Capcom have revealed it will announce four new characters for the US and European release of Tatsunoko vs Capcom at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show. The four characters -- two from Capcom and two from Tatsunoko -- were teased to Gamespot at GamesCom by producer Ryota Niitsuma, but the game's producer would not name the additions. We're still holding out hope for some Phoenix Wright love, even though the fighting game's dev team claimed the character was once added but removed due to balance issues.
Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars adds animproved online mode, with skill level matchmaking allowing US and European players to face-off against gamers from around the world. A release date has yet to be revealed for the Wii-exclusive, but we're almost positive that whatever it is, it won't be soon enough.

If Phoenix Wright or Ammy (or Both) get in, I will buy this game.

Too many inconstancies in this story bother me, but I'm more bothered by the fact that they're announcing the added characters for the U.S./Euro releasing of the game at a Japan event .

Isn't this a bit of a middle finger to the japanese audience? Yes Capcom, let's announce information about the expanded NA/EU version of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom ... at the TOKYO game show. Unless Capcom is planning a re-release of the game with the added online components for the Japanese audience I just...don't see much of a point.

But then, wouldn't the Licensing issues for removing one of the Tatsunoko characters be non-existant. And thus they'd need to add 'another' Capcom character to keep the balance?

No, they just remove the genie character from the Japanese re-release, is all.
I suppose another option would be to leave him in the Japanese version and, in the event of world wide online play, have him show up as, like, a shadow character or something if someone in Japan uses him.

Samurai Pizza Cats...or Jesus. It could happen! Tatsunoko was the studio responsible for Superbook and the Flying House! Imagine: Anime Jesus vs. Ryu.

Yeah, as the intro might indicate, SPC was a total cheesefest. It helps to understand that when SPC was being localized, they didn't actually have the original script, so Saban's writers actually had to write their own episodes. It's part of the charm, at least for me.

Has to be part of a Japanese re-release. I mean, if Capcom didn't intend to re-release it, they had the perfect opportunity to announce the changes at GamesCom
