Don't fret -- Quantic Dream founder David Cage isn't planning on charging you for the ending to the studio's upcoming Heavy Rain. In a recent interview with VideoGamer.com, Cage explained that the game's eight to ten hour story was "a self-contained experience," but that Quantic is "talking with Sony at the moment about having maybe extra downloadable content, maybe with prequels or sequels about the characters." He added that players will most likely "get attached to some of them and will want to know them even better."
We don't doubt Quantic Dream's proven ability to tell captivating stories, but we have one qualm with this statement -- what if all our characters get offed by the Origami Killer? Sure, the prequels could ostensibly still work, but sequels starring corpses probably wouldn't be that interesting.

I'd be happy with just the game for right now. So make THAT happen. Then we'll talk DLC.

I'm not sure how your comment is related in anyway to my comment but thank you for the email! That was kind of you.
But now in relation TO your comment, DLC means extra. It doesn't mean mandatory. (Actually it means Downloadable Content but thats beside the point). Because of this weird dynamic, the nickel and diming is really only if you want to be nickle and dimed. If the DLC is worth it, I would gladly pay a nominal fee to enjoy some extra work by what might as well be an indie company making good games.
In closing, if you don't like, don't buy it. TADA!

The problem with DLC is that it's too often not something extra, but something that could've shipped with the game. DLC originally was portrayed as this 'extra' content that was developed after the game was shipped.
Now you have companies like Namco and Capcom shipping content on the disk like characters in SC4 or multiplayer modes in RE5, and making you pay to download an unlock key for something that would've been included for free less than 5 years ago.
Or you have something like Gears 2 selling multiplayer maps less than 6 weeks after they shipped a broken and still unpatched multiplayer mode (at the time, although it took months before they started 'fixing' things that never should've shipped).
It's ridiculous.
I'm all for FREE DLC, or worthwhile updates that come out after a reasonable distance from the release date. Or at least be upfront about what you're doing as Konami did with MGS4's multiplayer.
Some people have become so Pavlovian, that they clamor for DLC, like they demand to be ripped off for a few extra bucks with each release. It didn't used to be this way and it's pathetic.

Yeah, because developers supporting their game even after release is SO lame. Idiot.

Seeing as this is the first console generation to support DLC....I don't remember it happening.

I wish more games would do this kind of thing. Not necessarily prequels or sequels, but DLC with a lot of content. I was honestly expecting a lot of DLC for inFamous and got nothing, big disappointment.

Not really. Why would you even expect it from the start if you knew it wasn't going to be in there? Idiot.

I'm interested to hear what the 7+ games with zombies were last year. I can only seem to think of 2 or 3.

I agree. Zombies are over. Everyone is doing it. It's getting really lame and predictable.
If you're not RE, Dead Rising or L4D, please find another monster. At least these 3 innovated.
Also, no more pretty boy romanticizing of Vampires!
FIND A NEW MONSTER.

Dead Rising is about 3 years old (not including the Wii port), Siren is a year old and is a re-imagining of a 6-year old game to boot, Left 4 Dead 2 has not even been released yet, and whether or not RE5 features zombies is debatable. That leaves your list with 1 retail zombie game (which is pushing a year in age) and 3 arcade games which you must've had to dig pretty deep to find.

as long as they dont make them no more than $9 for an additional 4 hours of gameplay I'm good with that

I think it depends on how good the content is, I mean, look at Flower. It was only about 2 hours and that is my favorite game this year.

true but for what flower is that works for it....if I have a QTE based game like Heavy Rain I think 3-4 hours is a MUST....I mean Quest for Booty was like 3-4 hours.....but it was standalone so it was $15....if it add-on for a game then I think it should be cheaper than that

Well, they did say that the game isn't QTE based like a lot of people are thinking. Only the action sequences are. It will be free roaming.
But I don't think they would make DLC that is half the content of the game for 1/6 the price. I'm guessing about 1-1.5 hour DLC.

Don't count on it. Their is a heroin addict and a bunch of murdering. And by the way quantic dream was talking I don't think they want a bunch if teens playing it. They are going for an "M" rating.

Not going to happen. Even if it does get censored, like the rumor suggests it might, then we're still looking at an M rating.

The game wouldn't be Heavy Rain if they did that. It would be Light Rain. And who the hell wants to play in Light Rain?

Quality>Quantity
As we already know there are a large number of different outcomes. I believe Cage said you could play it 10 times with 10 different and unique outcomes. They used a branching system and the choices you make in the game have consequences on the playthrough. The great thing is you just continue to play even if you die at a certain part of the game.

I can't wait for this game. I just want it badly already. I know it will probably sell poorly but I suspect it will be critically acclaimed and hailed as a becnhmark for it's complex narrative contained in a video game.
Some might say it's more of an interactive movie/book than it is a game in the traditional sense. I'm OK with that stigma so long as whats there is engrossing.
I have such a good feeling about this one even though I'm sad it's been delayed until the first part of 2010. I'm more hyped for this one than I am Playstation monoliths like Uncharted 2, Ratchet And Clank A Crack In Time, Gran Turismo 5, God Of War 3 and newcomer M.A.G.
I just think it's going to have a special appeal in the same vein of Bioshock and Metal Gear Solid 4 did with me from the perspective of a thought provoking narrative. I love it when a game can actually make me feel attached to the characters and when a story is so profound it changes the way I look at the world.
Maybe I'm putting this game up to unreasonably high standards and I'm only going to be let down when it inevitably falls short of my lofty expectations. But, from everything I've seen the game will deliver on the story front.
As far as the DLC goes ... I suppose it all depends on how well the game itself is recieved. I want to play the game first and see if I'm thirsty for more before I say moAr iZ bettA ... can't wait.

Your assertion that this might sell poorly is unfortunately pretty spot on. Quantic Dream's games have always had a sort of cult following. Those that play them always love them (despite some issues with certain endings) and those that don't play them usually haven't even heard of them. I hope this gets some sort of marketing because while this may be considered an interactive movie or storybook, isn't that really what all games are. When you think about it at least. I find that everything about this game is pretty damn unique and thats really hard to come by these days.
Regardless, I'm buying it. I know that much.

Amante, I think that is the main difference between this gen and last gen. There were more games last gen so stuff like this flew under the radar. But now pretty much any exclusive is big news. I think it is gonna sell well.

There definitely hasn't been enough games with a deep story and gaming elements other than "shoot as many people as possible" lately. I'm hoping for a great game out of Heavy Rain.

i really want this game lol. its a great time to be a playstation owner with all these great games coming out! and once again people, if you havent bought it already. please get valkyria chronicles!!! the game is amazing!! you will not be dissapointed. but be warned, the game is kinda hard XD but you dont need to level grind. Heavy rain is going to be a revolutionary game though. anyone remember when that bbc guy said sony showed him somthing so amazing? it has to be this game.
