportunity to kick a baby.
Quit trying to be cool/controversial and start acting like a normal human being who deserves a place in society. Why do you think the governments of the western world hate gamers, because they apparently enjoy kicking babies. If you're going to moan about being treated unfairly stop acting like idiots. (aimed at anyone who feels that kicking babies is something they should do.)

Actually fred I wasn't joking. It was in a joking tone, that was the intention. But I meant every word of it (except the part about equal rights for babies). And Avatar, the difference between killing a virtual pixel baby and killing a virtual pixel person is literally no different (except less pixels, and a harder target depending on the overall speed of the baby in question).
Avatar you got me figured all wrong. I won't ever kill the dogs in CoD5, because... it's a dog. I'm just saying censorship of any level by anyone other than your parent shouldn't be allowed. ESRB shouldn't have the right to take out babies or dogs or anything else just because they disagree with the content. F you ESRB, and F you too Hillary Clinton.

of course there is a difference. maybe not to you but to children there is a difference.
as human beings we need restrictions and parents just are not capable of the job these days. they are more clueless as to what their child gets up to than 20 years ago when it was my parents who were clueless.
human beings cannot be trusted with anarchy

I think they should launch its game by keeping every aspect of the people that what the other think about that game because that negligence might raise some issues in the future regarding that particular issue which was left at the time of its launching so that it cannot create some sort of trouble in the future..................
