Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 has sold 700,000 in the land of g'days and kiwis, with the green eye of the console fixing its gaze on a million sales by Christmas. According to Gamespot, the company's manager for Australia and New Zealand labeled the console as the fastest growing in the region -- not dissimilar to statements made by US execs about their own region.
The company didn't hint at any price or console changes for the Xbox 360 in the region. Execs are "confident" that they'll reach the million goal with the "console's current price point."

I think it refers to the bird and not the fruit. In fact, the cricket team are called the Kiwis also.

Our cricket team is the 'White Caps'. Kiwi is just a generic slang team for any New Zealander (like Yank is an American, Aussies are Australians and so forth).
For what it's worth, there are a few things that could get sales up down here.
Firstly they could make the games cheaper (rather then $50-$60, games here are $65-$95usd).
2nd - Make comunity games avalable down here. We can make them, publish them, but not buy them? WTF?!
3rd - Movies. Music. Here. Now.
Lastly - Seriously. Fix the price of games.

Let me assure you Paul, that New Zealand is not considered 'Down Under" by either Australians or New Zealand. They are two completely different countries.
And a Kiwi would not like to be considered as someone from "Down Under". They have their own, very proud indigenous history from South Pacific islands (Samoa Tonga etc) plus British colonization.

By the way, it's pretty rare hearing that term thrown about down under these days.
