Now that the prices have been slashed on the Xbox 360 Elite, it would seem that the "Super Elite" is rising to take its pricey place. After yesterday's reveal of the 250GB beast on Amazon Germany, XboxGaming.co.za is reporting that the "Super Elite" console (with two wireless controllers and a copy of Forza 3) has been confirmed by local distributors as coming to South Africa, this October, for R4,999 ($644). XG's report also included an ad from local retailer BT Games, which touts a standard Super Elite bundle for R4699.
The recently ordained South African distributor, Comztek, noted that HD cables would not be included in the box. Presumably, they're being saved for the Super Duper Elite.

really, who needs that much? even if you install every single game you buy, that's about 40 games if you assume about 6GB per game. I get along just fine with my old 20GB drive; i just don't install games.

Yeah i agree i've got an elite and about 20 or so games i've got about 3 installed to hardrive and i've still got 90gig left - btw when i started my elite 15gig was already gone for the actual thing... so it was more like a 105gig elite >.>

Like I said in the other thread, I don't understand why this is a good deal OR a good business move. When the main complaint about the PS3 was that it was too expensive, why would MS go out of their way to create a bundle to take it's place as the most expensive console?

Indeed. It's turning into a real Holiday Season pissing match between Sony and Microsoft. I used to defend the 360 to the death, but after replacing my fourth one, I'd settle for a 20GB system that is three times the original's size, just to properly deal with the heat.

K, joystiq's comment system sucks and I can't seem to post my reply. But anyway, if you want a bigger case for your 360, Lian Li sell one, the PC-XB01. You have to be comfortable with opening up your 360 and moving its guts into that tower, and the usual warnings apply (may void your warranty, etc.) but if you want a more spacious 360 case with better airflow, it's probably your best bet. I was going to post a link, but that might be what's fucking up Joystiq's shit.

Thanks for the info, Ravnos! I'll check it out. I have no problem moving the guts around, and it's my replacement box from MS so it's out of warranty anyway.

why was i down-ranked? i'm seriously asking, how would people manage to fill a hard drive of that size? has anyone here actually managed to fill a 120GB with stuff they actually use (not just dozens of old demos)?

I've filled mine up. It's filled with:
- the OS
- over 50 gigs of game saves, DLC and XBLA (2.2 GB of Fallout3 stuff for example)
- a ton of music (unknown size - why don't they list the size?)
- 1 gig of demos
- 10 gigs of videos (which i suppose i could delete, but i don't want to)
I'd like to do Games on Demand for heavily played multiplayer (halo3, CoD, etc) and party games (rockband, trivia crap, etc). Even if I were to put up with the price, I have no space -- well that and most of the games I want to download ain't up there yet...a 250 HDD is welcome to me. Don't want it? Don't buy it.

well i'm not going to buy it. but i'm not complaining about it's (possible) existence, and i don't care if people want to pay for it. i was asking a serious question about how people manage to fill that big of a drive (since i can't come close), and people just got all pissy. it's not like i was rude. whatever, fuck all of you. except ChomskyKnows, since he answered my question.

let me get this straight: they come out with a sweet bundle that features two controllers, a 250 gb HDD, and forza 3, and THAT makes you hate microsoft?
don't get me wrong, i hate microsoft too, but this is the ONLY thing they've done right in the past 6 months.

I already have a 40GB. But I really think from now on, when a game comes out on both systems, I'm going to get it for my PS3.

While I dislike their styles, their strategy is in no way new. Most of its been around since launch. The only thing I can think of in your situation (since you sound like its Microsoft's recent behavior) is the avatar marketplace that would send you to tipping point.

David, you must've have started gaming when Gamecube first came out, so I'll give you the benefit here.
1st. No one needs 250GB of HD space. That's rediculous.
2nd. At that price, HD Consoles should come with HD Cables.
3rd. I've always believed that consoles should ship with 2 controllers and a game.
4th. They should atleast ship with 1 controller and a game.
5th. Nintendo did that correctly with the Wii.
6th. They should not be charging EXTRA money for it.
7th. Break down the price. $300 elite, plus $60 game, plus $50 controller. Comes out to $410. You mean to tell me that they're charging $234 for the extra 130 Gigs? That's ridiculous.
You tell me where that's RIGHT.

for being a condescending asshole, you seem to know nothing whatsoever about how exchange rates work. something that translates into $699 dollars in south africa does not mean that it would cost $699 dollars here. you have to take into account the weakness of their currency compared to the dollar, and additional things such as cost of shipping to a foreign country, licensing and red tape accommodations, etc. i have friends in spain, sweden, and in south africa, and it's very common for them to pay anywhere from 10 to 40% more for U.S. made products. if that package came to the states it would cost $350-$400.
and your logic is absolutely retarded. you say that you believe that consoles SHOULD come with two games and a control, and when you find a package that actually does that, you do nothing but complain about how you don't agree with their business model.
i hate microsoft with a passion, but you fail to make any sense whatsoever here.

What the hell? You can never have too much hard drive space! Some people like to use their 360s as a HTPC (minus the video recording), and 250GB would work nicely for that. You could rip ~622 lossless audio CDs onto a 250GB drive and stream Netflix and call it good. I have about 25-30 games for my xbox, and stream my audio and movies from my computer, if each game is 5GB I'd need 150GB to install all of them in a worst case scenario. I'd much rather be able to install all my games and not use my DVD drive as much than try to stuff everything that I think I'm going to use onto a 60GB/120GB drive... This isn't counting marketplace or arcade stuff either, and it all adds up pretty quickly.

Umm I'd imagine this console is targeted at gamers who like the digital game distribution Microsoft is using now. With the expanding size of Arcade games and the ability to download full Xbox 360 games to your 360 from the marketplace as well as install your own copies to the hard drive that space is eaten up quick. My 120gb drive on my Elite is nearly full and I constantly have to pick and choose what stays. I also have 47 360 games (all of which are fanfuckingtastic) not including all my arcade games. Downloadable content and maps eat up a lot of space as well. I'm sorry but clearly neither the Elite or this new "Super Elite" are targeted at you so why the hell do you even care? I also have an old 80gb PS3 but only about 8 games for it, I haven’t come close to maxing out the PS3 drive because the majority of the reason you use up its space is for multimedia and frankly I have a computer with HDMI out and use it to play my movies on my new Bravia.

Silicon - I own the Elite. If only because it was the more stable system when I bought it and it wasn't RROD'ing on me left and right like my Pro was. Fortunately my Pro hasn't acted up on me in last year.
As for it not being marketed to me, it may be best to check your facts. I own 35+ 360 games, and have about 100 game saves on my 120GB HDD. Not to mention countless items of DLC, Arcade Games, Themes, Music and Videos. I've only used 50gb. Heck I've even installed a few of my games here and there. I also stream Netflix, Music and Movies to my 360 that's hooked up on my 50" in my living room. That one only has a 20GB HD.
I seriously think 250GB is overkill. When you can stream music, why waste the space by putting ALL your music on your 360 as opposed to just your favorite tracks (that's what I did.)?
And while I loved Forza II and will be buying Forza 3, is it really the game to package in with this system? Well, I guess when you already did a Halo bundle and Forza is the only other 1st party game coming out this year, your choices are limited.

Throw in HDMI and Wifi and we'd start caring. You can't use the ole "average gamers don't have HDtvs" argument when you offer an uber-premium package aimed squarely at the hardcore market.

If you're hardcore wouldn't you prefer to have a better HDMI cable than the one that came with the elite anyway?
