Rumor: GT5 listed for Q4 2009 release (update)

The time of arrival for Sony's gorgeous racer, Gran Turismo 5, has been one of gaming's greatest mysteries. However, if a recent pamphlet supposedly handed out at GamesCom 2009 is legit, this ancient riddle might just have a solution -- according to the leaflet, the game is coming in "4. Quartel 2009." Now, we don't exactly sprechen sie den Deutch, but we're fairly sure that translates to "Q4 2009."

A bare bones version of the game was demoed at GamesCom 2009, and it will most certainly be the belle of the ball at Tokyo Game Show 2009 -- but we're an impatient lot. We've contacted Sony to see if they can shed some light on the rumored brochure, and the sweet, sweet GT5 release date details contained therein.

Update: A SCEE representative confirmed the brochure is legitimate. However, considering recent trends, we still have our doubts on if Sony can deliver on such a (surprisingly) quick release.

One of the fellows here wrote a comment kill filter that allows you to filter out users by their profile ID. It works in Mozilla Fire Fox and works great for certain commenters.

Just in time for Forza.....4. In lesser hands I would be pissed it has taken this long, but Kaz Yamauchi cares so much about cars that I have no doubt this game Donnie Yen Forza 3. But until then I'll be playing Audi:The Game like everyone else.

Totally read that as Q4 "2010". That's why you don't work and read Joystiq at the same time. But, I highly doubt Q4 2009. Without damage they said 2010, and that was before they announced damage. I damage modeling that easy to write into the game that they finished ahead of schedule and coded damage into it to boot?

I don't know much about it but I believe the damage itself is physics based not animation based.

I've been trying to tell you guys since E3 that it was coming this year, and events over the last month have more or less confirmed it.

We'll probably have to wait until TGS to get the official confirmation.

Until you get paid outlandish amounts of money to make these predictions, I don't think Joystiq is going to write posts about them.

The Q4 release is the worst-kept 'secret' in the gaming industry. Polyphony Digital has told every gaming journalist on Earth "off-the-record" that it is coming.

The 8/14 Listen Up show had a hilarious segment where they were joking about this. "What are you driving at?"

Yeah I remember that episode haha. I'm surprised Sony tells them anything anymore after the PSP Go and now this, they're bad at keeping secrets.

Isn't that show Copa is referncing where you got the information? You even mentioned something to that effect the one time you said it would release this year. It's not as if you have been saying this over and over for a long time now.

but why keep it a secret? it's a game, that people want to buy. why would they keep it a secret up until TGS? wouldn't they want to tell the world about it before everyone spends their holiday money.

Yeah I used that show to back me up further, but like he said it was only a couple weeks ago. I've been saying since E3 that it's going to come by the end of the year, but I didn't have any physical proof of that.

The REASON GT5 hasnt gotten any big announcements is most likely because they are Pushing GT PSP big until Oct.1....a lot of people have thought that it was coming out this year tho...me myself, I was thinking that it would be out in Japan this year and the US & EU in January....hell "Quarter 4" could easily mean FISCAL 2009 in which case the game could come out right before God of War 3 and still be Q4 2009....

Sooner than later I hope tho...I believe that a 250GB PS3 Slim Bundle w/GT5 will sell HUGE

I am really interested in seeing just how much GT5 and Forza 3 sell. There will be a lot of competition for both titles and this time the competition is very diverse. I do believe that GT5 will sell very well but I am not sure if it will be the system seller a lot of PS3 people are saying.

If I was to go by the demo at gamercon, I would definitely say that GT5 will not be a system seller and that a Q4 release is pretty short period of time to get the game into Retail shape.

Forza was never a great seller so I do not expect it to be a great seller now. I believe Forza 2 sold a little over 2 mill and I am not sure if the bundle numbers add to that count.

While I'm 99% sure that GT5 will be announced at TGS for a december release, I wouldn't see that leaflet as "confirmation".

It's a pretty well known fact that the GT5 release date was scheduled to be announced at Gamescom (that's the reason for that leaflet) in the 3 hours sony conference that ended up being lil more than one hour. The feature list that appeared and then was pulled out of the GT5 official website stated clearly that "GT5 has been announced at Gamescom".

The fact that the announcement was canceled at the very last moment (but too late for withdrawing the leaflets) can easily mean that they decided to keep it for TGS, but might as well mean that the game will be delayed.

While personally, I think a 2009 release is by far the most probable option, we can't discount the possibility of a different conclusion.
