PS3 motion games: Dual wanding not required
Did Dirty Harry ever need a second Model 29 to mop up the streets? No sir. Likewise, you'll get by just fine with one PS3 motion controller on your person. "We are approaching the launch [of the PlayStation motion controller] by making sure that all games that we create can be played with one controller and the camera," Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida assured penny-pinching purchasers during a recent interview with Eurogamer.
Of course, adding a second motion controller to your loadout could really make the magic happen: "It's like putting your arms into the TV, like a gaming space, and you have total control of the 3D space in front of you," Yoshida described of the experience of dual wanding.
Woah. Did anyone else just feel that? For a second there we were totally transported into the fourth dimension.

Dual or not, I want it!
David @ Aug 25th 2009 4:06PM
*gasp*
There can only be one!
FreshJulius @ Aug 25th 2009 5:51PM
Dual or dual not, there is no try!
David @ Aug 25th 2009 4:05PM
what about two arms?
Ordeith @ Aug 25th 2009 4:56PM
Natal style.
Rocks @ Aug 25th 2009 4:09PM
I'm hoping for some light gun style games that will allow for 2 wands at once...
i might be in the minority here, but i'm one of those people that pay extra and use both light guns at the same time in the arcade... it's the only way I can beat Time Crisis... without resorting to endless quarters of course.
David @ Aug 25th 2009 4:11PM
i'm with you, except that holding your arms out for an extended period of time SUCKS. this is an issue that the motion wand and natal are both going to have to contend with, and i'm very interested to see their answers.
mahouneko @ Aug 25th 2009 11:51PM
@Rocks:
That sounds like complete BS. Using both guns at the arcade for Time Crisis? Do you even understand what you just said? I can accept House of the Dead 4 because it IS physically possible with how the machine is set up but not Time Crisis, not ANY of the Time Crisis arcade machines.
Rocks @ Aug 26th 2009 6:28AM
it's not hard, put one pedal down, shoot with the other, switch....
i know... two things at once!! WOW!
who woulda thought!
Gaymer @ Aug 25th 2009 4:09PM
Blah!
Solace (Only on PSN) @ Aug 25th 2009 4:09PM
I honestly see this ending up as the Eye Toy did. A few crappy games and Sony will stop supporting it all together.
David @ Aug 25th 2009 4:13PM
Lets hope your wrong
Rob S. @ Aug 25th 2009 4:28PM
Yeah, I think that Sony's (And Microsoft's) main audiences will not go for motion control as much as they think they will, and they will not easily take Nintendo audience away from them. Natal seems like a fine user interface, but I just can't see playing games with it.
Maulok @ Aug 25th 2009 4:37PM
I agree with you. I expect both Natal and whatever PS3's is called will have one game each that is somewhere between killer app and tech demo, and after a few niche followup games on Live/PSN, nobody will develop for it again.
Jerses @ Aug 25th 2009 5:40PM
fear not! Nintendo wii already break that barrer. Also you have the PStore a great way to sell mini games for the pswand (lol)
What need support is the other XMB functions like playing your own music and take snapshots of games...the app is already there for devs but i think they ignore those amazing features.
ximena79 @ Aug 25th 2009 4:13PM
dude at first the guy who was testing it in e3 looked like a queer, but he turned out to be a very funny guy
*tickle tickle tickle*

Please grow up, and/or throw yourself off a cliff. *tickle tickle tickle
unboring @ Aug 25th 2009 5:52PM
ximena79? were you really born in 79? cause i for a 30 year old man you really act like a 12 year old boy.
"looked like a queer"? thanks for spreading your poison all over my joystiq. go fuck yourself with the pswand.
ximena79 @ Aug 25th 2009 6:16PM
Im sorry i should have specified when in e3(the demonstration of the motion sensor ps3) there were 2 guys and one looked outta place, but he turned out to be an all right guy and pretty funny. The tickle tickle tickle is when he used the wands thing to lightly tap on the enemies chin and he went "tickle tickle tickle" i am sorry for posting a childish comment, and im gonna take it like a man and accept the 1 star
ximena79 @ Aug 25th 2009 6:19PM
I thought u people would have understood y i put tickle tickle tickle but i understand its my fault now
*not gonna through myself off the cliff but i will act like a man and respect the 1 star*

What a terrible picture
Markez @ Aug 25th 2009 4:14PM
Dual wanding... Great possibilities there I think.
Baalzak @ Aug 25th 2009 4:45PM
Your mom's great at dual-wielding.
Dirty @ Aug 25th 2009 4:52PM
Markez why is that you always attract the dumb ones?
Saihna @ Aug 25th 2009 6:44PM
I, personally giggled at that man's immature comment. :P
Ashitaka @ Aug 25th 2009 4:15PM
The word 'dual' immediately makes me think of the dual lightsaber or double-bladed lightsaber that darth maul wielded :P
I sure would like a game that used the wands like that.
Jack Tretton @ Aug 25th 2009 4:15PM
"[A]dding a second motion controller to your loadout could really make the magic happen..."
...especially to Sony's profit margin.
Rob S. @ Aug 25th 2009 4:26PM
Hiyo!
Tridrakious @ Aug 25th 2009 4:26PM
On November 6th the EyeToy sold 10.5 million units since it's release in 2003.
21 stand alone games were released for it and 36 games supported the functionality of the camera.

They're listing the day they were born, or the day they will die...
Scary.
Jinsenken @ Aug 25th 2009 10:49PM
So either Tridrakious was born less than a year ago, or he's dead already.
Either way, I agree with Ashitaka.

Crayfish @ Aug 25th 2009 4:32PM
The term Dual Wanding makes me instinctively think of a Harry Potter porn parody.
tsendspam @ Aug 25th 2009 4:38PM
If they are going to give the option of dual wanding then they should give you 2 for the price of one. Seems silly not to especially when you showed it in your demo. The need to give these away with games or they will not catch on. At least thats what I think. Wii has conquered this market and to not give them away would seem to end up as a gimmick.
Robert @ Aug 25th 2009 4:39PM
So does this mean that Natal supports 'Dual Fisting'?
Robert @ Aug 25th 2009 4:42PM
Oops - meant to be reply to crayfish.
Mo @ Aug 25th 2009 6:40PM
this has nothing to do with natal lol
Robert @ Aug 25th 2009 9:53PM
Yeah, I know - the connection is the porn.
Ausohoj @ Aug 25th 2009 4:47PM
Whew. Now i only need to give sony half of the price i was planning on paying. Thanks! And for the record, i freaking loved eyetoy.
sc00by_y00 @ Aug 25th 2009 4:52PM
This means one thing and only one thing the cheap bastards will only bundle one controller and possibly the eye at $50-60 probably the single controller will cost about the price of a dual shock 3.. Im annoyed now, they should still bundle 2 of them together.
Lucky @ Aug 25th 2009 5:32PM
Screw you for hypothetically punching me!
Hydrophobicfish (PSN: HydrophobicFish) @ Aug 25th 2009 4:52PM
Dual wanding may not be required, but it still totally badass. Especially if you're riding atop a Lamborghini.

Mr Khan @ Aug 25th 2009 4:53PM
I figured as much. Sony was just doing that to show the capabilities of it, not necessarily as a practical application.
Still kinda something i would like to see. They also need to do this on Wii.
