Namco continues to satisfy Android's gaming needs

With all of the attention being paid to the iPhone gaming market, it's easy to forget that Android likes to play games, too. Namco hasn't, though, today releasing four games that the likes of Data, the Buffybot and V.I.C.I. from Small Wonder should enjoy. (What? They're for phones running Google's Android OS? Oh.)
Following in the non-footsteps of its freebie Pac-Man release that hit alongside the T-Mobile G1 last September, Rolling with Katamari, Inspector Gadget (yep, that guy), and twoBrain Age brain training games are now available on the Android Market. It doesn't sound like they'll be the last of their breed, either, with Namco Networks VP of sales and marketing, Scott Rubin, promising that the subsidiary "will continue to bring a broad range of exciting titles to users through the Android Market."

Me too. My instinct told me to stay away from phones called Instrict which was proven fairly safe so far.

That book was awesome. I still have to see Blade Runner.
Any other movies you (yes, you!) think I should see? I'm compiling a list.

A movie I would say has somewhat the same feel to it is the 1987 film Brazil.

I've been an iPhone user for about 2 years now. Last month I went to T-Mobile to try their service for 14 days. Their cellphone services were priced quite nicely and I really wanted to try out the G1. After 2 friggin years of touch screen madness and a closed OS, it was so nice to finally have a physical keyboard and an OS that was open to mess with.
However, that is were the fun ended. Outside of the fantastic OS and the physical keyboard, the G1 was one gigantic piece of dog crap compared to the iPhone. The phone literally died in 4 hours after a full charge. I went online and was told that was a common problem but could be remedied if I "just" shut off the Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G network. FUCK THAT NOISE. My iPhone does all that and more and still gives me a full day's worth of juice.
Anyway...ummm...what was the question? Oh yes. IT'S 4AM! WHY AM I NOT SLEEPING?!

I guess you need to direct your attention to this:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/a-closer-look.html ( htc hero -- android core )
btw battery lasts a good 12 hours on htc g1, I dont know what firmware you used but they updated the firmware and the battery life is very good now. If you sit there and browse the web for 4 hours straight, your battery will die but thats the same with iphone as well.. Ive had a g1 for a while now there is no way I would take an iphone over it.

im on my second instinct actually . the screen is all uncalibrated no matter how may times i recalibrate it,and if there where games for it that would make it a nightmare, i just wanna be able to listen to local radio onit:( i cant get iheart radio-) the android is a great phone but tmobile is not ideal for a carrier here in louisiana. they have the worst signal strength, but the phone is built well.
my next phone will be a blackberry. at least i can play decent games on it.

That "free" pac-man never worked for me. I got the G2 and whenever you tried to download pac-man it said that I couldn't download it because I hadn't purchased it. Apparently it was a common issue. And now it's not free.
The only one of these new games that sounded good was Katamari. Then I saw the reviews. It has 2/5 stars and is apparently in isometric view. The trackball isn't even used as a control.
I wish Android got games like the iPhone. Fortunately I have an iPod Touch, but still my top game on Android is Solitaire. Really I have no clue what Android is capable of with 3d graphics etc because the games are all pretty weak. At least there's the NES emulator.

hey where are you finding your reviews for these games (like katamari)? i have trouble finding android reviews, i guess because its still a relatively new platform. there are alot of great games on android, but it just doesn't have the push of major developers. i'd love to see how these namco games look before buying them.

Games on android are coming along slowly but surely. I think we'll see more once there are more devices on the market. Right now developers are putting all their resources to the iphone because of the install base.
I was gonna grab Katamari while I waited for my car to get worked on yesterday, but the reviews turned me off. It's cool.. give me a good puzzle game or two on my phone and I'm happy. I'm content with my DS for more in depth portable gaming.

How do you guys find it on the market? I don't see it there, searching for "katamari" turns up nothing, "Namco" turns up the pacman free/paid versions, and doing "view more applications" from the namco that put up pac-man only returns the two pac man games

Help me! : It looks like Namco may have pulled the games off the market. I can no longer find them either, and they don't appear on cyrket.com. I stumbled on them yesterday just browsing all games by date.
Hopefully this means they are going to fix the issues people were complaining about in Katamari.. because I'd really like to try that out.

An HTC dreaming it was an iPhone? Only if it's suffering from dementia or slight retardation! Android looks good and the dev community is really getting into the swing. I will still go for WinMobile 6.5 though, hasn't let me down yet and each successive build gets better and better. You couldn't pay me to get an iPhone!
And Gaming?....Emus FTW!

Katamari for Android is pathetic. It uses a 3/4ths isometric view and you tap the screen to control the Prince in a very small environment. I played it for about an hour before refunding it. Considering the platform is capable of 3D accelerated graphics, this is a pretty half-assed effort on Namco's part.
