I thought guiness was usually pretty thorough in its research before making claims like this...

It seems a bit early to bestow this honor. From my count there are only 29 reviews posted on metacritic, which in most cases is less than half as many as are generally compiled

Yeah, it's as transparent as it gets.

"Congratulations [insert highly popular product name here], you have won the Guiness award for [insert random award name here"].

This is just blatant coat-tails riding. It's like how outfits like Greenpeace bang on about a company like Apple (instead of say, some cheap Taiwanese electronics manufacturer) simply because they know that by attaching themselves to something popular, they'll get free promotional coverage for themselves.

Joystiq shouldn't really be posting this stuff. It's not like there's a shortage of Arkham Asylum promotional materials after all...

Is it though? I haven't seen the review scores (I know they're mostly 90/95s), but inFamous pulled some pretty high numbers.

Batmans "super power" is his mind. Really though, he's a detective with badass gadgets.

Pardon my french, but hell, he might not have any real superpowers, but damn it, has anyone read "Return of the dark knight"? When you think about that shit he pulled at the end I think he qualifies as a superhero!

Aditionaly think about this: He has Bat-Anti-Shark-Spray!
He has freaking BAT-ANTI-FROST-UNDERWARE!

Plus, despite the fact the original Batman Series exists (with Adam West) he is still loved and taken serious. NOW THAT AIN“T SUPERPOWERS?

The character/person known as Bruce Wayne falls through a imensional warp and ends up in the very city Gotham was modeled after, Chicago, and creates the Batman personal there and cleans up the city.

What the fuck? Most critically acclaimed means best reviewed. If it's the best reviewed superhero game, then the award is valid and not a marketing blurb. Furthermore, who cares if a couple of people don't think Batman fits the strict, literal definition of a superhero. His comic falls under the Superhero genre, therefore he is a superhero. That's all there is to it.

i only bought this cuz it was half price and was considered "the first decent batman game ever made". i waited for that moment since i was a kid; now it's here and i've partially outgrown some childhood-things. or they call that depression? some shit like that.

game might be good but batman is a hero. if he's a superhero then anyone on earth with the necessary amount of money and intelligence can become one and guess what superheroes doesn't exist

Batman is a superhero because his super power is not wealth, which would be too much of a stretch, but his super snarky attitude. You mere hero could possibly have such an attitude.

Batman's Battitude for the win.

On the topic of the actual record, and maybe this is my last Thursdayism and lack of memory kicking in, I don't recall a single game that has had so much coverage as this. Not even nearing release dates or special events.

Since when was Batman's superheroness in question? I've always thought of him as one. What makes you think you need to have some sort of special power to be a supehero? :| A battle suit and high tech gadgets seem super to me.

Where is the link to the proof on this? I tried to find this on Guinness' website and there was nothing. I think this was just a story that Kotaku made up.

One doesn't need superpowers to be a superhero. A hero knocks an old lady from in front of a bus. A guy that repeatedly takes down the worst criminal in the city is a superhero. But I also agree that it's a marketing ploy. Brutal Legend will just as easily be the most critically acclaimed video game about metal music starring jack black that was released on a tuesday.
