"We like hip hop, we even like some rap -- with that in mind, we're left wondering what Def Jam and 4mm are thinking by showing off Young Jeezy and T.I. instead of Notorious B.I.G.'s 'Hypnotize' or even Pete Rock & CL Smooth's "T.R.O.Y." (both of which were playable at E3), two songs that actually highlight major rap stars. "

PLEASE tell me you guys are being facetious on this one. Have you even listened to rap in the past 5 years? Those two artists are the two biggest names in mainstream hip hop since like '03 even. The South has been THE go to place for any relevent rap artist inthe game today since like 2000.

Notorious B.I.G.?? Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth??? LOL Last I checked this wasn't DefJam Rapstar Early 90's Throwback Edition.

Hell, what am I even ranting for, half the people that visit this site never even heard of Young Jeezy or T.I. before this article posted.

Cody, I'm a hip hop artist and even I wouldn't give this game the time of day. And yes I appreciate real hip hop. But face it... most of what is on the radio today is straight garbage.....It's not based on talent it's based on who can sound the most like everyone else. Otherwise there would be better music being played on your music channels and your radio.s..and not some B.S. like "kiss me thru the phone".....or or... well just turn on the radio and see for yourself.

Cody, Cody, Cody... Young Jeezy and T.I. are not /RAP/ artists, they are Hip-Hop entertainers. Rap and Hip-Hop are not mutually synonymous. I haven't heard anybody saying anything "relevent" in the /hip-hop/ "game" since its inception. When you get guys that can rhyme and say something besides (and I'm paraphrasing here) "I like women who are an easy lay," "I like money and have a lot of it and will make more in the future," "I have a fleet of really nice cars," "oh, and by the way, I'll shoot you because I'm just that 'gangster'."

De La Sol, Jurassic 5, cunninglynguists, Cee-lo, et cetera...

Young Jeezy?? T.I.??? LOL Last I checked this wasn't DefJam Hip-Hop I'll Be Broke In An Hour Edition.

No. Because DefJam Rapstar Early 90's Throwback Edition actually sounds like something that I would buy.

Sidenote: Young Jeezy should be embarrassed that people can actually read his lyrics now. "Outside tartar sauce/pocket full of celery" To call you retarded would be an insult to kids wearing helmets and banging their heads against trees in parks all over the world.

deaftly you fail. I run and manage my own recording and production studio, Pro Tools certified, and yes hip hop/r&b is the majority of my clientel with outsourced audio work for my brother's development studio.

And to the other poster, no, I'm not saying anything in relation to the game being good. I probably wont even play it.

But embassy said it best on page 2: I know it's the cool thing to do to hate any rap newer than 1995, especially from the South.

The full line is actually "Inside fishsticks, outside tartar sauce" referring to the colors of the interior and exterior of his car. It's actually quite catchy and note worthy line in comparison to the overused "inside peanutbutter, outside jelly" line.

And who are you fooling? Put ANY rappers words down on paper and you can make them sound like a joke. It's HOW the artists vocally puts it into a recording that is half the battle won, and Jeezy is one of the best in that regard.

Jeezy is funny... something missing from a lot of rap/hip-hop. And TI is a pretty damn good lyricist. A lot of the artists you guys call "real" hip-hop agree with that too.

Not true, Par instance ...Sorry Ms. Jackson-Andre 3k verse.

Ten times out of nine, now if I'm blind fine
The quickest muzzle throw it on my mouth and I'll decline
King meets queen, then the puppy love thing, together dream
Bout that crib with the goodyear swing
On the oak tree, I hope we feel like this forever
Forever, forever, ever, forever, ever?
Forever never seems that long until you're grown
And notice that the day by day rule can't be too long
Ms. Jackson my intentions were good I wish I could
Become a magician to abacadabra off the sadder
Thoughts of me, thoughts of she, thoughts of he
Askin what happened to the feelin that her and me
Had, I pray so much about it need some knee, pads
It happened for a reason one can't be, mad
So know just know that everything is cool
And yes I will be present on the first day of school, and graduation

Cody how is this art that Andre 3000 did in Sorry Mrs. Jackson a joke at all... That's real music and lyrics. Jeezy is good for some people but to market him to gamers is Chronicles of ridic, cuz most gamers are actually into real hip hop. and I think the blogs proove it.

So long as your exposure to the genre isn't limited to the commercial, I'm perfectly okay with that.

I fucking rage when people base their opinions of any given genre off of the kind of thing they hear on the radio or on television.

Art is subjective, but at the same time, it's annoying when people call ANY genre, not just hip-hop, 'junk' when their experience with said genre is limited

Exactly.

Regardless of what the internet may think of Young Jeezy, T.I. is a respected, talented and viable hiphop/pop star.

But back on topic. I don't really see the point of this game, especially when you have a property like DJ Hero coming out with which to compete.

Wow, T.I., respected? Seriously? Other than for making hits (akin to 'Nsync and Hanson -- as in, that's the only intention, to make money) T.I. is pretty awful. I know this is subjective and you're entitled to your own opinion, as incorrect as it may be (that's a joke). But for real, I like hip hop. I like rap. This is some garbage.

It took me some time to come around to T.I. but Lyrically he is better than 85% of the shit that played on the radio....now he is no Common or Ludacris but he is FAR better than a Soulja Boy, Plies, GS Boys, Ying Yang Twins, Flo-rida, Gucci Mane or any of these other suckas

@ Ben Gilbert

Come on man, T.I. is a respected rapper. He does more than just make money he helps out the community, did you watch MTV's Road To Redemption. Not alot of rappers do that so he has my respect there already. T.I.'s albums are getting better every time, Paper Trail was my favorite album last year. Like the other guy said he is far better than at least 85% of the rappers on the radio. And unlike them he has actually did the things he rapped about so he's no liar. T.I. can rap so I'll put his King cd or Trap Musik in stereo any day, cause it's the KING.

Ben,

I'm not too sure how up-to-date you are on contemporary hiphop, but TI has been putting in work since 2002 and is in no way shape or form in the same pop category as a Hanson or 'Nsync. That's almost a slap in the face to anyone who's been listening to his work since then.

And trust me, any major hiphop artsit *you* respect more than likely respects T.I.P., ranging from Nas to Jay-z and all inbetween, and especially the southern legends -- Outkast, Scarface etc.

Also this edges on another topic - What the hell is the big deal with making music for money? Is it physically impossible to love what you do and to also want to get paid for it? I didn't realize the two were mutually exclusive.

Well said, embassy. I still can't believe he tried to compare TI to Nsync, that was just wrong. I don't think he ever bought or completely listened to a TI album. I think he heard one song of the radio and said to himself he sucks.
