A recent interview from German gaming blog Gamona with CCP Games CEO Hilmar Pétursson is likely going to turn a few heads in the MMO gaming realm -- it reveals a few savory details about the recently revealed spin-off of EVE Online, titled DUST 514. It sounds like they're trying something groundbreaking with this new title -- it'll be a console MMOFPS with real-time strategy elements, in which mercenary players take job contracts from EVE Online players.
Considering the constant power struggle between EVE's player alliances (that's space-talk for "guilds"), there'll be no shortage of odd jobs available for DUST 514's hired guns. For more information on how these two games will interact, you can check out the full video interview after the jump.

I really like the sound of this, especially the persistant FPS elements.

Sounds great, but looks like a total Jack from Halo on the graphics. I cant say much about that, Halo is a made game and they probly want to feed off that its crowd. However, Eve has always been at least to me a totally New form of Game. Almost taking real-life and making it surreal. I got my start in FPS games online and have never really liked playing MMORPG's until Eve came about. I just hope they make this available for Pc as well. And personally I would preder a Call of Duty MW Kind of jack. There game play is far better, allowing more realistic combat between players. All eve would have to do is make it futuristic, and well that other stuff they were doing with the hole connection to EVE bit. Still waiting to be able to walk around in stations by the way?? When is that going to come about??

I think the crossover elements sound really cool, like how the control of ground territories by groups of players carries over to EVE Online, etc. But I'm a little bummed out about the console exclusivity for Dust 514.

I love hearing about Eve Online and all the craziness going on with that game, I'm sure this will be no different.

I have a lot of friends that Play EVE, but i never played because it just wasn't my preferred play style. But it would be quite intrigued to see the implications of the game if EVE and Dust 514 can interact.

I always thought EVE players were the ones who's attitude towards the game was "If it's in the game, adapt or die."
I can't imagine someone who spent months to destroy another person's in-game bank account would cry too hard about something like this.

I considered it to be a problem with them due to the fact that this brings an aspect of gameplay out of control: control of systems.
My hopes for this game is that the planet battling thing takes place as part of factional warfare, not losec/alliance warfare.

Joystiq did not post all the information... Dust 514 will be part of a new revamped system for sov where multiple factors affect it such as Dust battles, POSs, and some kind of complex thingy.

Wow, that sounds pretty cool. It could be cool to have to revisit a place that you've fought in before that had subsequently changed hands, if you have memories of how epic the battle was the first time. I'm really curious to see how exactly they organize battles, because real people aren't available all the time to work their character, so it'd be hard to have a standing defense force.

Technically both. You form a corporation with several people, and those corporations form alliances with several corporations.
