Eurogamer reports that Fable II: Game of the Year Edition has been confirmed by Microsoft. Furthermore, the site notes that the title will release in Europe on September 18 for €64.99/£39.99. Doing a little digging of our own, we uncovered the box art for the game (pictured above), which gives us some idea of what to expect in the package. According to the box, purchasers will receive: "More Quests! More Locations! More Choices!"
If previous retail listings for the title are to be believed, all that "more" will be comprised of both the Knothole Island and See the Future DLC packs. So far, the Game of the Year Edition has only been confirmed for Europe, but we've contacted Microsoft for confirmation and details regarding a North American release.

Didn't X-Play make Fable 2 the game of the year?

Fable 2 seemed to win most GOTY award from the European publications.
Certainly not a perfect game, but I love how it was willing to be creative and step outside of videogame cliches.
The final boss battle: I gripped my controller tight, set up my spells, drilled myself on the combat combo controls, and then: "Oh, I'm sorry, did YOU want to do that?" I nearly lost it.
Later, the final quest. Seeking the artifact of unimaginable power. And the, my Raiders Of The Lost Ark fantasy suddenly turns into The Crying Game. And I chose yes. You bet I chose yes. After that, I never played the game again, because it wasn't going to get any better than that. She lived happily ever after.

Personally, I thought the ending was great. Rather than doing your typical 'here you go, a huge boss!' route they decided to go more of a moral/big decision route and left the gameworld open for you following that decision to continue on to treat in the manner you choose.
One of my favorite games of all time to be sure. I loaned it to my buddy who has only been interested in Madden/NBA games for ages and he tore through Fable II like nobody's business.

haha, there are so many "game of year"s. i think it'd be great if infinity ward just cut through the crap and made the initial release of modern warfare 2 a "game of the year" edition.

I would buy it if it came with codes for the new map packs at a 50% discount. I mean ill buy the maps anyway so they should give us a discount for basically preordering the maps.

Alex: sad but so true. Altho they have never let me down yet. Once they do, I will be skeptical but until that day, I see no reason to. They have an impressive track record

I'm still surprised the game was a hit. I mean it wasn't a bad game, it just was a little too easy and linear for my liking. I don't think the GotY edition would change any of that.

From listening to the news and reading a few articles, it sounds like the brits are the worst off. I think we(us) are just winding down the recession. our credit card dept is starting to settle and the unemployment numbers are stabilizing. its by no means a good situation but its not as bad as it is over there. I read that their dept(per person) keeps going up.

How do you all think these GOTY titles will affect buyer's purchasing decisions? Are they a good thing for the industry? Are they a good thing for gamers?
Seems the early adopters (by a year I guess) are being punished. If waiting a year nabs the full game plus all DLC for $40-$50, I may just start waiting until the GOTY editions ship. I never get to half of the new games I buy within a year anyway.

In your case I would recommend renting the game until you beat it (or get bored with it), waiting about 1-2 years, and picking it up for half price or less (or, in this case, with DLC bundled). Best way to game and collect on a budget if that's your concern.
That being said, I early adopt about 4-5 games a year (things I can't wait for like the upcoming MW2).

But in the same sense you can wait a year and buy the used version plus DLC for around 35-40...

That's why I waited a year plus for the Fallout GOTY to be announced, they did the same thing with Oblivion. I knew my patience would pay off.

I think you're onto it Professor Lario.
And while we're at it, consoles need to stop dropping their prices, because who is going to buy a PS4 at $600 when they know it will be $300 in 2 to 3 years?
And they need to stop dropping prices on games too. Soon, literally zero games will ever sell at the $60 price-tag because they're usually available for half that within a few months. This is why capitalism never worked.

Fable 2 had a very similar box, and that was released BEFORE Resistance 2.
And incase there's any further doubt, the original Fable also had this style of box.

I bought it, beat it in a couple days and returned it. It really wasn't that great. Combat was fun, but the story and character models were pretty terrible. The ending made me not even want to play it again. I might pick it up after this comes out and drops in price. I bet I have a ton of in game money from all that waiting...

Was 2008 a slow year for gaming or something? While I enjoy the Fable franchise, I don't recall it getting any noteworthy GoTY awards. I believe that honor went to Fallout 3, across the board.

I just started replaying this actually! I played it like crazy the first week it came out then Fallout dropped and I never went back. Well actually I went back once but the controls felt wacky so I turned it off.
First act as an evil (adult) ho: I murdered that irritating bard who harasses you when you arrive in Bowerstone. Then I got a makeover. Hot!
