Dress up your Avatar with these Mass Effects
BioWare's Pinnacle Station DLC for Mass Effect landed this morning on Xbox Live, and along with it came a mess of new Avatar items to play dress up with clothe your virtual self. The 14 items range in price from 80
($1) to 320
($4) and encompass everything from regular ol' t-shirts to full-on (and terribly adorable) N7 Armor.
With the sudden appearance of the new DLC on Xbox Live, the premium theme that went up for sale yesterday, and all this new Avatar accoutrement, all we need now is a downloadable Mako in which to drive our virtual friends around.

the DLC is awful enough, don't make things worse by buying virtual clothes with no value.
Temidien @ Aug 25th 2009 11:51AM
Your comments always make me chuckle. Never in a good way.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 11:51AM
I'm sure thousands of jerks already did. Considering how disgunstingly overpriced this stuff is still releasing for...
Obie @ Aug 25th 2009 1:34PM
Ya know I agree, but I am afraid that when they come out with the Modern Warfare 2 packs I might crack...and of course if there were a Bat costume....
tomrslever @ Aug 25th 2009 11:50AM
I'm still looking forward to the day my avatar will be able to show his naked body, along with the many staggering and debilitating STD's he's collected from shady 1 v 100 matches.
brad77 @ Aug 25th 2009 1:32PM
Your avatar's probably a eunuch. If they don't render your avatar's toes (try putting sandals on it), they probably don't bother with his junk.
And if you want shady, try UNO late at night on a weekend.
Temidien @ Aug 25th 2009 11:50AM
That N7 armor is too classy to pass up.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 11:53AM
I guess you also passed up that lesson your momma gave you about the value of a dollar....
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Aug 25th 2009 12:08PM
Let it go whlyekat... sheesh.
AvA (ice~) @ Aug 25th 2009 12:34PM
holy shit you people are so serious about hating these avatar clothes. if people want to buy them LET THEM. it's not any of your problem, I can't quite understand how so many people get so worked up over these things, just don't buy em and don't complain.
David @ Aug 25th 2009 12:57PM
whylekat: isn't it downright frightening when people get to choose how to spend their own money? I mean, geez, free choice, what's THAT all about?
tabicat @ Aug 25th 2009 1:03PM
AvA (ice~): the problem is that the more that people buy these things, the higher the price will get. The reason we have 1200-point Arcade games is because people are paying that much money. If everyone refused to pay more than 800 points, then that would be how much all Arcade games cost.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 1:35PM
Yes Tabicat. Thank you!
People can spend their hard earned money on whatever they want. But we are ALL getting ripped off big time by these avatar micro transactions.
I like the marketplace, it's a great idea, but it's a serious jip that could possibly be avoided.
Repeat: I AM NOT UPSET AT HOW PEOPLE SPEND THEIR MONEY..
What upsets me about all this is we're getting the shaft and majority are totally content with that. Getting prices DOUBLED on us should be a serious realization for a lot of you as to how bad this is already becoming.
baby sea tuna @ Aug 25th 2009 1:42PM
Solution: quit gaming and find a new hobby. It's only going to get worse from here.
JNub @ Aug 25th 2009 11:53AM
i love mass effect so more missions is cool, managed to get bring down the sky for 400points which was great value,
tmacairjordan87 @ Aug 25th 2009 11:56AM
Bring down the sky was pretty good, but this is horrible. It's not even a mission, and it doesn't appear to have any impact on the story of ME 1 or 2. It really is just a bunch of VR missions, like in metal gear solid.
Bioware said it was gonna be an arena like in most wrpgs, but it's clear this isn't an arena.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 11:57AM
Oh that was dumb.. For the SAME PRICE you could've bought a Lightsaber or Warthog RC car for your avatar! Or a whole new outfit!! Note: All these items have ZERO interactivity.
Why would you buy a new mission to play when you can make your avatar look cool?
/S!! Ugh!!!!

Latin_Trident @ Aug 25th 2009 11:56AM
I will have to wait to read a review now about the dlc before I purchase.
CodeMonkey76 @ Aug 25th 2009 12:06PM
I have to ask...
Why didn't they add Colossus X armor? (best armor in the game, IMO)
Why didn't they add weapons as accessories?
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:09PM
I believe Microsoft has said that weapons can't be included in the Avatars. The lightsaber probably got away with it because it's glowy and non-gun looking.
NeoK-182 @ Aug 25th 2009 12:20PM
yeah i wanted that armor too. though i guess the default stuff makes sense.
I just bought the crew shirt. I would of bought the helmet to go with the COG armor but it only comes in white. should of made the black one.
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 25th 2009 12:47PM
i thought the colossus armor was okay but the padding was too pink and not red. I prefer the Titan or Predator stuff, the gray and black camo, looks pretty sweet.
cknblade @ Aug 25th 2009 1:40PM
Predator M X for my infiltrator + Garrus, the green version of the Rage X armor for Wrex. Badass.
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:09PM
I really wish some of you people would get off of your high opinions of yourself, and your obvious sense of what is "right" and "wrong", and let people do what they want.
What one man considers junk, another considers treasure. Either way, it doesn't affect YOU, so suck it up, monkeylungs.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 12:12PM
It affects us all buddy.. DLC for games or avatars will only get more expensive due to these high priced items selling.
CannabisPrime @ Aug 25th 2009 12:41PM
If people continue to buy avatar gear then the price might go up, true.
But if you aren't buying it anyway, what do you care if it gets more expensive?
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 1:00PM
Because i definetly would buy it if it wasn't so expensive!!
nasalbaton @ Aug 25th 2009 1:20PM
Chill pills. Is some dlc expensive? yes. Is some cheap? yes. Is some worth it? yes. Is some not worth it? yes. The bottom line is dlc is here to stay no matter what it's worth and people will buy it. If you don't want to buy it, then don't buy it, but don't judge others for buying something they like and are whiling to put money down for(it's their choice. a random persons opinion isn't going to change theirs). Also note - These avatar items will have more value when more avatar games come out. The avatar marketplace right now does seem kind of ridiculous, i agree considering you can't do anything with the items, all you do is look at yourself. But I am not gonna bash people for buying items they personally like. Hek I bought a q-tip(my tag is nasalbaton - i had no choice;)). In the future I'm sure things will change for the better(interactive items..hopefully), with more avatar games coming out and what not.
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:15PM
Well, you hate the avatar marketplace anyway, so why do you care if the items there get more expensive?
As far as DLC goes, I've seen them run all prices for various things. Let's face it, if Microsoft wants to charge you more for something, they're going to regardless of whether you've dressed your virtual doll up or not.
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:17PM
That was supposed to be a reply to WhyleKat. I'd blame it on Joystiq, but it was totally my fail.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 12:31PM
Ugh I don't hate the avatar marketplace!! I hate the ridiculously expensive prices! A pirate outfit or lightsaber should not cost the same price as an XBLA game! It's that simple. We are all getting ripped off paying these prices.
Look at the guitar hero avatar stuff as a perfect example. It came out priced somewhat moderatly but then like an hour later they DOUBLED it all! That's f'ed up dude. And it's what we ALL get to look forward to if everyone keeps buying this stuff.. It's terrible now, it'll only get worse.
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:35PM
did not know that about the Guitar Hero stuff. Rather bogus.
I'll concede to your point that this stuff IS expensive, and should
NOT cost as much as it does. But, will that stop me from buying
something that I like, and decide is worth it? Most likely not.
Sometimes I'd rather have something stupid and amusing over whatever
arcade game is out.
The Dark Wayne @ Aug 25th 2009 12:48PM
i agree with whley, but honestly, even if every gamer on joystiq boycotted it. there are still gonna be thousands of the same kind of noobs who ask gamestop employees if 360 games can be played on xbox one buying them by the masses
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:51PM
That's sad, but very true. We're a vocal gaming minority, but we're still a minority.
Rudy van DiSarzio, Jazz fusion guitarist. @ Aug 25th 2009 12:55PM
@whylekat
Let people decide what to do with their money. If you don't like the prices, don't buy em.
Shut up already.
Snowblind @ Aug 25th 2009 1:25PM
I don't see what the massive problem is here, yes it's pointless, but is it any different from the majority of DLC you see out there? I don't see anyone kicking up this kind of fuss for LBP and that's just as bad.
Sure, there's not really any use for the avatars at the moment, but when more games start supporting them, it's nice to be able to stand out a little. Have you never bought DLC for a game, or a collectors edition of anything that comes with some cool free stuff.. even though it doesn't really do anything?
My only issue is with the prices, if they were cheaper, I'd have a much easier time spending left over points and a few odds and ends that I think look nice. But as it is, it's a pretty serious investment. As much as I'd love to look like a Clone Trooper, the points are better spent else where. But if other people want to spend their money on it, let them.
whylekat @ Aug 25th 2009 1:41PM
@ Snowblind & Everyone else.
I want all this dumb avatar stuff just as much as anyone else. But the prices are wayyy too high. And that's the problem, that's my complaint.
I'm not saying don't buy them ever.. Just don't buy them at these prices!
Duke @ Aug 25th 2009 2:30PM
I don't understand why everyone is so hostile when he speaks up about the pricing. You scream that he should shut up and you have the freedom to buy what you want, but leave out that he too has the freedom to have opinions about it. Save the anger for something worthwhile.
Vcize @ Aug 25th 2009 7:18PM
It's because he's being an idiot. It's one thing to say that you think the prices are too high, it's a complete different thing to call people idiots for buying it because he doesn't want to pay that much.
I think the prices are too high as well, but I'm not going to call people stupid for paying them. If people are paying that much for them, then obviously they're priced right as far as profits are concerned. MS's goal here is to find a price point that makes the most money based on supply and demand, not to lose money just for the sake of pissing everyone off by pricing them too highly.
You know what else I think is too expensive? Ferrari's. If they were 60-70k, I would buy one. But I can't, because people will pay 150k+ for them. That doesn't mean that I think anyone that pays 150k for a Ferrari is a jerk.
You know what else I think is ridiculously overpriced? If people weren't willing to pay 5x as much for it as for a house in a normal location, I would buy some. But that doesn't mean I think that anyone who buys waterfront property has a "momma who didn't teach them the value of a dolla".
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 8:37PM
Well said Vcize. Thank you sir.
Angus @ Aug 25th 2009 12:15PM
My issue with these Avatar items is that they keep releasing them on a DLC basis, but when you check out the awards for owning / completing the games, there is very few or there isn't any at all.
RandomZero @ Aug 25th 2009 12:20PM
There's, what, 'Splosion Man? I agree with you here. Playing "dress up" would be far more worthwhile if it was free.
Todd @ Aug 25th 2009 1:22PM
My issue with the xbox avatars is that they just look so flamboyantly gay.
tenor77 @ Aug 25th 2009 2:48PM
The avatar is a reflection of you so I guess yours would look gay. Mine doesn't.
reversecycology @ Aug 25th 2009 12:17PM
I can't wait for more games to use Avatars in games like a Mass Effect. Just look at the picture, looks hella cool, lol.
p_ABSO @ Aug 25th 2009 12:17PM
Where is the DLC that makes my Mii go away replaced by something considerably less juvenile.
Rhamsey @ Aug 25th 2009 12:39PM
Fuck, I said I would never buy something from the avatar market place, but its Mass Effect, and they look awesome. If only they were unlocks for beating the dlc.
trickfred @ Aug 25th 2009 1:09PM
I was coming here to say the same thing. I beat the DLC 10 minutes ago, and was left totally underwhelmed. Some free avatar stuff might have made me feel like I hadn't just wasted $5.
Petebot330 @ Aug 25th 2009 12:56PM
God damn, was hoping it was an avatar award. Really stupid.
