The PS3 version of Ghostbusters was largely criticized for its inferior performance compared to the Xbox 360 version. Developer Terminal Reality told Joystiq, "The PS3 version ... is softer due to the 'quincunx' antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version." 25% fewer pixels? Unacceptable!
Atari is promising to redress the differences between the two platforms with a new patch for the PS3 version which is supposedly available right now. According to the Atari press release, the patch will offer an "increase in resolution to match that of Xbox 360" while offering "numerous other localization fixes."
Additionally, the Trophies for the game have been fixed. A glitch – caused when players from Europe and America played with each other – prevented the "Pay Day" and "Capture All Most Wanted Ghosts" Trophies (and subsequently, the game's mandatory Platinum) from unlocking properly. If bustin' ghosts with your international pals makes you feel good, it might be time to fire up Ghostbusters again.

Sadly, I didn't enjoy this game as much as I thought I would... traded it in just yesterday for Arkham Asylum, and thanks to the awesome price in Canada, I paid just $10 for it!
I may pick this up again someday when it's in the bargain bin.

So has the resolution been increased WITHOUT a frame rate drop too?
That's the important part !

You guys see now?! Yeessh! People bash the PS3 saying it is "inferior" because Game A looks better on 360. It's not about the hardware it is about the laziness of the developer/publisher. I worked QA on a particular game (coming out soon) and the 360 version is WAY ahead of the PS3 version in terms of graphics - why? Because everyone there tells all the QA to focus on the 360 version and the developers spend most of their resources trying to get the 360 version perfect. Weird right?

No. It's that it takes longer to get similar results on the PS3.

It's a tad too late, I sold the game weeks ago.
Actually though, this kind of laziness should not be happening at all in the first place.
If they got off their arses and actually delivered a game that is upto spec on their first go, then a lot more people would be happy.

this just goes to show how lazy this devs are starting to get, with bug fixes, and constant updates (for both systems) and now visual downgrades, whats next, well just buy the disc and they'll make the game playable in the months after it ships.
i know im being over dramatic, but this is a trend that im not liking at all.

I give props to Atari for correcting what their mistakes. It should have been the same from the beginning, but I don't consider it too late even though I do not own the game.

This is really good news although I echo concerns of a previous comment-- was it done without any framerate drops?
Also, has anyone thought about what happens in a few console generations when all these patches and such go offline for good? I don't expect Sony (or MS or Nintendo) will see it in their cold, stony corporate hearts to keep servers up to send out updates for games that are 5-10+ years old... what happens if your PS3 breaks in 2014 and when you get a new one, the patches were never installed? At least for PC games you can burn CDs with patches (and older console games didn't get patches) but it'd be nice to see some sort of offline storage be made available. Maybe towards the end of a console's lifespan when the copy protection/etc era is a little less critical (I assume a reason you can't get them through a PC is so hackers can't easily examine them-- although I also assume not many would bother) it'd be nice to see companies release patches through their website with some sort of offline loading mechanism.
While I'm dreaming, maybe I should ask for a pony, too.

I kinda like this. :o) at least they are not crying that the PS3 is too hard to develop for. Look, they can even make graphic looks better later on. Glad to know that there are more developers out there who know how to make more than one type of game and one type of system.

Has anyone actually tried this patch and seen any difference in visual quality? Or are we still doing the whole console war thingy.

there's a bit of revisionist history. The developers said themselves that the PS3 version was the reference platform. It was not a port from the 360 version. The 360 version was developed separatey.

Gamefly sent me both versions and I definately noticed the difference.. and that is all I am going to say about it.

It's disappointing that they put this in after the game's release and most of the hype for it has died down, but how many companies actually do this post-release? Most of the time when there's an inferior PS3 version, developers say, "Oh well, sorry, we have your money anyway" and do nothing about it.

Anyone who can't tell the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions is either blind, or a fanboy.
The 360 version is noticeably superior, with better resolution, shadows, particle effects, fewer z-fighting glitches AND a better frame-rate. Go and see Digital Foundry for a technical analysis.
Hopefully this patch helps a lot. But I wouldn't get my hopes up, not when a key dot point of the patch is "localizations" instead of, say, "better performance".

Well, I hate to break it to you guys but this "patch" did absolutley jack for the graphics. Everything still looks fuzzy and white washed, the texture work still looks blurry as do most of the other effects. In fact I noticed that during the game start up (at the fire house) the game now flickers/pops at the top of the screen. Also when your in the continue/start new campaign selection in side the fire house the Ecto 1 is badly pixelated and the floor textures seems to pop in clearer and then go fuzzy again. All in all this made things worse in my opinion. I would love to hear if anyone else noticed anything different.

Thanks for your telling us.
I aint going to trust Atari again...
They said that it was going to be identical to the 360 version....
I'm glad I waited for a confirmation on this before I decided wether or not to buy it.
I'm definitely not going to buy it.
I was really looking forward to this patch and thought it might really improve the graphics. But it seems that it was all a lie. Shame on them...

75% resolution = 33% less pixels actually.
