Cricket: Carried by the Ashes.

Wolfenstein: Carried by name.

Wii Sports Resort: Carried by Nintendo's burning desire to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

Why are we comparing the numbers for a Wii title to the combined numbers of a PS3/360/PC title?

I think the group that tracks software in the UK tracks titles two ways, one across platforms (where, say, FIFA is the best selling title of the year all the time probably), then one from single-platform

Hm maybe it's not such a crazy idea that Wolfenstein might beat or get close to Madden in the NPD's.

I don't understand all the Wolfenstein hate, from here or the general reviews. I loved the game-- bar the boss at the end who was bullshit. Apart from that it was great, certainly had a lot more fun with it then Resistance 2 or Killzone 2.

Oh and is that pic SERIOUSLY trying to say that Wolfenstein is ripping off Killzone :/

I haven't gotten to the end yet but you already know the final boss isn't going to be robo-hitler, so you can't really expect much.

Well you know how most of the game is relatively easy, even on hard? In the final boss level after no difficulty curve just becomes extremely punishing and frustrating.

I will say at least it's a nod to Wolfenstein 3D, but was still very badly designed IMO, rest of the game while quite easy, was still very fun and satisfying to go through.

It's still a pretty big win for Wii Sports, considering was produced at a small fraction of the cost of Wolfenstein.

And considering how long these first party wii games typically last on the top lists, I doubt its gonna stop selling anytime soon.

Was Wolfenstein very expensive? I don't expect Sports Resort was cheap to produce (ie I'm sure it cost less to make, but not sure just how small that fraction is) and the per-copy profit is much less when you take into account the accessory cost...

I thought the reviews were too hard on this game. I've been playing through it, and it's a good campaign. Reviewers like IGN bash it for not being particularly innovative, but a game doesn't have to be innovative to be good. I don't understand why they bitched so much about it not being a true open world game. Story driven campaigns, and first person shooters, don't work terribly well with open worlds imo, and in Wolfenstien the play may still be linear but you don't feel like you're just running from point a to point b all the way through.

Oh, and killing Nazi's is awesome. How could you not want to shoot Nazi's after seeing a movie like inglorious basterds?

Wolfenstein is really awesome on PC at least. Although it really didn't play well with the 360 controller I have at all though, so I can understand if console people may be misliking it.

Hey I think Wolfenstein was a step forward for WW2 themed shooters in that it didn't represent Germans as evil Nazis but instead the Nazis as evil Nazis. Your allies through the game are also Germans who are against the Nazi forces.

started at #8 in the german PC charts. But I guess it's just a fraction of germans buying wolfenstein because everyone is importing the game from the UK because it's way cheaper + no cencorship.
(german version has blood but thats all. the've cut all those SoF'ish gore-things and you'll see no swastikas. Still got an "18" rating.)

BTW I'm really enjoying this game. I espacially love balance on "uber" so far. If you're like me a fan of SoF I+II and Quake 4, then Wolfenstein is by far the best Shooter in 2009. I also have way more fun with this game than with Modern Warfare/World at War or Crysis.

Ehhhh Wolfenstein isn't quite THAT bad. But still, it is in every respect a very middling, mediocre game.

I'm not graphics obsessive, but sometimes the characters look so bad I wondered if I was playing a Quake 3 engine game. I wish I were joking. Bumpmapping is similarly overdone a la the Doom 3 era, and generally the graphics really feel like they were from 2005, not 2009.

Character design and art style is the same - lots of chunky space marine types (except they're Nazis!) with gigantic metal armor. Not much creativity at all, but this is neither here nor there.

Gameplay is where the game really falls flat. It's a competent shooter - and the action mechanics work really well. Combat is a lot of fun with the Veil powers... but there's no variety nor balance.

On the default difficulty there are these monkey creatures that can kill you with two swipes. I'm also currently in a level where you fight invisible Nazi assassin's. Cool concept, except Nazi assassin also kills with two hits - WHILE INVISIBLE. I gave up in frustration after 5 repeated tries where I just couldn't squeeze enough shots into the bastard before he got me, even though by then I'd memorized every damn scripted sequence in the battle.

Beyond the frustration, you really just fight the SAME Nazis over and over again. They all use the same guns, save for a handful of uber-soldiers here and there. There's a LOT of level repetition in the game's "town", which is a semi-open-world sort of thing where Nazis just respawn all the time. I guess they haven't really figured out that there's a badass roaming around town killing literally thousands of their buddies - 'cos they don't get any smarter or harder to fight. By the fourth time you return to town these battles are just annoying and get in your way.

Finally started playing Wolfenstein yesterday, it's absolutely amazing. Everything about it is well done.

A very solid entry not only to the Wolfenstein franchise, but to First Person Shooters in general.

If you haven't played this game, your excuse better be because you don't play First Person Shooters, because this game deserves to be played!

Wow.... that was kinda a desperate attempt at spin/flamebait even for joystiq.

Original article: Wii Sports regains the top after 2 weeks of ashes fever.. wii sports riding high... etc..

Joystiq translation: another mini-game fest on the wii is getting beaten by cricket... and almost by even wolfenstein.
