Sony publishing DiRT 2 for PSP, PS3 in PAL regions
Sony continues its third-party publishing strategy in PAL territories today by taking up Codemasters' DiRT 2. Unlike the Ghostbusters venture, however, this is not a timed exclusive for PlayStation platforms. MCV reports that Sony will publish the PSP and PS3 versions of the game, while Codemasters handles publishing duties on all other platforms.
Codemasters' senior VP of publishing for EPAC, Axel Herr, is glad to have Sony take over, citing the series' "great affinity with the PlayStation brand in PAL territories for over 10 years" as one of the key factors behind the decision. We're sure all of the buzz around the PS3 Slim didn't hurt either.

Can't wait for this one either. Mmm....sweet Rally racing action.
whylekat @ Aug 27th 2009 4:11PM
Eh, I thought the 1st one was rather boring.. Or maybe just too quiet.. I dunno, something about it had me rather watching download progress over a 28.8k modem. Ha!
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 27th 2009 4:14PM
whylekat - Do you just look for comments so that you can immediately disagree with me? I like you, you're not a troll and you don't spout b.s. But we're clearly not on the same page when it comes to what games are good, so why don't we just leave it at that. K?
Neuromancer @ Aug 27th 2009 4:16PM
Please excuse whylekat's inane comments. He's an idiot.
Jesse @ Aug 28th 2009 7:07AM
Admit it whylekat, you've never played the first one have you. Making a comment like that is akin to saying "there weren't enough cut scenes in MGS4". Welcome to my retard list.

Very strange...I'm definitely picking it up, this just makes me feel even better about it =P
why not the LS2LS7? @ Aug 27th 2009 4:11PM
Codemasters has been going through a difficult transition, publishing is very expensive nowadays. I hope they stick around.

I'm curious as to how much they make from publishing a game....
Neuromancer @ Aug 27th 2009 4:17PM
A lot... If it sells well... ??!!
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Aug 27th 2009 4:18PM
The thing about publishing is they're now in charge of marketing and advertising and getting the game out there and really deciding what happens with the game after it's pressed. So for Codemasters, I think Sony taking this by the horns is a good thing. Hopefully Sony sees the potential in this franchise and gives it the push it deserves.

I am actually looking to play this game on PC. Its probably the first game to incorporate & use Dx11 & I really want to see how that looks.
Special Agent Steve @ Aug 27th 2009 4:26PM
Probably not much better than DX10. It takes a while to fully use the features of the new DX.
Anyway, it could be the most advance PC game on the market for a while.
Nerdy Desi @ Aug 27th 2009 4:41PM
Yeah, I'm really curious how the DX11 version will look compared to the console DX9 versions.
Jose @ Aug 27th 2009 4:25PM
I hear Dirt is pretty popular in Europe, kudos to Sony for snagging the publishing rights to such a solidly performing title. It's like getting publishing rights to Monster Hunter in Japan.
THE-BIG-DON @ Aug 27th 2009 4:32PM
cant wait for this game, day 1 purchase for me loved the 1st game and the demo!
Evildude @ Aug 27th 2009 4:39PM
of course, like F1 games they aren't that popular here in the states....ppl just pay more attention to "boring" games like FF
I have already played the demo and it's really good both graphic and game play wise... really looking forward to it
ANTCEP @ Aug 27th 2009 4:40PM
What does this mean for the xbox version.
Neuromancer @ Aug 27th 2009 5:11PM
Nothing
TreyIM @ Aug 27th 2009 4:53PM
I have to agree with some that the first one was boring. I only played the demo, though, and I have the DIRT 2 demo, as well. Got it off the EU PSN store last week. Prettty much the same, to me, but the graphics are pretty good. I just wish they would have had the crowds along the road react to cars going out of control, HEADED TOWARD THEM!! LOL. They just stand there clapping and cheering. They needs some of that Euphoria Engine GTA IV style going on in that game. It would make it more interesting.
cubert @ Aug 27th 2009 5:04PM
They had reactions from crowds in GRID. When you bumped the car in the wall they screamed.
No movement reactions though. Don't know why they didn't keep the screaming in DIRT 2.
Kleptomaniac @ Aug 27th 2009 5:06PM
Em Europhia engine? Sorry man maybe I'm wrong but I don't think that wil solve the problem you have with the game. It would have to be programmed into crowd A.I instead.
Neuromancer @ Aug 27th 2009 5:11PM
Because crowd animation makes or breaks a racing game?!
TreyIM @ Aug 27th 2009 9:01PM
It's called sarcasm, silly people. Lighten up, klepto and neuro, for real
Spartan [Planeteer l Power of bad weather] @ Aug 27th 2009 5:28PM
Evo > Scooby
Livi70590 @ Aug 27th 2009 5:31PM
Shame the game's pants then eh?
Earandir @ Aug 27th 2009 6:03PM
i played the very first colin mcrae game on an emulator on my pc.... after that never got the chance to play it again, until Dirt and i loved it. And i will get Dirt2 for sure, it looks great and it has improved a lot since Dirt.
Been playing the demo since it came out...
dice (psn: dicea55) @ Aug 27th 2009 6:16PM
Im really looking foreward to this game, i'm really interested to see how it all turns out. Besides it should hold over my Rally fix until GT5
Lurkero @ Aug 27th 2009 6:22PM
I can understand Sony doing Ghostbusters, but there doesn't seem to be a reason for them to take this. Don't thy have Motorstorm?
whookid @ Aug 27th 2009 7:32PM
I guess codemasters is either coming up short on money or maybe Sony wanted to do a PS3 bundle with Dirt included. Not too far fetched an idea is it?
Jesse @ Aug 28th 2009 7:09AM
You would think they would bundle a first party title that showcased the system. Perhaps they just wanted to publish it to ensure it actually came out globally. As a PAL region consumer I'm sure glad it is.
Adam @ Aug 28th 2009 3:21PM
I shoulda bought those Dirt 2 Ken Block DCs today :/
