Halo 3: ODST on sale early in France, MS responds

According to CVG, a handful of lucky gamers in France got their hands on a copy of Halo 3: ODST nearly a month in advance of it's September release date. It seems that some copies of the game were delivered early, and Microsoft states it is "investigating a very small breach in [its] distribution process." Furthermore, the company is looking at Live accounts with Halo 3: ODST activity and is planning to "take action against those we believe have procured copies of the game illegitimately."

Thankfully, those that were lucky enough to legally buy a copy of the game are in no danger. A Twitter update from Xbox Live's Stephen Toulouse notes that Microsoft "will not be banning legitimate customers from Xbox LIVE who play early."

How will the tell if someone purchased it legitimately, or stole it from the back room of where they work? Sounds like either an empty threat, or an empty promise.

I think they're talking about people who may download a ripped image of the game.

I believe that they aren't referring to purchasing a real copy versus stealing a real copy.

They are likely talking about playing downloaded copies.

Maybe its just the article, but it sounded to me like they want to take action against anybody who bought it early.

wow a full month...if MS was smart they would release it next week...it WILL be on the torrents TODAY...

They won't lose any money by keeping the original release date.
Anyone with the capability to play burnt games likely wouldn't be paying for it anyway.

i watched the trailer again recently and i think one of the troops is female. it could just be in DOA flash back though

on of the troops is voiced by the blond from battlestar gallactica so im guessing she just might be female...

ahh okay. i haven't been paying attention to any details because i wanted to finish halo 2 first before i moved on. stupid corrupted save file. i just got a glimpse and didn't notice anyone say anything.

if you're dumb enough to sign on while playing this game knowing damn well you shouldn't, you deserve to be banned.

Even if you are signed off when you play the game, when you sign on to xbox live the records will be tranferred. you are prolly smarter making a new silver account to play if you have the game.

Because it's totally the customers' fault that they received the game early in the mail. Totally. And they shall be punished!

lol i'm sorry if i confused you sir. And to be honest I rather buy my games, maybe if i was jobless and broke but i prefer to support the industry. where i'm from they only buy 360s to mod them, because no one will even consider the thought of paying for LIVE.

By the time you imported the copy, it would be mid-September. Wait 2 weeks and don't spend 100 euros on a game.

How will they know know got the game legally or not?

Hardware detection.

Assuming the rip is done properly with correct DMI, PFI, and SS and people playing it used updated firmware, they can't.

halo 3 matchmaking is all on a separate disk, and firefight is on the odst disk i believe. either way, nothing was taken out.

There may be some people who legitimately got the game sent to them early. Should they be punished for signing in to play it? The illegal copies is one thing, but that is another category

Firefight doesn't have matchmaking.

If anyone knows of a site that reviewed this, please share. I want to pre-order, but only if the single player campaign is good (already have Halo 3, so no point in multiplayer for me).

so uh what does the 360 do besides play games???

It plays Dvds, and streams music and videos from your computer, it's also a pretty good VOIP serves if you have a lot of friends that play often. Oh and it also plays games ;P

It only does everything. Oh wait, wrong console.
