WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 dated, detailed
Other than a recent countdown offered by THQ, we haven't heard much about the publisher's next effort in its longtime wrestling franchise, WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010. Today though, THQ announced an October 20 release date for the game, along with a clear marketing push towards online play.
Nelo Lucich, a senior VP at licensor JAKKS Pacific, leads the charge, saying, "The vast array of creative and online options allow players the ability to create their own unique Superstars, right down to their tattoos and customized ring gear." He goes on to tout the game's "Community Creations interface" and other options for online play, remaining confident. And maybe he should be, considering the game's October release now has a much better chance of standing out in a delay-riddled holiday season than ever before.

I'm gonna pass this year unless they announce something truly awesome. I'll stick with 2008 until they do

I think the focus on tag teams last year made 2009 worth buying....
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Aug 24th 2009 11:39PM
Was it really that good Aggie? I love S v. R but tag team matches in single player have always sucked balls.
DamonTheMoney @ Aug 24th 2009 8:43PM
I don't know about other people, but I've never seen a wrestling game that was even remotely impressive. I will not be picking this up unless it works as well as FN:R4, that's where my expectations are for fights now.
VaultBoy @ Aug 24th 2009 10:53PM
That's sad because FNR3 was better. If you want full contact though, UFC is pretty good.

Try King of Coluseum.

wwe games have become the madden of wrestling games:( thats sad too.
bring on AKI
MC Double Def DP @ Aug 24th 2009 9:27PM
I miss AKI wrestling games. Also with SvR games you can never use your guy online if you customize them at all. I guess they're afraid of people making wrestlers with vulgar language and swastika tattoos.
xgarryx(warXroutine on LIVE and PSN) @ Aug 24th 2009 9:33PM
not to mention the lag online atrocious in the SvR games.
cafecito @ Aug 25th 2009 11:21AM
Talking bout AKI...me wants another Def Jam FFNY game. ICON was a mockery, sadly.

I need to no more if they want me to buy this new...otherwise I will do Like I did previous years....Gamefly it hold onto it for a few months til it hits $30 and then "Keep it"
Stevetrop @ Aug 24th 2009 8:48PM
My love for wrestling games has wained for the last past several years. They come with several spruces here and there but nothing really inspiring or inventive to the franchise to really make me want to come back in.
Von Dozier @ Aug 24th 2009 8:52PM
HCTP and SVR06 are the only SD games worth owning, and even playing. 07/08/09 are pretty trash.
hf1986 @ Aug 25th 2009 7:53AM
I did't even like SvR06. Completely removed the option of having female wrestlers in season mode, and the voice-overs limited the open-ended dialogue of HcTP. As far as I'm concerned, SvR06 was the beginning of the demise of THQ wrestling games.
xgarryx(warXroutine on LIVE and PSN) @ Aug 24th 2009 8:58PM
i wander if TNA will make another go at another game..id love to see some competition, or maybe a Ring of Honor game? i might be the only one here who knows who they are:(

Alton Brown [Planeteer | Power of Dueling Banjos] @ Aug 24th 2009 9:16PM
I don't watch wrestling. I'm just trying unsuccessfully to be funny.
Nerd Ferguson @ Aug 24th 2009 8:59PM
U struggle to differentiate one smackdown game from the next these days. I purchased and played the hell out of 07. I bought 08 and immediately took it back because it was just like 07. Other than new wrestlers/music/intro's...they don't really improve them enough for me to pay $60.
VaultBoy @ Aug 24th 2009 11:29PM
As a fan of the series I can say that you were right to return '08, I couldn't get into that one at all. There were some odd choices made with the fighting system, but '09 took care of some of them and added Create a Finisher, which was really cool. They also revamped the career mode to something more straightforward. For example, if you use a lot of weapons then your created wrestler will gain experience in the Hardcore category. It was much better than having to perform specific exercises to gain XP in only a single area. Overall I prefer '09 to '08. You could create some finishers that would kill a man.
B @ Aug 24th 2009 9:20PM
and nobody has cared since it became a annual franchise
xgarryx(warXroutine on LIVE and PSN) @ Aug 24th 2009 9:30PM
yeah not to mention the lag while playing:(
xgarryx(warXroutine on LIVE and PSN) @ Aug 24th 2009 9:34PM
errgh reply fail
Wildside @ Aug 24th 2009 9:51PM
Day of Reckoning 2 was the last, unique, n most fun of all the wrestling games imo. I wish for another wrestling game to be like that but for Wii only. A gamer can dream, can he?
Faceman @ Aug 24th 2009 10:53PM
fuck this.. someone needs to release No Mercy 2!!
Ry @ Aug 24th 2009 11:42PM

The new Design a Story-Mode sounds interesting at least, but we have very little information on it, and going by the vague scraps we do have, it sounds like they've handled it completely wrong.. But we'll see.
As far as I'm concerned, no GM mode, no purchase.
It was the one mode that gave the game real replayability, and even as someone who hasn't watched wrestling since I was 14, you could still enjoy it. There decision to remove the mode, and replace it with more story modes.. is mind boggling. I've never seen a developer completely fail to understand their audiance like this before.
Comet @ Aug 25th 2009 9:55AM
More story modes is much needed. After 1 play through in story mode you get the exact same story's your next time through. Well besides HCTP.
Duffin @ Aug 25th 2009 1:13PM
You know...I actually hated GM Mode. I personally don't like those types of games. Some people do, but not everyone does. Keep in mind that just because you like a feature doesn't mean EVERYONE does too. If everyone did, it wouldn't have been removed (probably. This is THQ we're talking about). I am VERY looking forward to seeing this Design a Story-mode. I might not have to imagine anymore as to why the two guys are wrestling in the ring during Exhibition matches. On the other hand, it may end up less than how they describe it as is what usually happens when SvR introduces a new feature in the game.
Snowblind @ Aug 25th 2009 1:41PM
Obviously not everyone cares about GM mode. Typically, people either enjoyed story mode, or GM mode. But we now have THREE story modes, Road to Wrestlemania, Career and Create-a-Story. Is that enough to keep you guys happy?
GM mode recieved minimal improvements each year, and most of them actually made the mode worse.. introduction of personality stats slowed the mode down to a snails pace, the third brand meant you always had to go up against a CPU player instead of just a friend.. etc. Then they cut the mode entirely.
If they aren't trying to make the game appeal to people like me, that's fine. I'll happily continue not buying the games, and hope the trend of poor sales carries on until they lose the liscence, and pass it on to a competent developer.
nevin1 @ Aug 25th 2009 3:46PM
The last good wrestling game was 2003's Here Comes The Pain. and i'm with hf1986, well i didnt hate Smackdown Vs Raw 2006, but it was the begining of the downfall of the series for me. hated 07, didnt buy 08. Bought PS3 Aug 18 2008 downloaded 09 demo and whats up with right stick only controls?
Also why is THQ still using the PS2 engine for the 360/PS3 versions?
All that money they made on this series and they cant use it towards an actual next version of a WWE game?
Praxis @ Aug 26th 2009 10:40PM
Career mode is not really a story mode.
