If you grew up on gaming magazines like we did, the landscape of industry journalism has probably felt a little ... weird since the closure of Electronic Gaming Monthly. According to a tweet from founder and new owner Steve Harris, the gap will be filled (in some shape or form) on December 1, when the magazine is slated to make its return.
Though we can't help but be a little nervous about the whole thing, we're excited to see what the reborn EGM will look like. Our hope? Exactly like Maxim.

I'm probably guessing not.
The new EGM won't see any revenues from the older subscriptions, more than likely, so it would be unprofitable for the new owner to do that.
That being said, I'm just assuming. I don't know all of the business details of Harris's purchase.

I find that the worst part about the whole mess is the fact that I ordered my EGM subscription from a school fundraiser. Two months later, EGM is caput and they send me Maxim.
I got a letter from the fundraising company saying how mad they were at Ziff Davis for sending out copies of an adult-oriented magazine to kids who ordered a videogame mag.

Yeah, clearly no one thought that out when the decided to replace EGM subs with Maxim. You can see how stereotyped us gamers really are now. To the rest of the world, we're all just lonely guys without girls who sit in our rooms and masturbate Covergirl ads. It's bullshit.

I don't see bias in GI. They rate a lot of games in the toilet' I don't find them any more bias than any other multi platform magazine current or passed. NP also rates quite a few games really low. Sure, the editors love the Nintendo consoles; that's a given. When when it comes to reviewing and such for games, they don't seem to have bias. They rated the new Professor Layton game lower than a lot of other magazines/sites.

I hope to god, yes. The last staff was terrible. Hopefully Steve Harris tries to get some old school staff back and stays away from the last staff.
I know someone who had an interview with Harris for another site, and has a lot of answers to questions, but cannot divulge any of them right now...the bastard :)

Near the end it was 22% ads, which is way too low. For a magazine to be healthy in North America, it needs an almost 50/50 ratio of ads to content. Unless you want to pay $9 er issue or $40/year for a subscription, have less ads than it did near the end is a bad idea.
And when there are more ads in a magazine, there are more pages for content (more actually space, and more money for the content). I'd rather get a 400-page December issue that is half ads than a 90-page December issue that is 22% ads. 200 pages of content to read versus 79 pages. What do you think is better?

If there is some type of web integration with it it might last a good year before the net losses start to come in
